The rest of the week went by in a blur for Olivia as she worked tirelessly on orders for various events around town. But despite the long hours, she found herself thinking about Henry more and more, wondering what he was up to and why he kept popping up in her mind.
It wasn't until Friday evening, as she was closing up the shop, that she saw him again. He was standing outside his garden center, looking up at the sky with a pensive expression on his face.
Olivia hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to approach him or not. But something in his posture made her heart ache, and she decided to take a chance.
"Hey," she said, walking up to him. "Is everything okay?"
Henry turned to her, a hint of surprise in his eyes.
"Oh, hey. Yeah, everything's fine," he said, but his tone was distant.
"You don't seem fine," Olivia pressed, studying his face more closely.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"I've just been thinking a lot lately. About life, and whether I'm doing what I really want to be doing," he admitted.
Olivia nodded, understanding all too well. She had felt the same way many times before.
"I know what you mean. Sometimes it feels like we're just going through the motions, you know?" she said.
Henry smiled at her, a warm glint in his eyes.
"Yeah, exactly. It's like we're stuck in this routine and we forget to stop and smell the roses, so to speak," he said.
Olivia felt a jolt of recognition at the phrase. It was something her father used to say all the time when he was alive, a reminder to appreciate the small moments in life.
"I like that. 'Stop and smell the roses'," she said, smiling at him.
Henry chuckled, the sound sending shivers down Olivia's spine.
"I'm glad you like it. Maybe we should do that sometime, together," he suggested, his eyes locking onto hers.
Olivia felt her heart skip a beat. Was he asking her out? Or was it just a friendly suggestion?
"Um, sure. That sounds nice," she managed to say, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Great. How about tomorrow? We could go for a walk in the park and check out the new flower bed they just put in," he said, his smile widening.
Olivia felt a wave of excitement wash over her. She had never gone on a date with someone she considered a rival before, but there was something about Henry that made her feel alive.
"Tomorrow it is," she said, grinning back at him.
As they said their goodbyes and headed home, Olivia couldn't help but wonder what the next day would bring. Was this the beginning of something special? Or was it just a one-time thing?
Either way, she was determined to enjoy every moment of it, to stop and smell the roses with Henry by her side.
