The Midnight Intruder

994 Words
The mansion felt different after Kael’s warning. Colder. Heavier. Dangerous. Elias stood by the massive bedroom window, staring out at the city lights below. Somewhere beyond the estate walls, thousands of people were living normal lives. Meanwhile, he was trapped inside a billionaire Alpha’s mansion because of a bond that shouldn’t exist. His life had officially become ridiculous. A soft knock interrupted his thoughts. The door opened. A maid entered pushing a cart loaded with food. “Good evening, Mr. Vale.” Elias blinked. Mr. Vale? Nobody had ever called him that before. Most people simply called him Omega. The realization was strangely depressing. “Thanks,” he said. The maid smiled kindly before placing the food on the dining table. “Alpha Kael instructed us to ensure you’re comfortable.” Elias snorted. “Kidnapping someone and feeding them expensive food doesn’t make it less kidnapping.” The maid looked horrified. Then she lowered her voice. “Please don’t let Alpha hear you say that.” “Why?” “He’ll probably agree.” Elias stared. The maid quickly covered her mouth. “Oh no. I wasn’t supposed to say that.” For the first time all day, Elias laughed. A genuine laugh. The maid visibly relaxed. “I’m Maria.” “Elias.” “I know.” Of course she did. Everyone apparently knew who he was already. Maria finished arranging dinner before leaving. Once alone, Elias approached the table. His eyes widened. The food looked incredible. Steak. Fresh bread. Pasta. Several desserts. Enough food for three people. “He’s trying to fatten me up.” Despite his complaint, he sat down and began eating. Ten minutes later, he regretted every insult he had made. The food was amazing. Dangerously amazing. By the time he finished, he was completely full. A terrible situation. Because now he felt comfortable. And comfortable people made mistakes. Elias quickly reminded himself that Kael Draven was still a terrifying billionaire Alpha. That helped. A little. Hours passed. The mansion gradually grew quieter. Employees finished their duties. Lights turned off. Doors closed. Eventually, only silence remained. Elias changed into the clothes provided in the suite. Which somehow fit perfectly. That was suspicious. Very suspicious. “Did they guess my size?” The bond pulsed faintly. Almost amused. Elias groaned. “Don’t start.” The bond ignored him. Around midnight, he finally climbed into bed. Sleep came quickly. Too quickly. The moment his eyes closed, darkness claimed him. And then— A scream shattered the silence. Elias bolted upright. His heart hammered wildly. For several seconds he sat frozen. Then another scream echoed through the mansion. This one closer. Much closer. “What the hell?” He jumped out of bed. The bond exploded with alarm. Danger. The feeling hit so hard it nearly knocked the breath from his lungs. Something was wrong. Very wrong. Without thinking, Elias rushed toward the door. The moment he stepped into the hallway, chaos greeted him. Employees were running. Security guards raced past. Alarms suddenly blared throughout the mansion. Red emergency lights illuminated the corridor. “What happened?” Elias asked. No one answered. Everyone looked terrified. A guard suddenly grabbed his arm. “Get back inside!” “Why?” The guard’s face was pale. “There’s an intruder.” Elias froze. An intruder? Inside this fortress? That shouldn’t have been possible. Then the lights went out. Everything plunged into darkness. Several people screamed. The emergency alarms stopped instantly. Silence. Complete silence. A chill crawled down Elias’s spine. The bond pulsed violently. Warning. Warning. WARNING. Something was coming. Footsteps echoed from the far end of the hallway. Slow. Deliberate. Not the hurried movement of security. Not the frightened steps of staff. These footsteps belonged to someone calm. Someone confident. Someone dangerous. A shadow emerged from the darkness. Tall. Dressed entirely in black. Face hidden. The figure stopped. Then turned directly toward Elias. As if they had known exactly where to find him. The guard beside Elias swore. “Oh no.” The intruder moved. Fast. Too fast. Before anyone could react, the figure lunged forward. Straight at Elias. Instinct took over. Elias jumped backward. The attacker slammed into the wall where he had been standing moments earlier. Wood shattered. Concrete cracked. The force was terrifying. “Move!” the guard shouted. Elias didn’t need to be told twice. He ran. The hallway exploded into chaos. Employees screamed. Guards rushed forward. The intruder tore through them effortlessly. One guard was thrown into a wall. Another crashed through a table. A third never even landed a hit. Whoever this person was— They weren’t normal. The bond suddenly surged. Not fear. Rage. Pure Alpha rage. Kael. He had sensed the danger. And he was coming. The realization sent relief flooding through Elias. A strange relief. One he didn’t want to examine too closely. The intruder noticed it too. Their head tilted slightly. Then a distorted voice echoed through the hallway. “So it’s true.” Elias froze. The voice sounded mechanical. Artificial. “Interesting.” The figure took another step forward. “Now I understand why they want you.” They? Who were they? Before Elias could ask— The wall beside him exploded. A powerful scent flooded the corridor. Dominant. Wild. Terrifying. Every person present instantly felt it. Alpha. Not just any Alpha. Kael Draven. The billionaire Alpha stepped through the destroyed wall with murder in his silver eyes. For the first time since meeting him, Elias saw Kael completely abandon his calm facade. And it was horrifying. The temperature seemed to drop. The air itself felt heavier. Even the intruder hesitated. Kael’s gaze locked onto the attacker. Then his voice filled the corridor. Cold. Deadly. Unforgiving. “You touched what’s mine.” The entire mansion fell silent. Even Elias forgot how to breathe. Because the way Kael said it… Sounded less like a warning. And more like a death sentence. To Be Continued
