Chapter 27 Doyle Doyle tapped his phone’s screen, cutting off the call just as it went to voicemail. That made five times he’d tried to call Kord. The big lug was either ignoring him or was hunting down leads and couldn’t answer. It had better be the latter, Doyle thought. Kord’s secretive ways might be a holdover from his undercover days but it was an annoying trait to cope with, especially when they were supposed to be in a relationship. Now that he was on his way to meet Vic, Doyle would have appreciated having Kord as back-up. He hadn’t yet seen Vic and facing the unknown always presented multiple dangers. Though when he was a cop, he’d been face to face with countless street thugs and could handle himself, no cop could predict what might happen and backup was always a good thing. D
