Doyle walked out of the pizzeria’s back room, feeling like he hadn’t gotten anything much. Junior returned his gun but had emptied it of bullets. Vic had claimed he wasn’t about to harm Gary until he paid his debt. But Doyle—rubbing his neck to soothe the lingering soreness—didn’t fully buy that line. Anything could have happened. Maybe Vic did try to collect. Maybe he and Junior lost control when they tried. Doyle would find out eventually. Until Gary was found alive, Vic and Junior would stay on the suspect list.
