Chapter 3

The fragrance of Irfe Smoldering Pepper Eau De perfume lingered in the air as I walked into the four walls of the mansion. It had been given years, but the place still looked clean and beautiful as usual, the gold interiors glowing beneath the fluorescent illumination. "Yes, get 54 pieces of Top Notch Fabrics to the fabric, we have to create something Unique for the Bella's engagement ceremony. They want it to be grand and I don't want anything disrupting it. " Mom's voice echoed in the bedroom. I stood by the door, hesitating if I should knock or just head straight to my room like I didn't exist. It had always worked whenever they were angry at me. "Katherine?" Mom's voice crawled into my ears as the door opened. I leaned in almost immediately, my hands sprawled as I wrapped her in a hug. She whimpered as her hands curled behind my back. "I've missed you, Mom." "No, you didn't. You chose to run off with your boyfriend or whoever was that delivery guy that delivered those awful heels to you. You should be ashamed of yourself." She said with a plain face. Somehow those words made me feel light. The weight on my shoulders suddenly felt lighter, and my ego, which had been killed off, had begun to resurrect. "I'm back for good now; I'm not going anywhere. I promise." She gazed into my eyes before grabbing her coat from the bed. "Your father hasn't returned from work yet; it seems he's planning on getting a next of kin before he passes on to the new world, not like it's anytime soon. He just likes to stress himself on things that aren't worth it." With a sigh, she put on her coat, heading for the living room. "I have to get to the factory right now to prepare the materials needed for Miss Bella's daughter's engagement ceremony. When I get back, we'll have this mother-daughter talk." She let out before her voice faded. Nothing had changed. The bed rocked back as I landed on it, my legs vibrating beneath as I strutted. I hadn't gotten that proper welcome that I wished would happen, but I knew that things hadn't changed a bit ever since I left. They were still too busy for their child, working day in and out like they had not a cent to their name, and they wanted more. Being the only daughter of my parents, I should be cared for, given their undivided attention and love like any other, but mine was the opposite. I never had their attention, and they only showed me love through the maids assigned to watch over me while they traveled round the world, building the company's heritage. "Why need love when you can have all the money you can wish to spend?" Mom recited in my ears day in and out while I was younger, but it didn't quite stick with me. I thought it was her excuse for not being there for me, but it seems it was her major priority at this point. …A week passed, and I hadn't walked out of the room. The maids had always walked in to serve the meal, but I didn't bother eating; it was useless. What was my purpose without him? I gazed at the ceiling, the white-colored plaster of Paris sending thrills down my spine. The only message I could harness from it was that I was plain, unable to attract men who really cared about me. My looks were a one in a million, but I didn't think Lisa had grown to such an extent. She always looked up to me while I pretended not to have any form of money. Though she had settled a few bills, that didn't mean she had more money than me. What exactly is love in a relationship? Is it the money, the stars, or is it an emotion? "Hey, little Katherine." "Uncle Clam!" I jumped out of bed and onto his arms; he staggered back, but he managed to balance me in his arms, not falling despite my weight. "Why are you in your room? Were you crying?" I nodded in the affirmative, putting on my puppy eyes as I tried to confirm. "I'm not alright, Uncle Clam." He sat me back on the bed, taking his seat next to meet. "What happened? Is it your parents again, or do you have another affair that's making you unable to eat?" "He ditched me, Uncle, after everything I've done for him. I sold my sports car to fund his business, the latest model at that time. He doesn't care about me anymore; he cheated on me, chased me out, and called me names just because he had another lady." Tears rolled out of my eyes. "What am I doing wrong, Uncle?". "Everything..." Everything? There was no way I would be that imperfect at the moment. I would win at one thing, that's for sure. "You did what a strong female would have done. You sacrificed your money, capital, and luxurious life just to build his company, which would someday rise like the Diablo's someday. He didn't let you complete the plan, so you have nothing to worry about. He'll come crashing before you know it." He flashed me a smile. I wasn't assured enough. "Two people are only meant for each other if they can stay throughout the storm and turmoil, survive the countless days that threaten the relationship, and be there for each other despite the situation." If at that time Mom and Dad would have been the perfect couple, but they always fought and went their separate ways, working on their eyes each. "A queen isn't a queen because she's married by a King. A Queen is a Queen because she has the ability to rule alongside the king." He paused then continued. "He didn't make you his queen, meaning you don't worth him, but it also means you're too perfect for him. Don't forget that." He placed a kiss on my forehead before heading for the door. "Oh, everyone is waiting outside to meet you, heiress."
