Chapter 5

"Katherine?" His deep voice reverberated in the night. I raised my head, curious to know who had been so clumsy to have knocked me over with his leg. The sight of his taper fade hairstyle, his handsome, charming face, and his perfect jawline gave me the chills. "Kelvin?" I staggered back upon realizing his true identity. He helped me up despite my hesitation and then stood before me, watching me dust the dirt that had crawled into my gown. "Why are you back in Miami?" I groaned. He was the last person I could think of meeting on such a delicate date. It was obvious he had plans for tonight seeing how perfectly articulated he looked. "And who is she?" A lady walked towards us. She has several Kitty Corporation jewelry pieces on her body, and the texture of her gown is unique and also Kitty. Kitty happened to be the largest clothing brand and corporation in Miami, followed by the Diablos. We were enemies due to the large-scale competition we had embarked on, and our families didn't have much of a tiebreaker, which affected us, the children. Kelvin here happens to be the son of the owner of Kitty, which also meant he was the heir and soon to be CEO. Was she his woman? "She's an old friend; you can get going." He said. Somehow a limousine had pulled up next to us, and I hadn't noticed due to how shocked I had been to see his face once again. My theory had to be correct since he had no sisters. "Later." She kissed him on the cheek before walking into the limousine and was driven off by Mr. Parker, his driver. "I thought you hated women?" I raised my eyebrows, remembering how he had discriminated against women during high school. "I still do." He held up a grin. "So you're doing blind dates now." I laughed out loud. He didn't respond, nor did he try to defend himself; it was true. "And you're still single, judging from the looks. When will you learn to hold a man right and not blow him off with your lifestyle?" I choked on my laughter, my head suddenly banging. I could tell my brain was sending waves; he had crossed the lines. "You know what, if only you hadn't been a jerk, your father wouldn't be sending his handsome son to search for a wife. Oh sorry, they had to set a blind date because you don't know how to flirt with a lady." "So you admit that I'm handsome." He held up a smile. That came out wrong. He closed the gap between us, his gaze lingering all over me. A look of disappointment crawled up on his face, then he moved back like he was suffering from ad Numea. "What?" "No one told me you wouldn't grow past the size of the hallway lockers in our middle school." He chuckled. "I actually did; you're just jealous that I'm more beautiful now than when you left." "You look like a chicken tucked into a sari, Hideous." "How dare you?" "The truth is bitter, Kitty." A smirk appeared on his lips. "It's Katherine." He had always been a jerk, a f****d-up one at that. He didn't care about women, and he didn't really smile that much, more boring than any other guy I've met. "Don't tell me you dance with poles now, a good occupation I must say." I raised my hand hoping to threaten him, but then it didn't feel right, so I did what I should have done to Derick when he brought Lisa in. He held my hand in midair, a sinister aura cloaking him all of a sudden. "You still don't know the difference between a man and a woman, do you?" His stance said it all; he was going to hit me the next minute. Suddenly we began to hear murmurs, our faces plain in an instant. We had been surrounded by the media, with several cameras directed towards us. "The CEO of Kitty is planning to hit the Diablo Heiress." The sizzling flashes that erupted from the camera made it impossible for me to overlook the situation. In haste, I jerked my hand away from his, storming away and leaving him in between the media. … I rolled over in the bed, scared to check my phone. Mom and Dad had gone wild when they heard that I had met Kelvin on my way to the dinner party; they thought he might want to run their latest Victory in my eyes, but it happened to be quite the opposite. The media didn't make it easy, with news running wild on the Internet. "The CEO of Kitty Corporation raises hands to hit the heiress of Diablo Clothing Corporation, a notorious competition." It felt icky knowing that I had dragged him into this mess. Though we had lashed out on each other and his tongue seemed to be the sharpest, his hand had only just been raised, and he had been labeled a woman beater. "That serves him right for calling me a whore." I convinced myself. Nothing was working; I still felt pretty guilty for making him the victim. Though he deserved everything that had happened, it still didn't feel right that it hadn't happened before they labeled his intention. "Can you believe it? The Kitty Corporation investors have all run to our company. They said they can't work with a company whose CEO is a woman beater. Katherine really did a good job out there." Dad's voice echoed in the passage. Never was it my intention to get such a thing by impure means. I wanted to work hard as the heiress and watch the Diablo's Fashion corporation rise to the top before I crushed Derick into smithereens. My phone began to buzz, the vibrations pushing my concentration towards it. With a heave, I grabbed it, putting on the receiver. "Hello." "Hey, it's Kelvin." I checked the screen, and the contact hadn't been stored. How had he gotten mine if that was the case? "Meet me at the Glass House at 12PM; we need to talk."
