PICK IT TWICE AND BE CAREFUL Meaning of the title: Pick — to choose. Twice — more than once. Be careful — think carefully and pay attention before making a decision. INTRODUCTION Narrator: “Sometimes in life, one decision can change everything. Adejoke and Omitoke were two cousins raised in completely different worlds. Their paths crossed, but neither of them knew that their meeting would lead to love, betrayal, pregnancy, and a painful family conflict. The question is… who was truly careful with the choice they made?” SCENE 1 — ADEJOKE'S CHILDHOOD Adejoke was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Banire. She was their first daughter, with an elder brother known as Professor Spirit. Although her parents lived in Ibadan, Adejoke was born on the Lagos mainland. From a young age, Adejoke was different. Her personality was difficult for people to understand, even to herself. But life had something unusual waiting for her. SCENE 2 — THE CALLING After finishing secondary school, Adejoke struggled to continue her education. Her mother tried everything possible to help her gain admission into university, but the opportunity did not come immediately. Then something unexpected happened. One day, Adejoke suddenly became sick and collapsed. Her family became worried. After seeking answers, they were told that Adejoke had been spiritually called by a traditional oracle. She was expected to become a priestess and serve the traditional religion. From that moment, Adejoke's life changed. She began receiving invitations from traditionalists to perform spiritual duties. SCENE 3 — ENTER OMITOKE Narrator: “But Adejoke's story was not the only story being written.” Omitoke was Adejoke's older cousin. Unlike Adejoke, Omitoke was raised in a Muslim home. She completed her primary and secondary education, obtained diploma certificates, and later graduated from Islamic studies. The two women came from different backgrounds, but family brought them together. SCENE 4 — THE VISIT One day, Omitoke visited Adejoke and stayed in her apartment for some months. She immediately fell in love with the neighborhood. “I really like this place,” Omitoke said. She began thinking about getting an apartment there, but unfortunately, her finances could not allow it. She eventually returned to her parents' home, but she continued visiting Adejoke. And one of those visits would change everything. SCENE 5 — LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT During one of Omitoke's visits, she saw a young man. Something about him immediately caught her attention. She turned to Adejoke and told her that she was interested in the man. Adejoke's response shocked her. Adejoke: “He's my nigga.” Omitoke misunderstood the word “nigga.” She thought Adejoke simply meant that the man was her friend. She didn't realize that Adejoke was telling her there was something romantic between them. SCENE 6 — THE SECRET RELATIONSHIP Omitoke and the young man became close. Their relationship eventually became intimate, and Omitoke became pregnant. She gave birth to the baby. But instead of celebrating with her cousin, Adejoke became angry and deeply hurt. Adejoke: “You took my man away from me!” Omitoke was confused. Omitoke: “But I didn't know he was your boyfriend. I thought he was just your friend.” The family became caught in a painful love triangle. SCENE 7 — THE QUESTIONS Now everything had changed. Was Omitoke wrong for falling in love with the man? Was Adejoke still in love with him? Did the man ever truly love Adejoke? Did he genuinely love Omitoke? Was he secretly still seeing Adejoke while dating Omitoke?
