Elaria Evernight spent her entire life believing in one thing:

The Moon Goddess never made mistakes.

As the future Luna of Silvermoon Territory, she eagerly awaited the day she would meet her fated mate, the man destined to be hers forever.

When the Moon Temple finally reveals Adrian Vale as her mate, the entire continent celebrates.

Everyone except Elaria.

Because from the moment their bond forms, something feels terribly wrong.

The connection she spent her life dreaming about isn't there.

Instead, she finds herself drawn to the one man she should fear most.

Caelum Draven.

The infamous Alpha of Shadowfang Territory.

The man whose bloodline has been blamed for an ancient tragedy.

The man she was warned never to trust.

As forbidden attraction ignites between them, Elaria begins uncovering secrets buried deep within werewolf history. Hidden records, shattered alliances, and dangerous truths reveal that the mate bond may not be as sacred as everyone believes.

But the deeper she digs, the more terrifying the truth becomes.

Because the lie isn't about her.

It isn't about her mate.

It isn't even about love.

It's about an entire world built upon a deception centuries in the making.

And when the truth finally emerges, it will destroy everything Elaria has ever believed.

Including the Moon Goddess herself.

What if fate was never fate at all?

Find out more in the book.

CHAPTER ONE: The Promise of Fate
The morning sunlight spilled across Silvermoon Territory like liquid gold, painting the rooftops in honeyed light and setting the dew-kissed fields aglow. It was beautiful. The kind of beautiful that made people believe in happy endings. The kind of beautiful that made young she-wolves dream of soulmates and forever. The kind of beautiful that made Elaria Evernight smile. She stood barefoot on the balcony outside her bedroom, her fingers curled around the stone railing as a gentle breeze teased strands of silver-blonde hair across her face. Below her, the territory was already awake. Merchants arranged flowers along the market square. Children raced through the streets with shrill laughter. Pack members decorated the pathways with white ribbons and moon lilies. Everywhere she looked, excitement danced through the air. Tomorrow was the Grand Moon Ceremony. Tomorrow, wolves from every territory would gather beneath the sacred moon. Tomorrow, countless young wolves would discover their mates. Including her. A nervous flutter stirred inside her stomach. Not fear. Excitement. Pure, unfiltered excitement. She had dreamed about this day for years. Perhaps every girl did. As a child, she had imagined meeting a handsome warrior who would sweep her off her feet. At fourteen, she had imagined a poet. At sixteen, an Alpha. At eighteen, she had convinced herself she no longer cared. That lie had lasted exactly three days. A laugh escaped her lips. She cared. Moon Goddess help her, she cared very much. "What are you smiling about?" Elaria turned. Her younger sister stood in the doorway. Lyra. Barely nineteen. Wild curls. Bright eyes. A perpetual talent for appearing exactly where she wasn't expected. Elaria's smile widened. "Nothing." Lyra snorted. "You only make that face when you're thinking about your future mate." Heat flooded Elaria's cheeks. "I do not." "You absolutely do." "I absolutely don't." "You absolutely do." Elaria grabbed a pillow from a nearby chair and threw it at her. Lyra shrieked. The pillow struck her squarely in the face. For a moment there was silence. Then both sisters burst into laughter. The sound echoed through the room like music. Lyra collapsed onto the bed dramatically. "Imagine," she groaned, staring at the ceiling. "Tomorrow you'll meet the love of your life and abandon me forever." Elaria rolled her eyes. "Oh yes. Because one ceremony is enough to erase twenty-one years of sisterhood." "You'd be surprised." "You are impossible." "And you're nervous." Elaria opened her mouth to deny it. Then closed it again. Because she was. Very nervous. A little excited. A little terrified. Mostly hopeful. The truth was that she had spent her entire life believing in the mate bond. Believing in destiny. Believing that somewhere in the world existed a person created perfectly for her. Someone whose soul would recognize hers. Someone who would look at her and feel the same inexplicable certainty she felt. The thought made her heart ache in the sweetest way. Like standing on the edge of a dream. "You know," Lyra said softly, "I think he'll be wonderful." Elaria's smile softened. "You do?" "Of course." "What if he's annoying?" "He won't be." "What if he's arrogant?" "He won't be." "What if he's ugly?" Lyra gasped. "The Moon Goddess would never be so cruel." Elaria laughed. A genuine laugh. The kind that came from somewhere deep inside. For a moment, everything felt perfect. Safe. Certain. As if the future were already waiting with open arms. A knock sounded at the door. "Girls?" Their mother's voice. Warm. Gentle. Familiar. "Breakfast is ready." Lyra immediately jumped to her feet. "Race you downstairs." Before Elaria could answer, her sister sprinted from the room. "Elaria!" "No running in the hallways!" Too late. The sound of retreating footsteps echoed through the corridor. Elaria shook her head fondly. Then followed. The scent of fresh pastries greeted her halfway down the staircase. Her stomach growled. Downstairs, sunlight poured through towering windows and filled the dining hall with warmth. Her father sat at the head of the table. Magnus Evernight. Alpha of Silvermoon Territory. A man respected throughout the continent. Yet at this moment he looked less like a powerful Alpha and more like a father trying to stop his daughter from stealing pastries before breakfast. Unfortunately, he was failing. Lyra already had two. "Good morning, sweetheart." Her mother smiled. Elaria kissed her cheek. "Good morning." The simple familiarity wrapped around her like a blanket. Family. Home. Love. The things that mattered most. As breakfast continued, conversation flowed easily. The upcoming ceremony dominated every topic. Guests had already begun arriving from neighboring territories. Preparations were nearly complete. Everything was ready. Everything. "Are you excited?" her father asked suddenly. Every eye turned toward her. Elaria swallowed. Then smiled. "I think so." "You think so?" Lyra repeated. Her father chuckled. Her mother reached across the table and squeezed her hand. Elaria looked at them. Really looked at them. And for reasons she couldn't explain, emotion tightened her throat. She loved them. So much. Perhaps that was why tomorrow felt so important. Because tomorrow marked the beginning of change. The beginning of a new chapter. A new life. A future she had spent years imagining. She didn't know what that future looked like. She didn't know who would stand beside her. But she believed he was out there. Waiting. Just as she was waiting for him. Outside, a church bell rang in the distance. One. Two. Three. The sound drifted across Silvermoon Territory like a promise. Elaria smiled. Tomorrow would change her life forever.
