BETRAYAL
ROSE'S POV
Ever since I was a kid, I've been a curse, the unwanted one— born from a clan of top tier witches without a spiritual route.
I have always known I was a mistake, a ticking time bomb waiting to happen— something temporal, never meant to have existed, but this wasn't how it was supposed to end.
At least not like this— I am still so young.
“Rose Bonaflore your supreme bone has rotted, leading to the producing of sickly red blood cells. I am afraid you have barely 6 months left to live," the physician's words kept replaying on an unending loop in my brain.
My vision blurred.
I bite my lower-lip trying to force back the tears.
Do I really have to go?
I haven't accomplished anything yet.
I couldn't even make mama proud.
“Rose, Rose," Laura's strained voice cut through my thoughts.
She sat next to me in her usual buzz cut, and extra large uniform— staring up at me with wide eyes.
I blinked twice— shaking the daze away.
“What? You were saying???" I asked, utterly confused.
My voice came out rasp, and hoarse— a lot louder than I had expected.
Laura opened her mouth to speak, but before she could get a word out my sister, Latifa's sugary sweet voice echoed across the classroom.
“Oh! It appears someone accidentally ate her attention alongside her extra large portion of breakfast."
The class immediately fell into laughter.
My cheeks turned red from embarrassment.
I lowered my head— clenching my fist so tightly my knuckles turned white.
“Silence!," the teacher's voice broke through the chaos. “I do not support bullying in my classroom."
The room fell silent.
I froze, my mind foggy with perplexed thoughts—was professor Callaway really defending me?
Unsure, I lifted my gaze— coming face first with his troubled expression.
The moment our eyes met, I could see a flash of disgust spread across his face.
“Some people eat so much because they have nothing else going for them."
His words sounded like my defense but I knew better— it was poison coded in sugar.
Low chuckles spread across the room.
My heart sank.
I knew it, he wasn't trying to defend me — he was just like the rest, who didn't want to be actively involved in the bullying.
I could hear the other students murmuring— some called me “a fat pig", others “an i***t who ate her very own spiritual core”, “a worthless fatso".
I had grown used to this— the mockery, their scrutinizing gazes, being looked down upon, the insults.
In a school like Fanextra academy, where magic determines one's place in the foot chain— such behavior was expected.
But why did it still hurt so much?
Was it because that was what I had heard my entire life, or because it was all true?
My eyes stung.
Laura squeezed my hand underneath the desk, a silent declaration that she was with me all the way.
I flashed her a small smile— padding her hands reassuringly.
Professor Callaway's eyes remained fixed on me, his expression growing more gruesome.
“Miss Bonaflore help answer the question? Who was the first magician in the stone age to attain both the heavenly immortal rank and spirit core formation at the same time, and how did he attain it?"
Gasps rippled through the classroom.
This question was far superior to our grade but only I knew— it wasn't as difficult as it sounded.
The answer was simple really— Elizabeth Elris, she acquired it through a failed portion experience, cementing witches as one of the marvels of the fantasy world.
The reason why I knew so much was because, she was my biggest roll model, and I was a direct descendant of her bloodline.
Slowly, I lifted my black rimed glasses.
I rose to my feet, determined to prove my worth this time.
“The... Answer is... Is..." I parted my trembling lips, but before I could even speak Latifa's voice ran out.
“Professor Callaway, Elizabeth Elris is the answer, although I don't know the details."
Everything stopped for a moment, then— a flood of applauses rained.
My breathe hitched, I had lost my opportunity once more.
“Third in the grade for a reason," Professor Callaway said, his voice bubbling with approval.
“Rose you may sit."
I quietly obeyed, fighting back tears.
“You could learn a thing or two from your amazing sister."
I almost laughed.
What could I possibly learn from her, she was just a pretty face with a demonic soul.
I didn't argue. I just sat there in my puddle of shame.
Maybe if I wasn't so slow or if my tongue wasn't so useless. I would have proven myself this time.
The rest of the class was a blur. I didn't hear a word, I just kept replaying everything that had happened.
Once it was closing, I and the other low-ranked students cleaned the classroom as always before departing to our various destination.
By the time we concluded it was already pretty late, but fortunately today was my day off from my part-time job.
I stepped out in the gentle pour, but I didn't head home directly, I needed some comfort and home was too hot for that.
With that in mind, I took a beeline for Norman, my boyfriend's house.
Norman was the forth most attractive guy in the entire school, the top three were known as the gods of Fanextra academy.
They barely appeared in public and even when they did— we the low ranked magicians weren't allowed to see.
I did hear they were prone to violent tendencies hence they were often home tutored— but somehow they still managed to score 1st place, 2nd and 4th place with ease.
Well, back to reality— Norman is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I am so lucky to have him.
He is intelligent, an academic prodigy, a merman with an S-rank spirit route, kind, and best of all, he doesn't look down on me, he truly sees me.
I hurried to Norman's apartment, and as always I opened the door with my spear key.
Quietly, I made my way through the living room with my dripping back-pack.
My mind was foggy— playing all possible scenarios.
How was he going to react to the news of my dead?
Would he hate me?
I wondered to myself but all my thoughts were drowned by intimate sounds drifting from Norman's bed room.
My body stiffened.
My feet felt stuck in place.
My gaze drifted towards the bedroom door.
What was happening?
Was Norman home?
He wasn't supposed to be home till 8 pm, that's how it has always been.
My hands gave out, and I dropped my bag to the floor.
My books splattered everywhere.
My heart banged like a beating drum.
Silently I prayed, “God please don't let it be him, I can't handle another bad news today."
With shaking steps, I staggered towards the bedroom— sweat beating on my forehead.
As I approached the half unlocked door, the smell of arousal and s*x hit me like a freak train.
The sound of wet flesh hitting flesh hit my eardrums, alongside intimate moans.
My heart skipped.
That voice was too familiar... It was Norman's.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, Norman couldn't betray me like.
Without a second's more of hesitation, I took in a deep breathe and pushed the door open.
I had expected to witness a horrific sight but what I saw made my blood run cold.
My boyfriend and sister were butt naked in his bed having s*x.
