Chapter 49

Dai walked tentatively with crutches as she tried to move across the room she was in to get the glass of water placed at the other end for her by Sarah, the female human doctor that was treating her back to health alongside her husband Charlie, it got harder the further she moved and she had to keep summoning up tons of courage for herself to get her moving, she was a wreck and it wasn’t something she liked, as she got more than halfway through, Charlie walked in and opened his mouth in surprise. “Whoa, walking this far already?” he asked and glanced at his wife as well, she was beaming with a wide grin as if she was responsible for Dai’s improvement and progress, in truth though she was also just glad to be experiencing this kind of thing with another being entirely, another race of creatures thought to be imaginary or just fantasy. “Her healing capabilities is unbelievable, I mean if humans could heal this way, well, we wouldn’t be humans I guess” Sarah said and chuckled, she really couldn’t contain her glee, she had been the one to see Dai as she fell to the earth on a farmland in her dragon form, she had immediately run to husband to tell him about it and had to drag him out to the site when he didn’t believe her and thought she was just trying to mess with him as she usually does, but as the they got to the site with his very eyes he indeed saw a shrinking dragon as it reverted back to its human form in the middle of a dragon sized crater, it turned out to be a lady and she was badly wounded so Sarah acted quickly to cover her bloodied body with her coat and tried to block the outlets of blood still flowing, Sarah had to actually scream at her husband to spur him into action because he only stood there gaping and marveling in shock at the sight. “Will you please answer some questions for us now, please? There’s a whole lot we really wanna know” Charlie asked as he watched Dai inch closer and closer to the table, she had been tight lipped ever since she woke from the coma and realized she has been unconscious for so long, if Charlie was to guess he would say that she actually regretted waking up at all and would have preferred it if she never woke up. “What do you wanna know?” Dai asked a bit bitterly as she kept pushing herself forward, “Don’t you doctors have experiments that you do that will tell you everything you want to know about anything or anyone? So why ask me anything?” she said and moved some more then got to her destination and picked up the glass of water with a shaky hand and then drank it all, as soon as she was through, she dropped the cup and then turned around to start moving back to the bed. “Ohh, please you should take it easy” Sarah said and rushed to her side and tried to help her along but Dai raised her hand and stopped her, then she continued on her own, struggling and in pain but not giving up and not asking for help. “Well we would never perform experiments on you without your permission and it would have to be that it was absolutely necessary to conduct the experiment as well, even at that, we only did some blood work and a few samples from you were analyzed as we needed them to be able to treat you well, of course they were rich in information as well, but those can’t really tell us much, not as much as you yourself could” Charlie responded, this time, Dai had gotten to the bed, at a much faster pace than she did going to the cup of water. She thought it over and realized that, the little she could do was to actually be cooperative with these guys, they are her benefactors after all, she didn’t ask them but they did, they helped her heal and recover and they treated her, it gave them an extra mouth to feed but they didn’t complain, they helped her out of the goodness of their hearts, and as they had promised, they hadn’t actually told another person about her existence, she had actually started to feel safe with them already as it was. “Ok then, tell me, what do you wanna know?” Dai asked as she sat back on the bed needing to rest for a while, the couple actually prioritized her and her needs, so if she told them she wanted to rest they would immediately leave her to rest and would not come back till they were sure she was well rested “Ok, ok” Sarah said and then the both of them drew a chair to sit in front of her so they could hear her well as she explained and shed light to what wasn’t clear to them, “How did you become a dragon? I mean, from the blood work and samples test that we did, there were so many evidence that you were once human in the results, was it magic?” Sarah asked. Dai was actually surprised that they could have figured out that she was once human just from the little tests they could conduct, she wasn’t going to underestimate or underrate this couple doctors, seems they are geniuses after all, and the evidence was in the fact that she shouldn’t have survived, but they made it possible even with very limited resources. “What I am is called a dn mutant, a new generation of dragons descended from the Eldrian race as humans, but experimented upon by a very evil organization called the WIC, so as to bring out the dragon side through the abundance of the Eldrian gene in me” She stated and she knew right away that her answer has actually brought out more questions for them, she then decided to go the long route and explain it all to them from the very beginning. Dai explained to the them in full as much as she knows, telling them about the original Eldrians and how they had stayed hidden on their continent and amongst the humans as well, the couple at first found it hard to comprehend that there was an entirely different continent that had dragons alone on it, Charlie even brought out a map so that Dai could point out the region where the continent is. After winning that argument, Dai continued by telling them that what gave rise to dn mutants was the fact that the Eldrians amongst the humans mixed with them and the children they gave birth to wasn’t a pure Eldrians and as such they don’t become dragons like the original and pure Eldrians, in fact, the human gene usually dominated no matter how much the Eldrian gene might be. From there she digressed to explain about the WIC, the controllers of the world from the shadows having so much influence in almost everything, she told them of how the WIC discovered the Eldrians in their continent and went to them to gain their trust, only for them to betray the Eldrians and freeze them all up along with the entire continent. Dai further explained how the Eldrians who were on the human continents all gathered and decided to fight back but were conquered by the WIC as well and a lot of them were put under their control and that made the WIC realize that they had been mingling with the humans, and so as a safeguard, they decided to build their own army of dragons by searching for their descendants with abundance of their genes and from there the experimentations began and they started to successfully create those they called dn mutants, the new generation of dragons, part of which she was. She decided to give them the full details especially on dragons since that was what really fascinated them, so she told them about the special generation dragons as well, those born as a result of the original Eldrians also called the old generation dragons mixing with the dn mutants also callee the new generation dragons, she informed them that these generation of dragons were more volatile, more powerful although the WIC made it seem like they were on equal terms with the dn mutants especially when it came to powers but then the difference wasclear and the only thing most of them lacked at the time was experience once they could acquire that, they pretty much leave the dn mutants in the dust. The couple asked about the healing factor and delayed aging all which was confirmed to be right by Dai, she informed them she was close to forty years of age and they refused to believe her because she didn’t look to be past her late twenties, then she further blew their minds when she told them she was soon going to be able to decide how old she wants to look after every shift, meaning she can decide to look her age or younger or older, when she was asked how the dragons did it that they don’t end up being with someone too young or too old for them deceived by appearance, she told them that dragons just know, they never end up with the wrong person because no matter how the person chooses to look, younger or older, the other dragon will know the truth from the aura that comes off of the other. At that point they decided to give it a rest and stop pestering her about her race, they told her to rest and left, shutting the door behind them, immediately the door was shut, Dai stood up and continued moving to and fro, first with the crutch and then without one and then without any, she wasn’t about to keep on wallowing in her misfortune, she was going to get up and do something about it.
