Chapter 16

1101 Words
After long hours on the road and a few stops for refueling both the car and themselves, the duo got to a part of Kyoto, Japan and settled in a house not unlike the previous one they had been is while in Osaka, the area as well was as remote as the part of Osaka where they had been before. Ryoka really hated the fact that she was visiting all these awesome places but has no opportunity to have the fun they promise, it was a really sad thing the more she thought about it. While at Osaka, she could only go shopping for groceries with Damien and the one time they had gone shopping for clothes, they had been uptight about the whole thing as if they were shopping for items of war rather than normal clothes. Ryoka really hated her situation, she really wanted it to change for the better, it’s just a pity that the only thing she could think of to do so as to change her situation was eluding her. The shift. Ryoka kept thinking to herself that there was supposed to be a manual for the transformation, it was so difficult for her to attain, and Damien even told her that such was not the case amongst all the dragons he had encountered, be it the originals (old generation), the dn mutants (new generation) or the special generation. She had even tried to communicate in one of her dreams where mother comes, she wanted to ask mother for enlightenment or at least tips on how to attain the shift, mother keeps asking for her help, but how was she to render any help when she can’t even transform properly into a dragon. Ryoka huffed as she toyed with her food, using the chopsticks to twirl and untwist the ramen in front of her, lately, she noticed that her eating had kind of balanced out, she wasn’t consuming as much as she initially started to when the whole thing started, she wondered why but couldn’t bring herself to aske Damien, they weren’t really in smooth talking terms yet. “Are you still mad at me?” Damien asked after observing her for a while as she ate or rather didn’t eat. “Why would I be?” Ryoka replied, in honesty, she wasn’t mad at him any more, she already has what she would do concerning his case in her mind, but what really did bother her was just the fact of the failure of her getting to shift. “I know I was a bit harsh on you, for what it’s worth, I really am sorry, just remember that I am here to help you, in any and every way that I can” Damien said to her. “Then help me, help me with the shift, help me transform, give me a method, a way, any way that I can finally get to transform, help me” she said to him in a voice mixed with pleas and frustration both. Damien was touched by her words, but he had no answer to them yet, so he kept silent and for a moment everything and everywhere was muted. Later that night as Ryoka laid on her bed she only kept thinking of how she can successfully achieve her shift, she had tried everything, even the hand seals she saw her father and the other man make before they shifted had proved to be futile in helping her attain her own shift. Damien had explained that the hand seals were only useful for the dn mutants as it helps them channel their energy from their core so they could circulate it through their body and then shift. He had told her that it wouldn’t be useful for both originals and special generation dragons because they were born as dragons unlike the dn mutants who were humans that had the dragon gene (dn gene) in them in abundance and were experimented on by the WIC to make them actual dragons. He also explained that the actions of the WIC on said humans with dn gene made their human genes void and the dn gene to override and take over completely, he said something about dna splicing and whatnot but she did not understand anything past that point. Ryoka argued that the seals do help her as they had a way they affected her, especially when she was just getting to know who she was and what she was capable of, it had helped her during the run from WIC’s goons as at when she got separated from her father, before meeting Damien. Damien had argued back that it was all in her head and that the seals didn’t really do anything for her except help her state of mind to achieve what she needed at that point, and that was reaching her core to pull out her powers. After a while of back and forth on the matter, she had accepted Damien’s point but then deep down she knew the seals really did affect and help her and she was willing to prove it one of these days, not necessarily to Damien, but rather to herself mainly. Ryoka slept off while still thinking about a way out, and when next she opened her eyes it was morning already, she was surprised because she hadn’t dreamt at all, something that happened in a while, even if she was just taking a nap, she would dream, but then what had changed? She thought. She got up and freshened up, dressed for the training in sports tights, she had a lot of this purchased after an advice from Damien, it was later she got to see the importance as they keep tearing and ripping all through training, especially when she was trying to shift and her size -usually just a part of her- would keep increasing and decreasing. As she got out, she saw Damien out already as usual, fully set as well and stretching for what would be the first part of the training, which is jogging and running to the actual venue of the training. “You set?” Damien asked her to which she nodded and picked her own backpack which Damien had set for her with items and weapons needed for the training. “Ok then” Damien said, “let us go and make today the day you shift into a dragon by all means” he added and surprised her a bit with that, but she smiled and nodded and then they picked off.
