The Night the Sky Split Open
PENED
The palace was quiet.
Too quiet.
King Alexander stepped into his chamber, loosening the clasp of his robe as he exhaled slowly.
“…strange night,” he murmured.
He stopped.
Something felt wrong.
The air was heavy.
Still.
Even the torches along the walls burned differently—flickering low, as if the flames themselves were uncertain.
Alexander frowned slightly.
He had lived through wars.
Through famine.
Through betrayal.
He knew the feeling of danger.
This was different.
This wasn’t danger.
This was… something waiting.
Then—
A scream.
“SOPHIA!”
Alexander didn’t think.
He ran.
“Sophia!! Sophia!!”
His footsteps echoed sharply through the corridor as he reached the chamber doors and pushed them open.
Queen Sophia sat upright on the bed, breathing hard, her eyes wide—but distant.
“Stay back…” she whispered.
“No… don’t let them take—”
Alexander rushed to her side.
“Sophia! Look at me!”
She didn’t respond.
Her hands trembled violently.
Her gaze darted around the room as if she was seeing something that wasn’t there.
“They’re in the sky…” she murmured.
“…they’re coming down…”
Alexander grabbed her shoulders.
Firm.
Grounding.
“Sophia! Wake up!”
She gasped.
Her eyes snapped into focus.
Silence.
“…Alexander?”
He exhaled slowly.
“You were screaming.”
Sophia blinked, her breathing uneven as she looked around the room.
Reality settled back in—but not completely.
“I… I was dreaming…”
Alexander frowned.
“What did you see?”
She hesitated.
Her brows pulled together as if she was trying to catch something slipping away.
“I don’t remember everything…”
(beat)
“…but it felt real.”
She placed a hand on her head.
“There was… light in the sky.”
Alexander’s expression shifted.
Slightly.
Sophia continued, her voice quieter now.
“…not like lightning.”
“…something opening.”
Alexander didn’t interrupt.
He watched her.
Carefully.
She swallowed.
“And… shapes.”
“Shapes?” he asked.
Sophia nodded slowly.
“…not human.”
(beat)
“…they were coming down.”
Her voice dropped.
“…taking people.”
Alexander’s jaw tightened.
“Taking them where?”
Sophia shook her head quickly.
“I don’t know!”
Her breathing became uneven again.
“It was like… they came to capture the kingdom…”
“…or invade it…”
Silence filled the room.
Heavy.
Uncomfortable.
Then—
The wind howled violently outside.
Both of them turned toward the window.
“That sound…” Alexander said.
Sophia’s eyes widened slightly.
“…it’s the same.”
Alexander looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
Before she could answer—
⚡
A blinding flash filled the room.
Both of them froze.
“…no…” Sophia whispered.
Alexander stepped toward the window.
“That’s not lightning.”
Another flash.
Longer.
Brighter.
The light didn’t fade immediately.
It lingered.
Sophia stood slowly.
Her voice trembling.
“…this is it.”
Alexander turned.
“What is?”
She raised her hand.
Pointing upward.
“…my dream.”
Alexander looked out—
And went still.
“…what… is that?”
The sky wasn’t whole anymore.
It was opening.
A glowing tear stretched across the darkness.
Burning.
Growing.
The clouds around it twisted unnaturally, pulled toward the tear as if something on the other side was dragging them in.
Sophia stepped closer beside him.
Her voice was barely a whisper.
“…they’re here.”
Inside the tear—
Shapes appeared.
At first, they looked like shadows.
Then—
They moved.
Massive.
Dark.
Watching.
Not falling.
Not drifting.
Hovering.
Alexander’s expression hardened instantly.
“Guards!”
The doors burst open.
“Yes, Your Majesty!”
Alexander pointed to the sky.
“Look.”
The guard turned—
And froze.
“…those are not clouds…”
“No,” Alexander said quietly.
“…they’re not.”
The guard took a step back.
“…what are they…?”
No one answered.
Because no one knew.
ANOTHER PART OF THE PALACE
Elara stood on the balcony.
Still.
Barefoot.
The cold stone beneath her feet didn’t register.
Her hand pressed against her chest.
“…why does it feel like…”
Her heartbeat pounded harder.
Stronger.
Not normal.
“…something is calling me?”
She looked up.
The sky above her was no longer the sky she knew.
It was torn open.
The glowing crack stretched endlessly, casting an unnatural light across the entire kingdom.
Below—
Chaos had begun.
People ran.
Voices shouted.
Bells rang from distant towers.
But Elara didn’t move.
She couldn’t.
Something had locked her in place.
Above her—
One of the shapes moved.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
Turning.
Toward her.
Her breath caught.
“…no…”
Her fingers tightened against the railing.
“…why me…”
Then—
A voice.
Not from the sky.
Not from behind her.
Inside her head.
[We found you.]
Her eyes widened.
“…who said that?!”
Silence.
The wind roared around her.
The light flickered.
Then again—
[Do not be afraid.]
She stepped back.
Her voice shook.
“…stay away from me…”
The light above her intensified.
The ship moved slightly.
Closer.
“…what are you?”
HIGH ABOVE – UNKNOWN
Eros stood still.
Watching.
The projection before him showed the kingdom below.
Fires beginning.
Movement spreading.
Fear rising.
“She remembers fragments,” he said.
Beside him, the alien king—Theodore—remained calm.
“That’s enough.”
Eros tilted his head slightly.
“She saw us before we arrived.”
A pause.
Theodore’s voice was quiet.
“Good.”
(beat)
“That means the connection is stable.”
Eros looked back at the image.
At her.
“…she’s reacting faster than expected.”
The king’s eyes didn’t move.
“She was always going to.”
BACK TO: BALCONY
Elara couldn’t move.
Her eyes locked on the sky.
Her breathing slowed unnaturally.
That feeling in her chest—
It wasn’t just fear anymore.
It was something else.
Something answering.
Her voice dropped.
“…why me?”
Above her—
The sky continued to tear open.
The ships began to shift.
Descending.
Slowly.
Unstoppably.
Below—
The kingdom began to panic.
And inside the palace—
Sophia stood frozen beside Alexander.
Her voice barely audible.
“…it’s happening…”
Alexander didn’t look away from the sky.
“…then we fight it.”
But even he knew—
This was not something they understood.
FINAL MOMENT
The tear widened.
The light spread.
The ships moved closer.
And on the balcony—
Elara stood at the center of it all.
Unmoving.
Watching.
Chosen.
And for the first time—
She understood something she couldn’t explain.
This wasn’t random.
This wasn’t war.
This was a search.
And whatever had come through that sky—
Had come for her.
