CHAPTER SIX

EMERY'S POV

He pulled away and before I could protest, he placed a finger on my lips, then raised my chin and stared at me for a while. I stared back, trying to understand the look he passed my way. It was a delicate look but disappeared almost immediately and was replaced with a had stare

"This is the very last time this will happen again" I stared at him with furrowed brows. What was this all about? Yes, I knew we shouldn't be doing this behind my mother's back but what's with the mixed feelings and signals. This minute he is kissing my lips and the next he is staring at me with disdain

The confusion and questions seemed to be evident in my eyes as he sighed and walked a few feet away, his hands rubbing his temple. “I love Leah, Emery, I love your mum with all my heart. I can't accept you as my mate, that would break her, it would ruin my reputation and yours too. There's just no way on earth that we can be together” I nodded, trying so hard to not show the hurt in my heart. I barely met him a few days ago and he's got his hooks on me already.

I don't think I did a good job in hiding my hurt or maybe he could just sense it? He was an Alpha after all so I wouldn't be surprised. “I know it's a lot for you. You're young and…”

“I understand. I also think it's best to stay as far away from each other as possible. I agree that this would be the very last you and I would have anything such as this again.“ He nodded satisfactorily “Good” he said and began to walk away.

I stood there and watched his back, a lot of emotions surging through me. He was such a good man. He really loved her with all he's got and she saw him as just a business. I didn't know if to tell him or just mind my business

“Even if you told him, he won't believe you” my wolf said and I nodded inwardly. She was right. He was deeply in love with her and it's only normal that…

“What are you doing just standing there?“ His voice echoed. I was so lost in my thoughts that I had not noticed him stop walking and turned to stare at me. “Um…I..“ I stuttered “Let's go. Or you want to stay here and get attacked and killed by another lunatic wolf?“ I shook my head and ran to catch up with him “I won't always be there to save you. Mind the places you wander into” It was a warning laced with a little concern. Or was I just imagining it?

The rest of the walk back was dead quiet. Which was awkward to me, I couldn't say the same for him as he seemed pretty content with it. I was fighting the urge to tell him the truth. I don't know, I just felt it was wrong

“It's not just your feelings, Emery. What our mum is planning to do is all shades of wrong. We should tell him, he is our mate after all” I sighed inwardly. And shook my head against her opinion. I wanted to think everything through before making a decision. Rushing into things might only do more harm than good and cause me regrets.

We got the pack house after thirty minutes of walking and both went out separate ways without so much as a goodbye or “have a nice day”

“Well, that's the point of avoiding each other isn't it?“ I couldn't agree more. The rest of the day went by in a rush and I had slept off pretty early, not keeping track of time

“Sweetie!“ Mom's voice echoed from the other end of the door as she knocked. My eyes fluttered open and I impulsively turned to the alarm clock on my bedside table.

“7:45?. That's pretty early” I muttered and rose from the bed while rubbing my still sleepy eyes. “Emery?“ Mom called again just before I opened the door. “Hi Mom!“ I greeted while yawning

“You weren't at the table for dinner yesterday. Is everything okay?“ She inquired and I nodded, moving from the door and she followed me in “I just slept off really early” I answered “Logan tells me you had a rough day yesterday” she inquired deeper “True. I wandered into the woods and got lost. He saved my life when a rogue attacked me” She didn't say a word and just hugged me

“I'm glad you're okay” she said and unwrapped herself from my grip. “I came to check on you and see how you're doing” I nodded with a smile “Breakfast is almost ready by the way” she said on her way out the door “Be out in a few”

Since I came back here, having breakfast has always been one hell of a difficulty for me. Mom wouldn't agree to my request for being served breakfast in my room. She wants Logan and I to “bond” . And for the love of everything, that was what I dreaded

“Hi!“ I said as I took my seat at the table. He nodded, not passing me as much as a glance. He really took this “staying away from each other seriously”

'As it should be, ' My subconscious mind reminded. Today wasn't as bad as I expected. He acted as though I didn't exist throughout and I returned the energy. Mom was the only one who kept rambling and talking about the things she planned to do during the day while we just listened keenly and ate our portion of the food

“Emery! — I lifted my gaze to her abruptly — You mentioned something about a boyfriend the other time we spoke on the phone” She started, I subconsciously turned to Alpha Logan. He didn't react which made Ciara wince

'You winced too'

'That's just the mate bond'

'Yeah right '

(Rolls eyeballs)

“Yeah..Scott” I answered. “How are things with you two?“ I didn't get the question and my face gave it away. “When are you going to introduce him to us?“ She clarified and I mouthed 'Oh'

“Pretty soon..“

“Sorry to interrupt, but we have a situation Alpha Logan” A guard walked in, cutting me off my words.

“Excuse me!“ He excused himself and left the table while the topic of my love life died down.
