Chapter Five

Alpha Logan: I sat in silence as the gentlemen before me gave me a presentation of their work. They were both Architects and were looking to be part of the big infrastructure change I was about to implement in the pack. From what I could see of their work, they were very impressive and they'd already been hired in my head but I was still interested in seeing how good they were at persuasion and they weren't very good at that. I was only half listening to their presentation at this point but not on purpose. For some reason that damned girl keeps appearing in my head. I had made a horrible mistake last night, one that could ruin my reputation but that was the first and last time. I had to reject her as soon as possible before she destroyed my home. How are the f*****g odds that my mate would turn out to be my stepdaughter? Ever since my wife had introduced her to me yesterday, I had been doing everything to get thoughts of her out of my mind and hated her for trying to come between us. We were supposed to be a family and now all I could think about was pinning my stepdaughter to the wall and making her come as she moaned my name. Was I sick of that? I didn't choose her as my mate. This wasn't my fault. It was the moon goddess' "And if you give us the chance to show you the ideas for this project, you'll be even more wowed," one of the architects said, excitement as well as nervousness taking over him. “And what makes you think I've been wowed?" I asked with a level stare. They both glanced at each other in confusion and then back at me, "Well, you see sir…" One started to say but I felt a sharp lang in my chest. “Mate in danger!” my wolf Lupus growled in my ear. I stood up abruptly, realizing exactly what that meant. Emery was in trouble! "Um sir…" one of the interviewees called but I walked past them, heading out. “ Alpha, where are you going? You are not done," Silas said in a careful tone as he fell into steps beside me. "I have somewhere to be, tell the two brothers to wait for my return," I said and Silas nodded and turned back to the conference room. Where on earth did she go? I pondered as I tried to trace her scent. She was supposed to be home, how come I was sensing her somewhere else? I quickly ran towards the woods, her scent getting stronger as I did. Emery! I growled out. If she was in the woods, then she most definitely had been attacked by untrained wolves or worse Rogues. Inside the woods, I heard a scream coming from somewhere and I ran towards where the sound had come from and for the first time in my life, dear gripping me. I could sense I was close. She'd almost gotten to the north border of the pack. The woods and trees were a blur of green as I ran. The forest began to open up and instantly spotted Emery about to be cut by a rogue. I powered run and crashed into Rogue, sending him flying over six feet in the air and falling with a bone-cracking thud to the ground. The Rogue stood up about to fight but I grabbed his leg and used him as a hammer, hammering the ground and trees. I didn't stop until Emery's scared voice penetrated my angry thoughts. "He's dead!" She yelled. I let go of the rogue's now lifeless body and glanced up at Emery. She ran into my hands, her eyes filled with tears. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," she repeated crying into my arms. I held her tight as if letting her go could kill me. Fuck! I cursed under my breath. "Why the hell did you leave the pack without permission? You could have died!" I yelled, my eyes blazing with anger. "I'm sorry," she said still holding onto me like her life depended on me. I wanted to push her away, I couldn't be this close to her but my hands held her and for some reason couldn't do anything. "I'm sorry," she sniffed one last time before stepping away from me. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hands. "I guess it's time you reject me," she said, her lips quivering. "I'm not rejecting you," I said to her, shocked by my statement but sticking by it. She blinked up at me in surprise, her blue orbs doing diabolically delicious things to my inside. I of course didn't let it show this time but I couldn't deny the intense attraction and tension between us She'd almost scared me to death and I wasn't planning on letting her go now. "What do you mean, you aren't rejecting me?” She asked. "I mean," I stepped towards her and grabbed her chin to look up at me. "I said no Emery, I'm not rejecting you. At least for now," I said as my eyes bore into hers before claiming her lips.
