I grab two plates and start piling food onto them, making sure Eden gets a bit of everything. She’s missed out on so much of life, tonight she’s going to taste it all. When I hand her the heaping plate, her eyes go wide, sparkling with wonder. “This is all for me?” Her voice is full of awe, like I just handed her treasure. “Of course.” “Thank you, but there’s no way I’ll be able to eat this much!” she says, though I remember the way she demolished that mountain of French toast the other morning. I have faith she’ll surprise herself. I chuckle and start in on my own plate. Around us, the rest of the pack finally begins to fill theirs. Eden notices too, her brow furrowing. “Ha—wow.
