Chapter 2

~Triston Anderson~ I stared out the window, embracing the beauty of the nature that surrounded my mansion. The trees and flowers danced around like there was no care in the world, I couldn't help but feel jealous of them. Which also made me suddenly feel like going on a walk, as staying in this place felt equivalent to living in a prison. Only, there was availability of food and comfort and whatever s**t I wanted. But I couldn't walk, so what was the use? I'd been crippled for a month already. A month! That one month of staying at home felt like a year. When the doctor had said I'd be crippled, I hadn't taken the news lightly. I literally wanted to destroy the entire hospital. Except I couldn't stand up to do that. My mom had tried her best to calm me, but I just wouldn't heed. They didn't understand what I was feeling. Knowing that a few hours ago, I could walk without assistance, and now, I can't even stand without a lot of pain accompanying that simple action. I stayed in the hospital for an entire week, till I was discharged and brought home in a wheelchair. When I'd entered the house, I couldn't help but think about the fact that I'd gotten out of that same house without knowing that I'd return in a wheelchair. “Hey man, I'm here. Missed me?” A male voice called from behind, cutting through my thoughts. I turned to see Rhys sauntering into my room. Rhys Brad was my best friend since forever. The fact we were both of the same age made it very comfortable around each other. Rhys had been the one there for me the entire month I'd been frustrated with just sitting in one place. “I want to go on a walk.” my tone came out cold, which had been the only tone I possessed since I had been crippled. He raised a brow. “Really? And what, if I may ask, is the cause of this unexpected statement?” He had every right to be surprised, as I hadn't been in any mood to be out of my room since I got home from the accident. I turned back out the window. “I just want to take a view of the outside world.” Even though I wasn't staring at him, I could sense my friend's grin was from ear to ear. My hand fell to the controller of the wheelchair I sat on, then turning it, I turned to Rhys, who, as expected, was smiling widely. “You taking me out or not?” My expression stayed neutral, though his wide grin almost made me break a smile. He rushed to grab the wheelchair's push handles. “I'll be an asshole to refuse.” then chuckled, “I can't believe you actually want to leave the house.” I didn't bother replying and just allowed him to push me out of the room. *** “I'm still so surprised you willingly told me you want to go out.” Rhys said for like the billionth time as we moved round the road of New York City. My gaze danced around. Tons of people with a life of their own, walking around. Some stealing glances at the hot man in a wheelchair. It made me wonder what was going on in the mind of the people that passed me by. They had their own problems waiting for them at home or at whatever place the problem felt comfortable to reside. “Alison called.” He cut through my thoughts and I was already aware of the only reason my mom would call him. “That's good.” I said as my gaze flickered around the road. “You know it isn't easy for her having to take care of you on her own.” His tone held ‘serious mode' tone. “And I think she should stop.” “Will you just at least let the caretaker last a month and not fire them the day they arrive?” He sounded tired of having the same conversation over and over again. Within the past month, I had had tons of caretakers, but neither had lasted past a week. None of them were ever capable enough for me and I had to just fire them. Rhys stopped pushing the wheelchair and walked to stand beside me with his hand on his hips. “You know—” He began, but I was no longer listening. My gaze caught sight of a familiar figure ambling towards us from straight ahead. I knew her immediately as the female I'd almost hit the day my life took a strange turn of events. Her hair was packed to the back and she looked lost in thought, her gaze wasn't even directed to whatever was in front of her. As she neared us, I could already sense that she was going to hit Rhys, even before it happened. “Watch out man.” I warned, but it was too late, she'd already bumped into him. She staggered backwards and so did he, but both gained their composures before landing on the ground. Her brows immediately furrowed and I could sense that she was about to explode. “Oh m—” Rhys began, but was cut short by her stomping towards him. “What the heck, are you f*****g blind?!” She barked, “can't you see where you heading or is something bothering that brain of yours?!” She was certainly something and I didn't like her type. The last time, I hadn't said a word since I knew I was at fault and deserved her attitude. But now, I wasn't going to leave without putting her in her place. “Hey, what on earth are you talking about?” I asked in a low, but intimidating tone.
