Chapter 3

~Alix Bradson~ I raised an eyebrow when I noticed the man beside the one who'd hit me. I hadn't noticed his presence before and when he spoke in an intimidating tone, I had to glare at him. “Excuse me?” My hands crossed over my chest. “Who are you?” “I am the friend of the person you bumped into.” He introduced, in a stern tone. “I bumped into?” I huffed, “the moron obviously bumped into me.” “If you were a little logical,” he started, “you would note that since my friend was just standing and you were the one walking towards us,” “It is only sensible to think that the person standing cannot bump into you that was walking, so you were obviously the one who bumped into him.” I hurled a death glare his way. He was obviously right, and I hated the fact that he was. But I didn't have time to argue (though I'd obviously lose if I decided to), so I scoffed and walked past the guy I'd hit. Normally, I wouldn't be so insulting, but I had been on edge ever since Dan broke up with me. Like why? We'd loved each other so much, so what was the use of just calling it off? And without a f*****g reason at that. I'd thought the reason he was acting off was because he planned on proposing, but it had ended up being because he wanted to end our relationship. It used to annoy me when I'd see girlfriends acting clingy after a breakup, but I couldn't help it. I had to find out why he had suddenly ended it and so, if going to his house to plead for a second chance every week was the way I'd get my answers, then I planned on never stopping. In annoyance, I slammed the door to the apartment I lived in, after opening it and walking in, then fell on a couch afterwards. I was really frustrated. Not only because I'd just come out of Dan's house with him cussing at me to leave him alone. But then I had to meet with some asshole who had to irritate me further. “Why the f**k did you slam the door?!” My roommate, Lucy Grayson, barked from the room. That made me immediately regret slamming the door so loudly. I was already on edge and didn't want Lucy adding up to that. Although she was just two years older than I was, she acted more like an older aunt that hated me. Well, there was nothing I could do about it since shel was the one paying all the bills in the house, and I had been living rent-free for an entire year. But if all the insults she'd offered was a way of payment, then I certainly had paid a billion times more than she had. She walked out of my room, in my most expensive gown. “That's my cloth.” I pointed out, like she wasn't aware of that. “And this is my house.” Her hand rested on her hip, “when the f**k do you plan on leaving?” My eyes squeezed shut, willing myself to calm down. I really wasn't prepared for her nagging. “Can't you just go live at your f*****g dad's place?” She obviously knew why I couldn't live with my dad, yet she still decided to say that. “Or at least get a f*****g job so you can pay part of the bills.” She huffed. I had been searching for a job for a year and she was also aware of that. Still, she always wanted to rub her superiority on me for having to give me a roof over my head. “I will.” I said when I felt I was calm enough to speak without shouting at her, then opened my eyes, “where are you heading to?” “Bulg's place.” She grabbed one of my purses that was on the couch, then headed towards the door. “Don't eat anything till I come back.” That came as an order, making her sound like she could be my mom while I was a teenager, “Also, lock the doors by eight and ensure you don't get the place messy.” She opened the door, about to leave, but annoyingly stopped as though recalling something, “also, don't ever slam my door. You know you can't fix it if it's broken,” then she left. I huffed, annoyed at how helpless I had to feel all because I didn't have a house of my own. My phone vibrated from where it lay in the pocket of my pants so I reached for it, staring at who the caller was. It was my best friend, Nirman. Answering the call, I placed the phone close to my ear. “Hey Nirman, what's up?” My tone expressed my exhaustion. Exhausted from all the things that had to piss me off that day. “Alix, I've got good news for you.” He sounded gleeful. But was greeted by a sigh from me. “I really need some good news at the moment, so, I'm listening.” “It's something that'll possibly solve all your problems.” He said. Now my attention was piqued. “All my problems?” “Yeah, your jobless problem and it'll probably help you get over Dan.” My brows drew together as I sat up straight. “What do you mean my jobless situation?” I didn't even care how I sounded like some female in an advertisement. Also, I wasn't sure if I was ready to move on from Dan yet. The love I had for him was way too much to just let him go so soon. But I certainly wanted a job so I could get off Lucy's hand, so I was willing to do anything at that moment. “A friend of mine saw some job advertisement,” he started, “you'll be the caretaker of some billionaire and earn a huge sum of money.” “Like how much are we talking about?” I asked with tons of interest. “I'm not sure, but I do know that you'll earn a lot of money.” “Ca you send me a link on the advertisement?” I asked, rising to my feet. “Sure, I'll ask my friend.” “Thanks Nirman,” I said sincerely, “what would I do without you?” “Probably stay jobless.” he joked, and for the first time that day, I laughed sincerely.
