Chapter 5

1149 Words
I tossed round the bed all night out of excitement and impatience for the dawn to break. I had never felt happier. When I'd gotten back home the previous day, I'd thrown Lucy into a tight hug. It was as a result of her nagging and superiority that I got the job. She had been surprised by the hug, but she didn't pull apart, neither did she hug back. Before I went to bed, I'd arranged what I was going to wear. I was going to make sure I looked my best. Also going to ensure I worked well and that my boss liked me and found me to be a great caretaker. I had decided to sleep earlier so I could wake up early since I didn't want to end up going late to work on my first day. But I'd been way too excited to get any sleep. Since I knew I needed that more than anything, I squeezed my eyes shut to try find sleep. When I'd woken up, I was way too excited that I'd gotten a job and rushed to check if it was early enough for me to head to work already. But it was just four in the morning. I tried sleeping back, but it was obviously to no use. Finally, I got out of bed at six in the morning, brushed my teeth and took a quick shower before putting on my clothes. It was a green shirt with dark blue jean trouser, and topped it up with blue sneakers. I left my hair to fall on waves over my shoulders, and applied a small amount of make-up. Nirman had offered to take me to work again which I was really grateful for because I didn't want to have to take the bus that could delay me. Neither did I want to have to take a cab or anything. The latter could be a money consumer. He came to pick me up by seven, then drove me to the place where the interview had been held. A driver had told me that he was assigned to drive me to ‘the master's house' (as he'd put it). Well, who was I to object (not that I planned on objecting). He took me to his car where we entered then he drove me to an even bigger mansion. I was beyond awed when I sighted the place. It was beautiful. Especially with the nature that surrounded it. There were fountains around, beautiful butterflies flapping their beautiful wings around, and a beautiful pool that added to the beauty of the place. Whoever lived in the mansion had a great taste, because the place was perfect. The process of entry to the mansion hadn't taken as much time as the previous day, and when I was inside the house, I was even more awed. It was way bigger than any other place I'd been to. The tiles were probably enough to buy Lucy's apartment. The chairs obviously cost thousands of dollars. There were beautiful paintings that graced the white walls and gold chandeliers caught my eyes that I wondered how much it'd cost if one sold one of them. “Alix.” The woman who'd interviewed me, strutted towards me, snapping me from my wonderland. “Good day ma'am.” I greeted with a small bow. “Okay, now that you're here, I'm going to pitch you in on what you'll be doing.” She sounded like she'd said that same line tons of times. “Okay ma'am.” The woman started walking, so I followed beside her. “First of all, you should call me Mrs Alison.” The woman, who I now knew to be Alison, started. “Okay Mrs Alison.” “Now, the person you'll be taking care of is my son, Triston Anderson,” she continued, “all you should know is that he's crippled at the moment and you'll need to deal with him with patience.” “Okay.” “Ensure he eats his complete three square meal,” we reached a staircase and began climbing it, “there's a particular meal he eats every Wednesday morning which I'll teach you how to make, and you must grab at the first attempt.” “Okay.” “Give him his medicines as prescribed,” we'd reached the last step and were heading down a hall, “ensure you don't do anything to piss him off.” “Okay.” “You're going to work for a week, and if he doesn't fire you within that week, you'll move in.” “Move in?” I asked in surprise. She stared at me with an indifferent expression. “Why? You don't want to live with him?” “Of course not, I will live here.” I had never felt like throwing someone into my arms as much as I wanted to do to Alison, but I resisted that urge. The woman didn't know what favor she'd done for me. If I was able to last a week, I'd finally be able to move out of Lucy's irritating house and live in a mansion. A mansion!!! This was my second time walking inside a mansion, and in a week, there's a possibility that I'd be living in that mansion. Woah!!! “Good, and most importantly,” she continued, then stopped in front of a door, causing me to stop also, “report everything about him to me, okay?” I nodded. “Okay,” then contemplated asking, but decided to, “may I ask how much I'll be paid.” Alison reached for the door knob, “if you're able to last a month,” she sounded like that was not a possibility, “you'll be paid seven thousand dollars every month.” Then she swung the door open, to reveal a man in a wheelchair backing us. Although I couldn't see his face, I could already sense the wealth emitting from him. The black wheelchair probably cost millions of dollars because it was fantastic. The chair began rotating slowly, revealing the figure slowly. Why was he acting so dramatic to reveal his face? This wasn't a movie or novel. Geez. To make things more dramatic, when he'd turned halfway, the reflection of the sun from the window had to cast a silhouette of his figure. But the drama was probably preparing me for the worse because my eyes widened when he'd fully turned to face us. Oh no no no no. Shoot. Oh s**t. Why was I seeing the man who'd argued with me the previous week? Was he crippled? I'd been too mad to notice he was in a wheelchair. Oh geez. He held my gaze and immediately, recognition swept past his expression. Oh damn it, he recognized me. I'd certainly lost the job. s**t.
