Ruby's POV
I stretched lazily on the bed, and a moan escaped my mouth, but my brain froze immediately when I realized what I had just done. I could feel my consciousness, what's that?
‘What is this? Am I alive? That can't be right’ I mulled in my head, and I tried to pry my open to see if it was true.
The brightness in the room almost blinded my eyes when I suddenly pried my eyes, and I closed it back immediately. After a while, I opened my eyes, and I didn't close it this time.
“I could see the roof of my room,” I mumbled blindly, and I turned my head to look around to make sure that I was in my room. I was surprised to find out that I was really in my room.
But how am I here? Did father find me, and bring me home? I wondered, and I decided to leave my bed, but I noticed that my body was strangely alright.
“What is this? It doesn't feel like I was hurt, it was more like I just woke up from a beautiful sleep,” I mumbled, and I looked at my arm that was injected and I found out that it was clean.
Strange!
“If I am not wrong, this means that I didn't get hurt, right?” I mumbled, and a realization jolted into my mind.
I was about to die, but I didn't die, I could only come up with the best theory, and which is that…
“I was reborn!” I screamed, and I jumped out of my bed not believing what just happened.
How could I have been reborn? Is that not a joke?
I checked the calendar, and I was surprised to find out that it was true. I was reborn, and I am not 20 years old now, but….
“If I could remember currently, this should be when I was still 18 years old and..” I was saying, but my maid barged into my room, and I was surprised to see Ella.
“Ella is that you?” I called with tears in my eyes, as I walked closer to her, and she nodded her head, eyeing me weirdly.
“Yes, and what are you doing not getting ready for your 18th birthday?” she asked, but I didn't reply to her, as I went to hug her.
“Thank you! Thank you for being alive!” I beamed, and I knew that she was probably confused with the nonsense that I was spurting but she could not blame me.
It was around the time this year that Ella was murdered by some guys at the club, but knowing that I could prevent that now welled up my heart.
“You are choking me, but this is better than that friend of yours, acting so fake in the living room,” Ella scoffs as I disengaged from the hug, and ears perked hearing her words.
Nicole was here? Remembering what she did to me earlier, I don't think I could stand her so I decided to tell her off. I still need to think of a good way to tell her off.
“Tell her I don't want to see anyone, I am going to meet her at the ball,” I said dismissively.
“What? You don't want to see your friend!” Ella shrieked, and I wondered why she was so happy hearing me say that.
But I remembered that Ella was never a fan of Nicole, but I didn't know the reason why back then, but now I could not help but suspect that she must have known something back then.
“Yes, so tell her to go to the hall, I am going to meet everyone over there,” I instructed, and Ella bolted out of the room like she was happy to relay that message.
I walked towards the mirror, and I looked at myself in the mirror, and the youthfulness of my teenage years graced my beauty, and I could not help but be flustered.
I was back to the time that everything started, and knowing that I could stop whatever that was going to happen to me makes me happy.
***************************************
The starry sky was accompanied by the moon, and I made my way to the car as I walked towards the hotel where the guests were already waiting.
I could remember this day vividly, and I could even recite the names of dignitaries who were present at the party. Being the daughter of the pack's Beta was a huge flex, but that was the reason I thought everyone loved me.
“My lady, why are you not going in?” Ella asked, and I turned around, beaming her a smile. I wanted to tell her that I was a bit nervous because the decision I was going to make tonight was going to change my fate.
“I am going to be the one to rewrite my fate, and no one else,” I chanted, and I walked into the ballroom.
I was greeted by different people wishing me a happy birthday, and not long after Sergio, and Nicole came to my side…together which wasn't surprising.
My hands balled into a fist looking at the two hypocrites, but I calmed myself. I have so many days to be angry at them.
Sergio was cladded in a blue tuxedo, complimenting the dress that Nicole was putting on, and they could pass for a couple. Sergio looked good in the suits though, but I knew that the man he was doesn't deserve such handsomeness.
“Happy eighteenth birthday, Ruby! I like your dress, can I also get another just like this?” Nicole beamed, and I scoffed seeing that she wasn't changing.
“Really? You must really be obsessed with everything that is mine!” I beamed, and she looked flustered hearing that, but before she could defend herself I walked away.
Sergio follows me, and tries to engage me in a conversation but ignores him.
“Did you want to have this dance?” Sergio asked, but I ignored him and I kept looking straight ahead while trying to submerge the urge to twist his neck, but I still tried to be civil.
“Are you perhaps angry that I didn't call you…” Sergio was saying but he stopped when my father got to the stage to make an announcement.
“Good evening people! I know we are all here to celebrate with my little princess, Ruby, but this is also a formality to announce the engagement with Ramos' family so princess can you step up,” my father asked me to come up to the stage.
“Let's talk after the announcement,” he says confidently like he knew I was going to choose him, and I scoff.
Such arrogance!
I walked towards the stage, and I wondered how I was going to change my fate, but that was when my eyes lingered on Brian, Sergio's brother standing at the other end of the hall all alone.
In my memory, Brain was the Alpha's second son, but he didn't get along with his brother. He was pretty a loner, but he was polite to me.
A polite man could do it, I mulled it over and walked to the stage.
“Welcome princess, and happy birthday,” my father whispered to me, handing me a mic.
“Who is going to be your mate?” my father asked, and I looked back at the people.“It could be anyone in the Ramos family, right?” I asked, and the crowd burst into laughter.
“Yes, but why are you asking the princess? We all know who you are going to choose after all,” he says, and I sneered.
“Then, I chose…Brain Ramos to be my mate,” I said, and silence filled the room.
