Chapter 3

RUBY POV

The whole room fell into silence hearing my words, they didn't believe I didn't pick Sergio since the marital arrangement was between my family and Sergio's family. They were all expecting me to pick Sergio since we were close.

But I don't want to do that. I don't want to be a fool for Sergio again in this life, I don't think I could ever want to be associated with him, and that was the reason I picked his brother.

“What? Are you kidding?” my father asked, but I shook my head. “No, I am not. I chose Brain Ramos as my mate, do you have a problem with that father?” I asked, and my father shook his head.

I looked at Sergio's face after what I said, and he looked like he just heard some rather unpleasant news. Of course, the news wasn't pleasant to him.

“Brain, can you come up?” I asked, looking at the man, who looked like he didn't understand a bit of what was going on.

I thought that he wasn't going to answer me, but he was quite swift. He walked towards the stage, almost falling in the process, which earned a peal of mockery laughter from the crowd.

“Hi,” he mumbled on the stage, and I smiled at him. Even though my father doesn't look pleased he made the announcement leaving me to deal with the crowd.

After some time the party was over, and I went back to the mansion but I was surprised to find Sergio waiting for me right at my door.

“What are you doing here?” I asked to walk past the interview room, but he dragged me back.

“Why did you do that? Why did you pick my brother over me?” he asked, and I rolled my eyes at him. “Why should I not do that? Your brother is a sweet man, I don't think he deserves the love that he has..” I trailed off when Sergio slammed my body against the wall.

I winced in pain at the contact but he wasn't letting me go, and I waited for him to speak while trying to tell myself that I shouldn't kill the Alpha's son for whatever grief that I have.

“Are you kidding me? Brain is a sweet boy? What about me?” he asked.

You were a sweet boy too, or that was what I thought until you and your lover stabbed me in the back.

“I don't care what you think, Sergio, but that's it, you are not going to be my mate, your brother is so I hope you are not going to ever disturb me again!” I rasped, clenching my teeth against each other.

I followed him out while trying to avoid him, but I was surprised to see him going towards Nicole's room, which she always stays in whenever she comes for a visit, and my heart hammered against my chest in fear.

“That is not possible, he could not be going to her right?” I murmured hoping that I was wrong, but the memories of the time I caught them back in my past life flooded my eyes.

The scene of Sergio ramming into her, while she moaned out his name would forever traumatize me.

I was also wrong this time, as I watched Sergio walk into Nicole's room, but fortunately for me, and unfortunately the door was not locked.

Nicole kissed him, stopping his word, and my chest tightened seeing that she initiated the advance, and I was hoping that he was going to push her away.

I watched as Sergio picked her up, and dropped her on the bed, and started taking off her clothes. I wanted to turn away knowing that they were not going to stop, but I believed that Sergio was going to come back to his senses.

I watched as the two made out, and I turned away when I saw Sergio taking off his pants, but I ran into something hard.

I was surprised to find out that there was a wall at the place before, but when I raised my head I was shocked that it was a rather firm chest.

“I am sorry…I..” I was saying, but the man hushed my words, and I realized that it was Brain.

Brain dragged me away from the balcony, and I knew that he must have had questions about what happened in the ballroom earlier, but I didn't know what to explain to him.

Was he even going to understand?

“Can you start talking? Why did you do that at the ball today?” he asked, and I shivered as the cold wind flapped my hair, but I knew that the poor boy needed an explanation about what I did.

“I didn't do anything, I just wanted to…” I was saying, but he cut me off. “You are madly in love with Sergio so I am asking why you chose me!” he roared, and I almost jumped off the balcony in fear.

I wasn't close with Brain before, but being confronted by him somehow gives me a little chill.

“I was…I was madly in love with him,” I said, hoping that was going to be enough but it wasn't. “Really? Does that mean you like me now?” he asked, but I shook my head.

It wasn't happening, how like him when I barely knew him.

“No, but I just want you to…” I was saying, but he cut me off. “Are you using me?” he asked, and my heart skipped a beat hearing his words.

He just hit the nail on the head, and I was ashamed to be caught by him so quickly.

“Why.. how..you..” I stuttered like a dummy, and I wanted to run away at the moment. “It seems like I was right, but why?” he asked.

“I am sorry if I offended you, but I don't think that I have an answer to your question,” I said, turning around to leave, but his words halted my steps.

“Then use me well!” he bellowed, and I was confused. I turned around slowly, and the man got closer to me. “What did you say?” I asked.

“If you want to use me, then use me well,” he mumbled, and I was confused about what he just said.

“What did you mean?” I asked, but I was dumbfounded when Brain suddenly kissed me.

What! Why did he kiss me?
