A'Niyla sat at her desk looking at the time on her computer, seeing it said five o'clock p.m. she dreaded going home, it was a Monday and she knew her fiancé Derrick would be home before her. Derrick ran his own gym, while A'Niyla was an Interior decorator. She had a small office building downtown. Both being so successful so young was a shock to many people once they found out how old they were. Niyla's parents passed away when she was in her first year of college, they left her a huge sum of money she was able to open up her shop and finish college early. Derrick talked Niyla into helping him financially to start his own gym. She put up 95% of the funds to open it, Derrick had a little money saved already. Technically Niyla owned the majority of the gym.
- A'Niyla
Hearing my assistant knock on my door scared me slightly, looking up at her I noticed her eyes were red and puffy like she'd been crying. " Excuse me Ms. Davis I didn't mean to interrupt, but I was wondering if you no longer needed me today I could take off a little early. You don't have any more appointments for the day." Kelsey said as she wiped a tear that was falling down her cheek.
Kelsey sweetheart are you okay? Are you crying?
She then fully stepped into my office holding her stomach with one hand and still wiping at her tears with another. " I don't want to bother you with my problems. I'm okay thank you though." Kelsey said sounding extremely weak.
Kelsey you have been working with me for about two years now, stop calling me Ms. Davis and call me Niyla first of all and please come here and sit down tell me what's wrong please maybe I can help you. I said motioning for her to sit on the couch I had in the corner of my office. finally giving in she sat down on the couch, grabbing one of the decorative pillows I had gently putting it on her lap, to cover her stomach. Kelsey was a very beautiful girl I met her on my last day of class at college, I was going to turn in my last assignment and she was coming out of the financial aid office crying and extremely upset. She ended up bumping into me causing me to drop my bag. After Turing in my last assignment to my professor, we ended up walking out at the same time. We talked for about three hours, which lead to me agreeing to pay for her college, and in return, she would be my assistant at my office. She was extremely thankful and is basically like a little sister to me.Sitting down next to her I put my hand on her lap causing her to look up at me and completely break down crying. Although she has worked with me for about two years I don't know anything about her family. She is very private when it comes to them, which I understand completely because I rarely ever talk about my parents.
Waiting for her to calm down slightly, I finally am able to ask what happened.
You can talk to me, I'm here for you, and anything I can do to help you know I will. I said hoping that she'd finally let me in.
" Ms. Dav... I mean Niyla, well I'm I'm I'm pregnant she stuttered." Beginning to cry again.
Kelsey stops crying why are you so upset, being pregnant is a beautiful thing. Why aren't you happy?
" I don't know how to tell you this and I probably shouldn't even be saying anything but ... ( she began to cry hysterically) my stepfather has been raping me almost every night since I was a child".
I was completely shocked and speechless, why didn't she come to me sooner, she could've lived with me I would have gladly taken her in. I mean my living situation is far from good but I would've made it work.
Kelsey, I don't know what to say, but I am truly sorry honey, and whatever I can do to help you I will. How far along are you? Does he know?
" I'm only a few weeks, I've been feeling extremely sleepy even more than normal so at lunch today I took a test, it was positive. I can't keep this baby, I don't want to keep this baby, I just can't. I don't have any money to get the abortion."
Even though I was paying Kelsey's tuition, I insisted on still paying her weekly, I knew it wasn't a lot but it still should be enough for her to save some money.
Kelsey what happens to the money you get paid from here, I questioned not trying to sound completely insensitive.
" My mom makes me give her my entire check to help pay for the bills, so I don't have a single dollar to my name, I still can't thank you enough for agreeing to pay for my school, my mom thinks I got a scholarship."
I'll give you the money and take you if that's what you really want. I'll help and support you in any way I can. You remind me a lot of myself when I was your age. ( laughing slightly) I know you are only a few years younger but still. We can close the office for a few days and you can stay with me even if you want.
"What about your fiancé, I don't want to put you out."
Girlllllll you are fine and Derrick will be more than okay with it, we don't have to tell him a thing if you aren't comfortable with it, we can just make something up! Listen, make the appointment and tell me how much you need and we can go from there. I'll be with you the entire way through this I promise!
" You are truly an amazing person A'Niyla you really are, I'm so blessed to have you in my life," Kelsey said leaning in a hugging me.
You are welcome honey, but Kels I don't think it's a good idea for you to go back to your house, you shouldn't have to go through that. Do you want to stay with me or I can even get you a hotel if you just want to be alone tonight. I asked looking at her, knowing I'd definitely want to take a hot bath and be alone if I were in her situation.
Kelsey finally agreed to let me put her in a hotel for the week while she got everything situated with the appointment, I made a mental note to stop by the phone store and get her a new phone tomorrow on my way to the office. When I was done with work I was going to take her shopping to by all new clothes so she didn't have to step foot back in that house.
After locking up the office and setting the alarm we both hoped into my black Jeep. The ride to the hotel was not long around fifteen minutes from the office, we didn't talk which I completely understood.
It was now going on eight o'clock and I was just getting on the highway to head home, we lived about a half-hour away from my office, I typically wouldn't mind the drive but I was exhausted and didn't want to hear Derrick complain about why I was home so late. Pulling up to our three-story four bedrooms home I noticed all the lights were on, my phone had died around five when Kelsey came in my office I didn't plan on staying as long as I did. Parking in the driveway I slowly got out of my Jeep grabbing my laptop and my backpack. Opting to go through the garage door rather than the front, there was a better chance of me not running into Dj by going through the kitchen.
