Agnes’s POV
With my chin lifted high, I strode toward Theo, my heart pounding like a war drum in my chest. Each step felt heavier than the last, but I forced my shoulders back, my eyes blazing with defiance.
No way in hell was this union happening not while I still drew breath. Snowflake and Theo? My Theo? The boy whose smile had haunted my dreams since the day I knew him? Hell no.
Not my crush. Not the one person who made my heart stutter every time he glanced my way.
Snowflake’s parents had taken me in when I was just a shivering, wide-eyed orphan of eight, my parents stolen by a rogue attack. They’d clothed me, fed me, loved me like their own. I was grateful—truly, I was.
But gratitude could only stretch so far when envy coiled like a serpent in my gut. Snowflake, with her radiant smile and effortless charm, had always been the sun in their world, while I lingered in her shadow, a mere omega, unnoticed, unremarkable.
Even without a wolf, Snowflake was magnetic. Her laughter could light up a room, and those extraordinary claws glinting like polished obsidian
drew gasps of awe from everyone. I’d spent years watching her, my chest tight with jealousy.
She’d confided in me once, her voice trembling, that she was wolfless a sacred family secret she’d shared because I was “family.” But that secret only fueled my resentment.
How could someone so flawed still shine so brightly? How could she, without a wolf, still claim Theo’s heart as his fated mate?
Today, I’d had enough. I couldn’t bear it anymore, the way her laughter rang in my ears, the way her parents doted so much on her despite being wolfless, the way she made friends with that hidden flaw and now she'll have Theo?. She couldn’t have it all. Not Theo. Not the pack’s adoration. Not the life I’d always dreamed of.
But I had to be careful. I couldn’t let the family see the darkness festering inside me, the ugly, gnawing insecurity that whispered I’d never be enough. I had to play this smart.
As I reached Theo’s side, I caught his gaze those piercing blue eyes that made my knees weak. He nodded, his voice steady but commanding.
“Agnes, tell them what you told me.” I froze, my throat tightening.
The entire pack was watching, their eyes boring into me. My fingers twitched, and I instinctively scratched at my neck, feigning confusion to buy time.
“Y-Yes?” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. Theo’s brow furrowed, his tone sharper now.
“Don’t play coy, Agnes. Tell them. Tell the pack what you told me about Snowflake.”
The air grew thick with anticipation. Murmurs rippled through the crowd, and I caught the glint of phone cameras flashing to life. This was it—the moment that would unravel everything.
My heart raced, but I turned away from the family’s faces, unable to bear their disappointment. Instead, I faced the spokesman of the Moon Goddess, his silver robes shimmering under the torchlight, his expression unreadable. I cleared my throat, forcing my voice to steady.
“Yes, Theo’s right,” I began, my words trembling at first but gaining strength. “Snowflake… she’s wolfless. She’s been hiding it all these years. I...I only found out because she trusted me, because we’re sisters. But I couldn’t stay silent anymore.
Not when it concerns the pack’s future… and Theo’s.”
A collective gasp swept through the crowd. The murmurs grew louder, a chaotic symphony of shock and condemnation. I stole a glance at Snowflake, standing with her parents near the front.
Her face crumpled, her golden eyes wide with betrayal. Her mother clutched her arm, tears brimming, while her father’s jaw tightened, his gaze fixed on me with a mix of disbelief and pain.
My chest twisted with guilt, but I shoved it down. This is for the pack. For Theo. For me.
“I did it because I care about her!” I cried, letting my voice crack for effect. Tears welled in my eyes, and I let them fall, knowing they’d sway the crowd.
“I didn’t want her to be exposed by the alpha, to be cast out! I love her like a sister, but the truth… it had to come out. For her safety, for all of us!”
The lie tasted bitter on my tongue, but I sold it with every ounce of conviction I could muster. Inside, my insecurities screamed. She’s always had everything—friends, attention. Why should I stay in the shadows? Why should I let her win?
I’d never be as radiant as Snowflake, never as loved. But I could take this from her. I could take Theo.
The crowd’s murmurs swelled into a roar. Some shouted accusations, others whispered pity.
Phones were raised high, capturing every second of the spectacle. This would go viral, I knew it. The humiliation would cling to Snowflake like a curse, and maybe just maybe Theo would see her for what she was: unworthy.
But then, a voice cut through the chaos, raw and fierce. “No! I’m not wolfless!”
My heart stopped. Snowflake tore free from her parents’ grasp, her petite frame trembling with defiance. Her golden eyes blazed, and those claws, those damn claws flashed as she stepped forward.
The crowd parted, stunned into silence. Where she found the strength, I didn’t know. She’d always been delicate, fragile without her wolf. But now? Now she looked like a storm ready to break.
"Agnes, how could you?” she cried, her voice cracking with hurt. “You’re my sister! I trusted you with my deepest secret, and you... you lied! I’m not wolfless. I’ve never been wolfless!”
The pack erupted again, voices clashing in a frenzy of confusion. Some condemned her, others hesitated, unsure who to believe. My pulse thundered in my ears.
She’s lying. She has to be. I’d never seen her wolf out, not once in all our years together. If she had a wolf, wouldn’t she have shown it by now? Wouldn’t she have proven herself?
“Then prove it, Snowflake!” I snapped, my voice sharper than I intended. The words spilled out, fueled by years of resentment.
“If you’re not wolfless, show us! Shift right now, in front of the pack, in front of the Moon Goddess’s spokesman! Let’s see this wolf you've been hiding all these years,I want to see how beautiful she is too". I added for more emotional effect.
Her parents gasped, and Theo’s eyes darted between us, his expression unreadable. Snowflake’s face paled, but her jaw clenched, her claws flexing at her sides. The crowd leaned in, breathless, waiting for her to falter.
My heart raced with a twisted mix of fear and triumph.
She can’t do it. She’s bluffing. I’ve won. But deep inside, a sliver of doubt gnawed at me. What if she wasn’t lying? What if she did shift, right here, right now?
The thought made my stomach lurch. I’d always been the overlooked one, the omega with no family, no power, no light of my own. If Snowflake proved me wrong, I’d lose everything—Theo, the pack’s respect, my place in this world.
“Snowflake,” I said, softer now, my voice dripping with false concern. “I only did this because I love you. I didn’t want you to live a lie. If you can shift, then do it. Prove me wrong. Please.”
Her eyes met mine, and for a moment, I saw the sister I’d grown up with
the one who’d braided my hair, who’d shared her secrets, who’d called me family.
But that girl was gone, replaced by a fire I didn’t recognize. She took a step forward, her voice steady despite the tears streaking her cheeks.
“I will,” she said, her words ringing with a strength that sent a chill down my spine. “I’ll show you all.” The crowd held its breath.
My hands trembled at my sides, and I fought to keep my composure. She can’t. She won’t. But as Snowflake raised her head to the moonlight, her claws glinting like stars, a flicker of fear ignited in my chest. What had I done?
