Journey into the past

"Come on darling we are going to be late" Lena's mother called. It was a sunny day and they were going in a pique-nique. It's been a while since they had time out as mother and daughter and Lena missed their time together. "I am coming, just a second mom", Lena replied. she got dressed and went down the stairs to where her mother was. They are ready to go. They rode the car and started singing happy songs. It was a perfect day. They arrived their destination. It was a mythical place, a forest with trees and flowers surrounding them. Spring is the best season of all, thought Lena. she opened the bag and pulled a mat to sit on , then brought the sandwiches and handed her mother one. They ate in silence engulfed with the calmness of the nature. Lena sighed in satisfaction and happyness. They spent the whole day in the forest, they ate, laughed and played. and when it was time to go, they packed everything and rode back home. They were on their way back, laughing, talking and smiling when suddenly lights glow in their face and a hard truck hit their car, crashing it. Lena could see the scene infront of her in slow motiong just like watching a movie. The car was rolling over, windows glasses were flying all over them and then she hit her head very hard and black out. When she opened her eyes, she was in a strange room full of light. Tubes attached to her hands, that's when it all came back to her. The accident and her mother. she must see her mother. " Please God let her be ok" Lena prayed. she snatched the tubes and went outside the room. A nurse saw her and came to her asking her to go back inside. Lena asked her again and again about her mother without getting her reply. A doctor saw her and informed her .about her mother's situation. She was sitting on the hospital's floor, her head burried between her knees and the doctor's words echoed in her head: "We made all we can do as doctors ? why the words seem odd to her? only few days ago they were singing. Only few days ago her mom's laughters filled the house. There is something wrong. Her mom is healthy, in good shape and still young. Thinking about her best moments with her mom, her raised her head from her knees opened her teary eyes, and suddenly she saw her again at the end of the hallway, looking directly at her. Then, within a second she just ran away. As a reflex, Lena stood up and ran after her, but couldn't find her." I must be hallicinating" Lena thought. It is not the time for her mind to play tricks. she has to check on my mother. As she entered her mother's room her heart ached seeing her lying on the bed attached to all these machines, eyes closed and so weak. Her mother is strong, she survived civil war, she survived a blast in the city and survived an abusive husband. She even hit him back when he slapped her. Her mother is a survivor and she damn sure that she will find her way back and Lena will make sure of it. she inherited her mother's strength and together they will make it through. she knelt beside the bed, took her mother's hand between hers and told her how they will get over this, how together they can beat all obstacles. she reminded her about their good times together and how the survived the horribles incidents. Days became weeks and no response from her mom. Still attached to the machines with the beeping sound. she called her name and tried again to wake her up but failed to. The hospital became Lena's new home. Every morning she woke up get her coffee from the hospital's cafeteria, sit beside her mother's bed and speak to her and at night she reads books for her. Her mother loves books. One day she was getting my morning coffee when she saw her again, her identical, she ran after her and to her surprise she didn't ran away. She was standing there waiting for her. The first time Lena saw her identical was 3 months ago when she was at the market with her mom. Her identical just stood there looking at her. She looks just like her except she was not 23 years but an older version of her, same curled red hair, same hazle eyes but with wrinckles, same height. Then she started seeing her from time to timed at different places and whenever she sees her, her identical just runs away. she always thought that she was overreacting and it is insane to think that an identical person of her is following her. But this time she stood there waiting for Lena. It is like that her identical was waiting to talk to her. "We need to talk", her identical said. "who are you and what do you want? why you are stalking me" Lena replied. "let's sit and talk", the identical said. Lena walked back to her place in the cafeteria, put her coffee cup on the table, crossed her arms and waited her identical to take a seat. "I know what I will say will sound crazy but I came back from future. I am you", the girl said.
