A worn-out paper containing the pictures and persons to reach of the missing royals flew.
Nineteen years later…
I hopped down my horse.
“Nisrieve, I have never failed to beat you.” I gently slapped his arm. He laughed.
“This is just your lucky day, James. Tomorrow—“
“Yes, yes. Yesterday is my lucky day, and so is last week and last month. Who knows? Maybe tomorrow would be my unlucky day and still, you can’t beat me.”
We started walking towards James’s house. “Hey you know I can’t join you. Your Moma hates me so much she can kill me.” James just laughed.
“I bet not. Maybe on Moma’s past life, she’s someone you owe and didn’t pay or you’re a predator and you wanted so much to eat her. Karma is real, man. Karma… is…”
“What? I looked at the place he’s looking. “You like Jane?”
“No! No! I like her friend Mayliene. Don’t you know that? ... hey, can you see those bouncing—“
“James! I thought you’re about to decrease your dirty thoughts!”
“Who told you thinking about bouncing bags is dirty? Maybe it’s what you think. I’m purely innocent.”
“Oh really?” There’s a loud bang of pots and pans inside James’s house.
“James! Why are you still here? Ain’t you coming to school? I heard Calshire high is training knights and – Nisrieve. Oh well, what can I tell? I have a hardheaded son and a mouse that follows my cheese. You!” She pointed a pan at my direction. “Haven’t I told you to stay away from my son? I can’t risk hearing rumours about—“
“Moma…”
“No James! This friend of yours is a thief! A child with no mother with a murderer butcher father from the black market!” James started pushing me away. “I even heard…”
“Bye Moma! I want two bowls of noodles when I get home okay? Thanks!!” James yelled when we got away.
“Tsk. Tsk.” Moma said as she shakes her head.
“Mayliene! Want to ride horses tomorrow morning?”
“I something to finish, James.”
“Next morning?”
“Shut up.”
“He switched his position and clung at Jane. “So… how many girls knew that Nisrieve likes you?” I nudged James.
“Stop it, James.” James, what are you doing?
“What should I stop? Telling Jane that you drew her at Calshire high’s rule book and been punished? Or the one where you picked flowers for her one morning but her lion ate it? Or is it…?”
“James, I’ve never done any of those. You say things like that every day yet you can’t prove I’ve done such a thing.”
“One of these days, I’ll give her proof. You’ll see Nisrieve. I’ll have that proof shown.”
“Jane, is there any cheese left?”
“Well yes. I spared some for your sandwiches.”
“Well yes. I spared some for your sandwiches. Jane, is there any cheese left? You two are too sweet I might get sick. When would the two of you be using endearments?”
Jae started to separate from our group. “You wouldn’t come with us?” says Mayliene.
“No. I need to feed my pets and stuff.”
“Just watch at our match at least,” I said. Jane smiled and so did James, but his smile looks more like: I know what you’re planning to do and I have something to plan for your plan to be ruined. Rather than: I’d support the two of you. I shivered at the thought.
“Maybe some other time... And after that, come over for your cheese, Nisrieve. I’d be waiting.” She left then after.
I threw a bag of raw meat at our wooden table.
“Not much but I think if I hunt today, there’ll be enough for the butcher and—“
“Jane! Jane! I need me… Jane…” came a weak voice from Mother’s room. I drooped everything from my hands and rushed at her room. I saw Mother struggling to breathe so I ran to fetch her medicine and gave it to her.
“Mother, why hadn’t you told me, you have no more medicine? What would I do if your illness attacked you once again? We’re far from the village and we have no neighbours. We’re far from Calshire Mother…”
“I’m sorry. I forgot.”
“Nevermind. I would buy one when Nisrieve comes”
I went out of our house and sat in front of our door. Sunset came and I began feeding my pets, and so did nightfall but… no Nisrieve came.A worn out paper containing the pictures and persons to reach of the missing royals flew.
