As soon as Ezra woke up, there was the aroma of freshly ground coffee and the gentle sound of strings playing in the distance. He hadn't woken up in years with his guitar as the only source of sleep. This was an unusual development. Why? I felt both comfort and terror.
With laziness, he lifted his legs over the couch edge in the back room of Orion's Strings, where Liam had given him away for the night. And ran a hand through his messy curls, looking around. Soft morning light shone through the shop, illuminating instruments on its walls with a golden glow. With his violin under his chin, Liam was by the counter, lost in his own music.
Ezra couldn't help but smile. When Liam was playing, there was something that captivated him. He lost his usual quietness and adopted a force that seemed to pull the entire room into his orbit.
The spell was broken as Ezra called out, "Good morning.".
After the violin, Liam lowered it slightly. A slight blush arose on his cheeks. "Good morning.". I didn't mean to disturb you.
"You didn't," Ezra declared, grabbing his guitar. "I was fortunate that I didn’t participate and completely outshine you." What happened next?
Liam's expression calmed down, his twitching. "I want you to give it a shot.".
"The challenge was embraced," Ezra said with a playful hand.
A chaotic and beautiful melody filled the shop with the two musicians who had just come together for a spontaneous duet. Entourage attendees halted to hear, some cheering as they watched on. Although not flawless, it felt authentic, as if the beginning of something new had been initiated.'
Ezra settled in Eclipse Ridge for the next few weeks. Helping at the shop, he had customers with his friendly smile and quick moves. He commenced teaching the guitar, drawing in a younger audience who were eager to learn from the town's latest entertainer.
Being stuck in a location was not an easy experience for Ezro. There were times when he felt like a bird in an enclosure, unoccupied and restless. The thought of packing up and leaving was tingling at him, especially on quiet nights when his past seemed to be taking a toll on him.
Liam observed the way Ezra's eyes would gaze towards the horizon, his fingers repetitively and mournfully strumming along the same melody. This was remarkable. The fear of Ezra leaving him, which had been a familiar one to Liam, caused him to feel pain in his chest.
Liam made the decision to speak up while shutting down the shop one evening..
"Ezra," he began to murmur, "are you feeling content here?".
"I am, of course," Ezra declared to him with a surprised look. Why wouldn't I be?”.
Liam remained silent, saying, "I don't know.
Ezra lowered his guitar and breathed a deep breath. "I'm not talking about being unhappy, Liam.". The new approach is to remain in one place and allow myself to become attached. Scary, even.”.
With a deep sorrow, Liam asked if it was his fault for not moving forward.
“Undoubtedly not,” Ezra declared with a firm nod.
It's quite challenging, don't you think? The guy who leaves things alone is always the one I’ve been with.
With a gentle whisper, Liam gazed at him and declared, "You don't have to run away. Please." The speaker was. Not from me. Not from this.”.
Ezra's smile was not as bright as his, but he said: "I'll give it a shot, Liam.". I promise I'll try.”.
The relationship between them became stronger with the passage of time. Their days were spent converting Orion's Strings into a bustling hub for musicians and dreamers, and their nights were filled with music, laughter, stolen glances, all the while. It was an experience worth experiencing.
They both had scars that remained undisclosed over time.' Liam was still frightened by the prospect of being left alone, while Ezra faced the burden of guilt related to a past they had not yet disclosed. Two souls fought for peace in a world that often seemed out of sync.
Even though they didn't have all the answers, it was evident that they were creating a song worth fighting for.
