Chapter 13
With nothing else to be done other than wait for Dr Frankel to make his move, Scott and I left. I was sure Mum and Dad would be wondering what was taking us so long. It wasn’t until we were halfway there that I remembered Dr Frankel saying something about him having delayed Scott to keep him away from the Vision Centre.
So I asked him about it.
‘It was nothing. Don’t worry about it.’
The trouble was, the tightness of his voice said it was something. ‘You need to tell me what happened, Scott. I need to know.’
He heaved a sigh. ‘Fine. I got suspended.’
‘What? Why?’
‘Detective Johnson found out I was using my leave to protect you and I got ordered to the station to explain myself. He wouldn’t listen to a word I said and, as I broke the rules, I was suspended pending an inves
