I tried to move, to get away, but someone held me down as I felt pressure against my left eye.
No, I couldn’t let him take them.
A loud groan sounded nearby, and at first I thought it was coming from me.
Then Dr Frankel said, ‘Lachlan, the nurse is coming around. Take care of her.’
The pressure against my chest eased as Lachlan went to see to the nurse, but I still couldn’t move. I let out a whimper as the pressure against my left eye increased.
‘I’m sorry, Belinda, but this is the best way to preserve your abilities. Without eyes to distract you, you will be able to focus more on your duties. You and Lachlan will make a wonderful team.’
