1. CHAPTER ONE -- JANA WAKE UP!
CHAPTER ONE – Wake up I open my eyes which were still heavy from last night. Where on earth am i ? I had too much wine. Large curtains black silken block out the natural sunlight coming in from the huge window panes. My head pulsates mildly as I roll off the bed and onto the floor. I’m dressed in a flimsy silk nightie that hugs my slender curves. I grab a morning coat near by and stumble towards the door. I was not supposed to be in his room. I look at myself in the mirror. My face reddens at the sight. I looked like i had just been knocked by a bus and drugged through a jungle. My body was marked with all types of hickeys on my neck, my breasts, my stomach, even my tighs. I clench them. The door slams open and i jerk right up. My husband, Vincent Kensington walks in. He’s dressed in one of his many custom made Italian suits. He had a neat haircut. Even his mere presence exuded a subtle allurance of wealth and power. It was unfair that he was both handsome and wealthy. “This look suits you very well, too bad you hide it a lot.” His rough husky voice says. “You might as well embed it into your memory. It’s never happening again.” I turn away from the mirror, my chin lifted up, and not bothering to fix my golden blonde bed hair. His deep laughter rang through the room. “Are you sure ? After the way you climbed my bed, and spread your legs for me begging, I highly doubt it.” The corners of his lip turns up in pure amusement. He was clearly enjoying this. I watch him like a hawk as he walks towards the sleek dark marble table near the bed. He pick up the wine bottle from yesterday. A litte deep hue swishes at the bottom and he inhales, closing his eyes, as if remembering the details of yesternight.. Pervert “Believe it or not, i was not in my right mind. Something was in that wine.” I fold my arms across my chest. “Are you insinuating something ?” He c***s a brow. “Think what you may. I don’t really care anymore.” I look at the file beside the bottle, picking it up. I quickly flip through the pages. They were unsigned. It was the reason I had been here last night. The divorce papers. “You can take those papers back now. You have my attention.” He says dismissively. Of course someone as concieted and self absorbed as him would not believe that i actually wanted a divorce. “I don’t want your attention. I want a divorce.” “You still have evidence of last night on you, how am i supposed to take you serious? I know you don’t really want a divorce. I know your type, scheming to get pregnant so that you can finally be respected as Mrs.Kensington.” He scoffs. “You can think whatever fantasies you have about me, just sign the papers.” I thrust them towards his chest. He grabs onto my wrist. My fingers are spread across the papers, against his chest. I feel his chest rumble as he speaks. “Don’t you know such words can provoke certain thoughts in a man’s mind?” He was looking down at me with his aristocratic nose. His deep dark eyes drink me in. Brrng ! Brrng ! His phone rings. He lets me go and steps back, picking the call. I hold onto the papers “Hello, Mr. Croften.” He says into the phone but his eyes are glued to mine. “My daughter tells us, you she is getting a divorce. How true is this ?” I hear my fathers voice ask from the other end of the phone. “I’ll call you back.” His eye twitches. He was finally taking me serious then. I was sick and tired of my life. Growing up, all i ever heard was how my life goal was to marry this man. My purpose was to secure a partnership between the Kensingtons and the Croftens. I was groomed to be his perfect wife. I knew the perfect etiquette. I was well learned in every fine art. I knew how to play every musical instrument, i knew everything about beauty, I knew how to speak several languages. My hobbies were endless so that i would find things in common with him but in the end, I hated who I’d become just for him. My family put their everything into securing this marriage for the Croftens. I had been up against hundreds of girls from other noble and prominent families but in the end, i was chosen to be Mrs. Kensington. Our marriage elevated our social status and placed us so high on the societal pyramid. Businesses depended on the union of our marriage to thrive I was elated and overjoyed in the beginning but now i realize how vain and meaningless it was for me. I knew very well what it’ll mean for both the Croftens and Kensingtons if we got a divorce but i was no longer going to put others who didn’t care about me before me “Mr. Kensington, sir.” His butler, Collings rushes in with an ipad in his hand. We both turned to look at the older man who was breathing hard from rushing here. “There are news publications and blogs talking about a divorce between the Croftens and the Kensingtons. .” “Why are you informing me when this should be easily solved by you and the team? ” “The team is rapidly taking them down but more keep going up. They seem to have a reliable source.” “What do you mean a reliable source ?” He demands, growing impatient when Collings keeps going in circles. “Sir, there’s a voice recording of a call between your wife and the Croftens talking about your divorce circulating online.” “Give it to me.” He says, casting me a glance as if he’s finally seeing me for the first time, and in a different light. He plays the recording. Still keeping his eyes on me. My voice rings out. Clear and crisp. “Hello Father.” “Is there a problem? Why are you calling me at such odd hours instead of working harder to please Mr. Kensington?” My father says crudely. Was I even his daughter? He didn’t care about how i was doing after dumping me in this hell hole. All he cared about was if i was pleasing the Kensingtons to secure business deals for him. I took a deep breath and began “I’m just calling you to inform you out of respect and the fact that you took care of me for all these years..” “Jana, get straight to the point. If you’re thankful, then please your husband so we can secure more business deals with them.” “Father, I am getting a divorce. I wanted to let you know before you find out in the media. I’d be announcing our divorce at the upcoming Wedding anniversary for our families. I’ve already invited the press and I’d also be sending this call recording out too. So if anyone is listening to this, this is Jana Croften Kensington and I am getting a divorce. If anyone debunks this, they are clearly lying.” “Jana don't be stupid. Are you trying to embarrass the Croften family name? You won’t dare — beepppppp” The line cuts off.
