The Power Within
The sounds of fighting echoed through the night.
Kim paced the room, ignoring Maya’s warning looks. Every growl, every howl made her heart pound harder. She could feel Eden—his fear, his anger, his strength—as if it all flowed through her.
“What’s happening to me?” Kim whispered, clutching her wrist.
The mark glowed again, brighter than before.
Maya turned to her, eyes wide. “The bond is opening faster than I expected.”
Kim looked up sharply. “Then tell me what I am.”
Maya hesitated, then spoke carefully. “You’re not fully human. You never were.”
Kim’s breath caught. “Then what am I?”
“Something rare,” Maya said. “A bloodline that was hidden long ago. One that strengthens the Alpha bond instead of weakening it.”
A loud crash shook the building.
Kim didn’t think. She ran.
“Kim, stop!” Maya shouted.
But Kim was already moving down the corridor, drawn by a force she couldn’t control. Outside, the forest was lit by moonlight and chaos. Wolves fought in the shadows, bodies moving too fast to follow.
Then she saw him.
Eden was surrounded.
Blood stained his arm, and rage burned in his eyes as he fought off three rogues at once. Seeing him hurt sent a sharp pain through Kim’s chest.
“No,” she breathed.
The mark flared violently.
Heat rushed through her body, knocking the air from her lungs. She screamed as energy exploded outward, forcing the rogues back. The ground shook. The forest went silent.
Everyone froze.
Kim stood in the clearing, glowing faintly, her eyes shining silver in the moonlight. She felt strong. Whole. Awake.
Eden stared at her in shock. “Kim…”
The rogues fled, fear replacing hunger.
Kim swayed, suddenly weak. Eden was beside her in seconds, catching her before she fell.
He held her tightly, as if letting go would break her. “You shouldn’t have come,” he said, his voice rough.
Kim looked up at him, tears in her eyes. “I felt you. I couldn’t stay away.”
Eden pressed his forehead to hers. “You saved us.”
As the pack gathered around them, one truth became clear.
Kim was no longer just protected by the Alpha.
She was powerful enough to stand beside him.
The forest was silent after the battle.
The pack moved carefully, tending to the wounded and securing the borders. Kim sat inside the pack house, wrapped in a blanket, her hands still trembling. What she had done replayed in her mind again and again.
Power had flowed through her so easily.
That scared her more than the rogues.
Eden stood across the room, watching her quietly. His arm was bandaged, but his eyes were fixed on her, filled with worry and something deeper.
“You shouldn’t fear what you are,” he said gently.
Kim looked up. “How can I not? I don’t even recognize myself anymore.”
Eden walked closer and knelt in front of her. “When I first became Alpha, I was afraid too. Power changes you. The choice is whether you let it control you or you control it.”
She studied his face. “Do I really have a choice?”
He nodded. “The moon may mark us, but it never forces the heart.”
That night, the full moon rose again.
Maya entered quietly. “It’s time.”
Kim stiffened. “Time for what?”
“The bond must be acknowledged,” Maya said. “The moon is calling you.”
Eden stood and offered his hand. “You don’t have to do this. I won’t claim you unless you choose me.”
Kim looked at his hand. At the man who had protected her. Believed in her. Trusted her strength.
She placed her hand in his.
They walked into the clearing together. The moonlight wrapped around them like silver fire. Kim felt the bond hum, waiting.
Eden lowered his head. “Kim, will you accept the bond and stand with me as my mate?”
Her heart raced, but her fear faded.
“Yes,” she said softly. “I choose you.”
The moonlight burst brighter as the mark on her wrist settled, glowing once before becoming still. A calm warmth spread through her chest.
The pack bowed in silence.
From that moment on, Kim was no longer an outsider.
She was chosen by the moon.
And claimed by the Alpha.
