Training in the Moonlight The morning sun barely filtered through the thick canopy, painting the forest floor in streaks of gold. Kim woke, her body aching from yesterday’s battle, but her heart thrummed with a strange, unstoppable energy. Eden was already awake, standing at the edge of the clearing, eyes scanning the trees. His posture was tense, even in human form. “We have work to do,” he said simply. Kim blinked, trying to focus. “Work?” He smirked faintly. “Yes. Learning to control your power isn’t just about surviving fights. You need precision, endurance, and control. Otherwise, the bond can consume you.” Kim nodded, determination hardening in her chest. “Then show me.” Eden’s wolf form shifted beside her, powerful and massive. “We start with agility and reflexes,” he said. He sprinted forward, the earth shaking beneath him. Kim ran after him, her senses guiding her movements. The forest blurred around her as she leapt over roots, ducked under low branches, and dodged imaginary attacks he threw at her. “Faster!” Eden barked, circling her. “You need to anticipate, not just react!” Kim pushed harder, feeling her body move with unnatural speed and grace. Energy flowed through her, following the rhythm of the bond. When she stumbled, Eden caught her effortlessly, holding her steady. “Not bad,” he murmured, but his eyes were sharp, judging every movement. Hours passed. Sweat drenched her clothes, her muscles screamed, but Kim felt stronger with every passing moment. The bond pulsed in her veins, not just as energy, but as awareness—every leaf rustling, every shadow moving, every heartbeat around her. By mid-afternoon, Eden stopped abruptly. “Enough for now,” he said, his voice calm but commanding. “Time for real combat training.” Kim’s stomach clenched. She had fought in battle, but this was different. Eden explained that controlling her power in the heat of a fight required discipline—focus—and trust in him. They faced each other in the clearing. Eden shifted fully into his wolf form. He circled her like a predator testing a prey he trusts, eyes glowing silver. Kim’s mark glowed faintly on her wrist, pulsing with anticipation. “Use your bond,” Eden instructed. “Feel me. Move with me. Let your power guide your strikes—but don’t lose control.” The fight began. Eden lunged at her with inhuman speed. Kim dodged, feeling the bond connect their movements. When she struck, energy flowed through her hands, creating a wave that forced him back—but he shifted effortlessly, landing in front of her again. “Good,” he said, panting slightly. “Again!” They fought through the afternoon, Kim learning to anticipate, to channel, to push her power in controlled bursts. Every blow, every step, every movement strengthened the bond—and her trust in Eden. Hours later, Kim collapsed to her knees, exhausted. Eden shifted back to human form, crouching beside her. He took her hand in his, thumbs brushing over her mark. “You did more than I expected,” he said softly. “You’re ready for the next stage. But remember—strength is nothing without control. And the rogues are already plotting their next move.” Kim swallowed, the weight of the words settling in. “Then I won’t fail. Not for them. Not for me. Not for you.” Eden’s eyes softened. “Good. Because whatever comes next… it’s going to test everything we have. Together.” Just then, a distant howl carried on the wind—a warning that the rogues were moving. Kim’s chest tightened, but this time it wasn’t fear. It was determination. She stood, brushing sweat and dirt from her clothes. The mark on her wrist pulsed faintly, steady, reassuring. She met Eden’s gaze. “I’m ready,” she said. Eden’s hand brushed her cheek. “I know you are.” And as the sun set behind the trees, painting the forest in silver and gold, Kim realized she had truly stepped into her new life. She was no longer a bystander. She was the Alpha’s mate. And she was a force to be reckoned with. The rogues were coming. And this time, she would meet them head-on.
