Chapter 3

The ancient stone manor, the pack's stronghold, was bathed in a gentle, golden glow as the first rays of dawn peaked through the dense Carpathian forest canopy. The smell of burning candles and the musty smell of old books filled the air within. Enormous shelves adorned the walls, brimming with soiled books and manuscripts, vestiges of ages gone by. Seated at a grand mahogany table, Ethan Blackwood's gaze swept across the fading pages of an old manuscript. The area was poorly illuminated, with the walls covered in dancing shadows created by the flickering candlelight. Fueled by a sense of urgency and resolve, he had spent the whole night absorbed in the old books. Even in the early morning light, Aria Morgan's presence was powerful as she entered the room. With her footsteps soundless on the stone floor, she walked towards Ethan. "Any progress?" she said, her tone half tired, half hopeful. With a gleam of discovery in his eyes, Ethan looked up. He said, "I think I've found something," in an excited and nervous tone. "It's a prophecy, written in a dialect I barely recognize, but it speaks of a blood moon and the return of a dark queen." Leaning over the table, Aria scanned the old book with her gaze. "What does it say, exactly?" Ethan inhaled deeply as he ran his fingers over the fading pen. The passage describes a period when the blood moon will rise, and an ancient power will arise along with it. The passage refers to Luna specifically, calling her a queen who will retake control over all werewolves. Aria's mind raced as her eyes narrowed. "Is there any mention of how to stop her?" Ethan turned the page and nodded, revealing a maze of complicated symbols and patterns. This paragraph suggests how to make her weaker and describes a rite involving the blood of the Alpha and the crimson moon's brightness. However, the information is dispersed. We'll have to put it together carefully." Aria straightened, her face determined. Then, we are at a loss for time. We must get the pack together and prepare for the crimson moon. We need to prepare for Luna if she is waking up." A strange shiver swept across the room as they studied the old writings. The flickering candlelight created unsettling shadows on the walls. Ethan saw a phantom figure appear in the doorway, and his eyes widened. It was a woman with ethereal, menacing features and luminous, unearthly eyes. "Luna," Aria uttered in a scarcely discernible whisper. The ghostly figure grinned with a chilly, sinister look. Her voice resounded throughout the room as she asked, "You think you can stop me?" "You are merely kids having fun with fire. No prophecy can spare you from my impending return." The figure disappeared with that, and the room was filled with a deafening silence. Aria and Ethan exchanged a look as the weight of their predicament descended hard on them. Ethan calmly stated, "We need to move quickly," even though he was terrified. "If Luna knows we're onto her, she'll try to stop us before we can act." Aria nodded, determination burning in her eyes. She gave the order, "Gather the pack." "We'll get together in the open space beneath the red moon. It's time to be ready for combat." The ancient writings clasped firmly in Ethan's hands emerged from the room into an atmosphere that seemed to buzz with imminent disaster. The woodland was covered in mist, with dark, ominous shadows. However, Aria and Ethan moved purposefully, their strides unwavering. They had to muster their bravery and strength to take on the ancient darkness that threatened their world in this first battle against Luna. The first beams of dawn broke the thick canopy of the Carpathian woodland, illuminating the forest floor with mottled light. Aria Morgan stood at the edge of the clearing with her breath evident in the bright morning air. An old stone circle in the middle of the clearing hummed with menacing, low energy, a clear warning of impending danger. Aria's thoughts raced over Ethan's revelation. The old texts validated her darkest fears: Luna, the primordial Wolf Queen, was rising, and the red moon was a sign that she would soon return. The broken prophecy described a ritual combining the blood of the Alpha with the blood moon's light, an evil mix that could give Luna unfathomable power. She realized she needed to move quickly. The pack's survival hinged on its cohesion and preparedness for the impending conflict. She strode toward the center of Elderglen, the village still enveloped in the mist of morning. The ghostly stillness that had descended upon the town muted the regular bustle of everyday life, leaving the cobblestone streets empty. Aria arrived at the pack's stronghold, a stately stone manor half-hidden by enormous oak trees. She pulled open the wooden door, and it groaned. She walked into a dimly lit corridor filled with the smell of ancient paper and burning sage. The pack elders had already assembled with anxious and hopeful expressions. "Elders," Aria said in a steady, anxious voice. "The moment is now. Soon, the blood moon will rise as Luna begins to awaken. We must get together as a group and prepare for the fight ahead." Elder Rowan nodded solemnly, his grey eyes piercing with insight. "We are also aware of the disturbance. The forest warns of gloomy times to come. What is said in the old texts?" When Aria briefly summarized Ethan's results, there were worried chuckles. Elder Freya leaned forward, her silver hair shimmering in the firelight. "A blood ritual performed by the Alpha... Yes, this is dark magic. We have to make sure Luna fails." "Every physically fit werewolf must be prepared to battle," Aria said. "Get the word out. In the twilight, we assemble in the historic stone circle." Aria sensed a presence behind her as the elders scattered to call the pack. She looked over to see Ethan, his eyes bright with resolve, his face drawn with exhaustion. "Aria," he replied, extending a battered book with a leather cover. "There's more information. I discovered an additional tunnel. It alludes to an antiquated weapon that might swing the odds in our favor. Scanning the pages, Aria took the book. "An ancient weapon... Do we know where it is?" Ethan gave a headshake. "Not quite, but hints are present. I have some more texts that I need to cross-reference. There may be time to locate it. Aria nodded, determination taking hold. "Achieve it. We require every benefit at our disposal." The pack had assembled at the old stone circle by dusk; their breath was evident in the chilly evening air. The sound of low-pitched voices filled the area, accompanied by the flickering shadows of torches on the old stones. Aria loomed large in front of them, her determination burning in her eyes. She said, "Brothers and sisters," her voice rising above the hordes of wolves. "An old darkness is about to descend upon us. As Luna, the Wolf Queen, awakens, a menace unmatched by anything we have encountered approaches. However, we are powerful. We're all together. And we will overcome this darkness together." A chuckle of agreement swept through the assembly. Aria signaled silence with a raised hand. Tonight, we get ready. We will fight tomorrow. Recall that our solidarity gives us strength. Remain alert and have faith in one another." Aria felt a hand on her shoulder as the pack parted ways to get ready. She looked up to see Elder Thorne's aged and wise visage. Aria, you possess the heart of a genuine leader. Lead us with grace." With a steady stare, she nodded. "Yes, I will. For our future as well as the pack." The air was dense with expectation, and the clearing was filled with the sounds of preparation as night fell. The battle for their lives became more intense as the crimson moon rose. With her eyes fixed on the horizon, Aria prepared to confront the ancient darkness looming over her world as she stood at the meadow's edge.
