Chapter 4

The chilly light of the moon shone down on the rough terrain of the Carpathian Mountains, hanging low in the sky like a silver sentry. Aria Morgan's senses were keen as she moved quickly through the deep woodland. The aroma of damp earth and far-off fires wafted through the trees as the wind whispered through them. Failing was not an option; she was on a mission. The woodland ahead parted to reveal a large clearing where a pack of werewolves had congregated. This was the home range of the fearsome Stoneclaw pack, which was fiercely independent and possessive of its territory. The pack members' low growls and murmurs reached Aria's ears as she got closer, giving away their wariness. Stepping forward was the alpha of the Stoneclaws, a tall figure with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. Marcus was his name, and he had a bad reputation for hospitality. He growled, "Aria Morgan," his voice full of mistrust and intrigue at the same time. "What brings the alpha of the Moonshadow pack to our territory?" Aria matched his stare with unwavering eyes of her own. "Marcus, we share a shared threat. The old Wolf Queen Luna is coming of age. If we want to defeat her, we have to band together." A rumor of disquietude shook the Stoneclaw group. Marcus looked doubtful as he crossed his arms. "Moreover, why should we trust you? For many years, the Stoneclaws have protected their domain by themselves. We don't require outside assistance." Aria stepped forward, her voice firm and determined. "We have never encountered a threat like this one before. Luna's strength is increasing, and she won't let up until she has taken back control of all werewolves. By ourselves, we are exposed. We are powerful when we work together." With a low growl vibrating in his throat, Marcus's eyes narrowed. "You expect us to put our trust in you at that point? How can we be certain that this isn't a ruse to undermine us?" Aria was about to reply when they heard a sudden stirring in the undergrowth. Ethan Blackwood stepped out of the shadows, his breath echoing in the chilly night air. He raised a scroll, its edges worn and ragged from age. His voice broke the tension, "I have proof," he declared. "This ancient text speaks of Luna's return and the blood moon that will mark her awakening." Taking the scroll, Marcus looked over the fading words. After a moment, his gaze was reflective. With reluctance, he said, "This changes things." "But it does not mean we trust you." Stepping forward, Aria spoke with sincerity. Marcus, I can appreciate your hesitancy. However, this is more than a single pack. We must set aside our disagreements and unite in our battle. For our future and our survival." Marcus looked at her, his blue eyes seeking any hint of dishonesty, and there was a tangible tension in the air. In the end, he gave a hesitant but firm nod. Excellent, Aria. The Stoneclaws will accompany you, but be warned—there won't be any forgiveness if you turn on us." With a hint of relief spreading across her features, Aria c****d her head. Marcus, you have my word. Together, we stand. After securing the Stoneclaws' allegiance, Aria and Ethan continued their trek, venturing further into the Carpathian forest. The next destination was the home range of the Silverfang pack, renowned for its slyness and strategic aptitude. As they got closer to the Silverfang camp, they heard whispers and saw suspicious looks. Selene, a sleek and swift werewolf, the alpha of the Silverfangs, stepped forward. Her eyes were a calculating, keen silver that analyzed them with caution and interest mixed. "Aria Morgan, Ethan Blackwood," she said in a calm, measured voice. "What brings you to the Silverfang territory?" Aria pleaded again, stressing the importance of unity and the imminence of Luna's return as a threat. Selene paid close attention, never taking her eyes from Aria's. Selene remained silent for a time after Aria finished, her eyes attentive. "And you expect us to risk our lives based on ancient prophecies and a distant threat?" With a suspicious tone, Selene enquired. With a composed and convincing voice, Ethan took a step ahead. "Luna has true power, and it is increasing. If we don't take action right away, she will rule over all of us. We can stop her if we work together." Selene thought about what he had said; her countenance was mysterious. At last, she nodded. "Aria, the Silverfangs will accompany you. However, be aware that we will be closely observing you." After securing their alliances, Aria and Ethan returned to Elderglen. The forest, with its elderly trees acting as mute witnesses to the events taking place, appeared to breathe with them. Aria had new optimism as they got closer to the village. They were not fighting this battle alone. However, a howl from a distance resounded through the night, signaling that the real fight was still to come as the moon rose high in the sky, bathing the land in a glittering glow. As Luna's power increased, they needed to unite and muster their strength to face the darkness ahead. The Carpathian Mountains were illuminated by a full moon that hung low, creating lengthy shadows in the dense forest. Aria Morgan walked purposefully over the forest floor, her strides steady and soundless. In the night breeze, the ancient trees murmured mysteries with their gnarled branches stretching like skeletal fingers. The chilly air carried a reminder of the ancient force that pulsated beneath the surface, together with the aroma of damp earth and pine. The Stoneclaw pack had assembled in the large clearing ahead of the jungle. The pack watched Aria approach a formidable gathering of werewolves with sharp eyes and wary looks. Marcus, their leader, stood in the middle. With his towering stature, dark hair, and piercing blue eyes, he gave off an appearance of power and authority. Marcus called "Aria Morgan," a deep rumble that echoed around the clearing. "What brings the alpha of the Moonshadow pack to our territory?" Aria answered his stare with an unwavering focus in her own eyes. Marcus, we are all at risk from this threat. The old Wolf Queen Luna is coming of age. To have a chance against her, we have to band together." A wave of anxiety swept through the assembled Stoneclaws. Marcus's expression was doubtful as he folded his arms over his enormous chest. "Moreover, why should we trust you? For many years, the Stoneclaws have protected their domain by themselves. We don't require outside assistance." Aria stepped forward, her tone composed but unwavering. "One pack cannot defeat this threat on its own. Luna's strength is increasing, and she won't let up until she has taken back control of all werewolves. We can stop her if we work together. Split apart, we collapse." With a low growl vibrating in his throat, Marcus's eyes narrowed. "You expect us to put our trust in you at that point? How can we be certain that this isn't a ruse to undermine us?" They noticed a startling movement before Aria could reply. Ethan Blackwood stepped out of the shadows, his breath echoing in the chilly night air. He handed up an old scroll, the edges worn smooth over time. His voice broke the tension, "I have proof," he declared. "This text speaks of Luna's return and the blood moon that will mark her awakening." Taking the scroll, Marcus looked over the fading words. His expression changed from doubt to thoughtfulness. With reluctance, he said, "This changes things." "But it does not mean we trust you." With conviction in her voice, Aria took a step forward. Marcus, I can appreciate your hesitancy. However, this is more than a single pack. We must set aside our disagreements and unite in our battle. For our future and our survival." Marcus looked at her, his blue eyes seeking any hint of dishonesty, and there was a tangible tension in the air. He hesitated for an extended period before making the reluctance to nod clear. Excellent, Aria. The Stoneclaws will accompany you, but be warned—there won't be any forgiveness if you turn on us." With a glimpse of relief in her eyes, Aria bowed her head. "Marcus, you have my word. Together, we stand. Aria and Ethan moved to the edge of the clearing as the Stoneclaws split up to get ready for battle. The woodland surrounding them looked dark and ominous, and the night was getting colder. Ethan sent a contemplative glance in Aria's direction. "Do you think he believes you?" Aria let out a sigh and kept her eyes on the far horizon. He doesn't have to accept my word for it. All he has to do is witness the reality when it emerges. And, Ethan, it will arrive. Luna is accurate, and she's becoming more powerful." With a nod, Ethan's doubts gave way to a common urgency. "After that, we must ensure that we're prepared. The other packs have to hear this as well. "I agree," Aria answered. "We depart at first dawn. Time is of the essence. Aria had a fresh feeling of purpose as they walked back through the woodland, the moonlight creating spectral shadows on their path. They had managed to win over the Stoneclaws, but there were still packs to win over and wolves to persuade. They still had a severe war ahead of them, and to defeat the ancient evil that threatened their world, they would require every ounce of power and solidarity. The sensation of impending dread grew stronger as the night grew longer. But Aria was adamant in her resolve. She would lead her pack and everyone standing with them out of the shadows and into the light for their future and survival.
