Chapter 13

843 Words
James and Jenna quickly dumped their bags in the guest room that they had been assigned for the night and headed for the ballroom. An incredibly well decorated building that sat a short distance from the pack house. The twinkling white lights led the way for them to follow. “This is romantic.” James whispered into Jenna’s ear as they walked. “Yes it is.” She whispered back, holding tightly on to his hand. James pulled her close and gave her a quick gentle kiss on the lips. “We won’t stay long. I promise. I don’t want to waste any of our time alone away from the pack with these lot.” “Don’t worry. I’m sure it’s going to be fine. We at least want to make the most of the free drinks.” Jenna replied trying to reassure her boyfriend, although if she was completely honest she had never been to anything like this before and she had no idea how it was going to go. They reached the ballroom and walked in to the room that was already filling up with people James did not recognise. “Jimmy, what are you doing here?” A familiar voice called from across the room. James looked around to see two of his old friends from the academy. “Harry, Luke, hey I forgot this was your pack. How are things?” “Things are great. How are you?” Luke replied . “Good thanks. This is Jenna my bodyguard for the night.” He gestured to the pretty werewolf at his side giving her a quick side cuddle. “Nice to meet you.” She replied holding out her hand to shake both of theirs. As Harry was shaking her hand his eyes glazed over and he looked at Lewis. “I’m so sorry we have to go but we will be back soon, we definitely need to catch-up.” He said to James. “Is everything ok? Do you need any help? Jenna is a warrior she can help you out if you need it?” James offered with a smile motioning to his date teasingly. Jenna glared at him playfully and hit his chest. Harry and Luke shook their heads in unison and ran to the door quickly. James hadn’t planned on staying at the ball too long. Hell he didn’t want to be here at all so he planned to spend as little time as possible at this thing. He just wanted to quickly speak to Rose, to appease his brother, then have an early night with Jenna. He hadn’t seen Rose yet though. Although to be honest he didn’t have a clue what she looked like. He had deliberately ignored everything his brother and mother had said about her, and they had said a lot over the last few weeks since they had received the invitation to the ball. He had been hoping Rose was going to give some sort of speech so he knew who she was but she hadn’t so far, no one had given any kind of speech and other than seeing Harry and Luke he hadn’t seen anyone he recognised or wanted to talk to. There were lots of people in the ballroom now and he supposed everyone of them was here to speak to her. She was very in demand at the moment, so many Alpha blooded males desperately trying to sink their claws into her and her pack. James rolled his eyes at the thought. A female Alpha was such a prize to so many that wanted take the pack away from her, and she had practically promised to let them. He could wait a little bit longer to speak to her. He did want to catch up with Harry and Luke and they said they would be back soon. It had been a long time since they left the academy and he had not been in touch with them even though they had promised to stay in touch. They both reached for another glass of champagne from a nearby tray silently deciding to have another few free drinks whilst they waited. They both felt on edge and the champagne was flowing freely, every time they finished a glass someone was there with a tray to offer them a full one. Neither one of them drank champagne often and tonight felt like a good time to relax and enjoy the free drinks. The heavy ballroom doors opened and the most incredible smell he had ever smelt wafted into the room. Dylan started going berserk inside his head, jumping up and down, with his tail wagging frantically. James couldn’t think straight, his wolf desperately trying to push forward and see the source of the scent. His heart was racing and he felt like all the air had been sucked out of his lungs. He had to fight hard to kept control of himself and his wolf. MATE!” The words were spoken loudly and confidently, but not by James.
