Chapter 9

1012 Words
One year later The last year had gone by so quickly. Not everything had gone smoothly but Rose was proud of where the pack was. Beta Luke and Gamma Harry returned from the academy after they completed their studies. They had both done exceptionally well and had become incredibly valuable to her. She trusted their opinions completely on all but one issue. The former Beta and Gamma remained in the pack but moved out of the pack house. Rose had finally demolished the old gymnasium and had build a new state of the art prison and ballroom on the site along with several houses, two of which now house the former Beta and Gamma and their families. The Beta and Gamma suite now occupied by her Alpha unit. She had made sure to eat breakfast and lunch in the pack dinning hall at the same time each day usually with her Beta and Gamma. She had spent very little time with the pack members before becoming Alpha but now she wanted to be as approachable as possible. She was available for a quick chat whilst she ate. The pack’s businesses were doing much better. Most had been running with huge losses and the pack had been on the brink of bankruptcy. Some businesses had to be completely shut down but most had been restructured and were now making small profits. Rose continued to run the Architecture firm but from the pack. She couldn’t spend her days off pack territory in a human town anymore. Melody had given birth to a healthy daughter. Rose continued the tradition of providing a comfortable but not extravagant home with enough money to live comfortably. Unlike her father though Rose had continued to visit with Melody and Lilly. She often ate her evening meal with Melody and Lilly at their house or with Luke and Harry in her suite. Rose tried to keep the news of Lilly’s birth quiet but within days she had started receiving invitations to visit other packs to get to know the younger brothers and second sons. Surprisingly she had not heard from Alpha Drew and she wondered if his brother had found his mate in the last year or was not as interested in taking a chosen mate for a pack as his brother was for him to do so. She would find out soon enough. Tonight she was hosting a celebration ball for her one year anniversary as the Alpha. All of the allied packs had received invitations for high ranking members of their pack to attend a ball in the new ballroom that Rose had designed herself especially for functions such as these. It was still several hours before the ball so Rose jogged the short distance to the ballroom. She passed several omegas busy preparing the path with small silver lights that would guide the guests from the pack house. Rose stopped and complemented them on their work and how great it looked. Before she became Alpha, Rose had known very few people in the pack. She felt awkward and like she didn’t belong but now it was her pack she had made a point of knowing as many people as possible. She spoke with everyone she passed from warriors to omegas, elders to young pups. After inspecting the ballroom and being blown away by the sight she turned and walked to the cells. This was another new addition to the pack designed by Rose. She didn’t feel comfortable with the ancient cells in the pack house so had turned the old gymnasium into a high tech prison. She hoped there wouldn’t be too many prisoners to house but she wanted to be sure she had somewhere for them if she needed it. The cells had been used infrequently, but today it was home to a rogue that had just been caught that morning spying on the pack. Normally rogues would flee once they realised they had been spotted or fight until they were killed by the patrol but this rogue had knelt with his hands in the air and told the patrol that he had information about Alpha Nicolas’s death. Rose doubted that he knew anything but she couldn’t take that chance. She had investigated her fathers death for months and had found nothing to tell her what had happened to her father that night after he left the pack lands. It was possible that a rogue had something to do with it but it was highly unlikely that a rogue could take down a battle hardened Alpha like Alpha Nick. She met her Beta and Gamma at the entrance and the three of them walked into the prison together. The prisoner lay on an uncomfortable looking camp bed facing away from them. He was naked apart from a pair of pack shorts. The shorts that were kept all over the pack for once wolves shifted back to their human form. She presumed he must have been in wolf form at some point but not when he was captured. There was not a mark on him and no wolf would willingly be captured, this was the human side’s decision. Rose opened the door and quickly closed it behind them and walked to the foot of the bed. “You have some information for us I believe.” Rose commanded. The prisoner did not move, his eyes remained closed and Rose thought he may have been asleep and was about to repeat herself when he answered. “For you, not for them.” He said with authority. This was an error on the rogues part. Rose had all the information she needed from him. He was not going to give her any new information but she didn’t want him to know that she knew that yet. “Very well. I will be back tomorrow on my own. I don’t want any scratches showing for my anniversary ball. Goodbye.” The three men were speechless. This had not been what they had expected. Tears and rage perhaps but not indifference.
