CHAPTER 1: THE WEDDING OF TWO EMPIRES
The Mendoza Estate glittered beneath thousands of golden lights. Reporters crowded outside the massive gates, cameras flashing as luxury cars arrived one after another. The wedding of Mia Mendoza and David Mondragon was already being called the event of the decade. Not because they were celebrities. Because they were royalty. Business royalty. The Mendoza family controlled one of the largest investment empires in the country, while the Mondragons owned shipping companies, banks, and real estate worth billions. For decades, the two families had hated each other. What began as a small business dispute between their ancestors had transformed into a war that lasted generations. Children from both families grew up hearing the same warning. "Never trust a Mondragon." "Never trust a Mendoza." Yet somehow, love had found its way through the hatred. Mia smiled at her reflection in the mirror. Her white wedding gown shimmered around her like moonlight. She gently placed a hand over her stomach. A secret smile touched her lips. Only she and David knew. Their baby was growing inside her. The child would be the bridge between two families. The child would end the feud forever. A knock sounded on the door. "Come in." Her grandmother entered first. Tears immediately filled the old woman's eyes. "My beautiful granddaughter." Mia laughed softly. "Grandma, you'll ruin your makeup." "I don't care." The older woman hugged her tightly. For years, she had opposed the relationship. Most of the family had. But eventually they gave in after seeing how deeply Mia and David loved each other. Today was supposed to be a new beginning. A fresh chapter. A day of peace. Unfortunately, fate had other plans. Across the estate, David adjusted his suit while staring out the window. His best friend laughed. "You look nervous." "I am nervous." "You've negotiated billion-dollar deals." David sighed. "This is different." His friend grinned. "Because of Mia?" David smiled. "Because of Mia." For a moment, everything felt perfect. He loved her. She loved him. Nothing else mattered. Or so he thought. A few floors below, Daniel Mondragon stood alone in a dark hallway. His expression was cold. His hands trembled. Not from fear. From jealousy. He had spent years watching his younger brother love the woman he secretly wanted for himself. Mia. The woman who never looked at him the way she looked at David. The woman he could never have. His obsession had slowly transformed into something darker. Something dangerous. Something deadly. Daniel pulled out his phone. A message appeared on the screen. Everything is ready. The sender's name made him smile. Susan Mendoza. Mia's aunt. His partner. His ally. His fellow monster. Daniel typed only two words. Do it. Then he deleted the conversation. Inside the main ballroom, hundreds of guests waited. Business leaders. Politicians. Celebrities. The wealthiest people in the country. Everyone wanted to witness history. The orchestra began to play. The giant doors slowly opened. Mia appeared. The entire room fell silent. David forgot how to breathe. She was beautiful. No. Beautiful wasn't enough. She looked like a dream. Like a queen. Like the future he wanted. Their eyes met. Neither noticed the hatred hidden among the guests. Neither noticed the villains watching from the shadows. Mark. Susan. Uncle Elmo. Carlos Mondragon. Each of them smiling. Each of them hiding secrets. The ceremony began. The priest spoke. Guests listened. David never stopped looking at Mia. Soon. Just a few more minutes. Then she would officially become his wife. Then their child would be born into a united family. Then everything would finally be okay. Suddenly— A scream shattered the room. Everyone turned. A woman stood near one of the side exits. Her face was pale. Her hand pointed toward the hallway. "There is a body!" Panic exploded. People rushed forward. The music stopped. Mia frowned. David immediately grabbed her hand. "What happened?" Nobody answered. The crowd pushed through the hallway. Security officers arrived. Then someone shouted. "Oh my God." David felt his heart stop. The voice sounded terrified. Slowly, he moved forward. Mia followed. The crowd parted. And then they saw it. Daniel. Lying on the floor. Dead. Blood covered his body. A knife protruded from his chest. The hallway became silent. Terrifyingly silent. Then another scream echoed. This time it came from David. Because standing beside Daniel's body was Mia. Her hands were stained with blood. Fresh blood. The knife's handle carried her fingerprints. The evidence looked undeniable. Mia stared at her hands. Confused. Terrified. "I didn't do this." Nobody responded. "I didn't do this!" David looked at her. His face pale. His eyes broken. "Mia..." "I swear." Tears rolled down her cheeks. "I swear I didn't do this." Police officers rushed inside. The guests began whispering. Some looked shocked. Others looked satisfied. Especially Susan. Especially Mark. Especially Uncle Elmo. Their plan was working perfectly. Mia turned desperately toward David. "Please believe me." David wanted to. He really wanted to. But Daniel was his brother. The evidence was everywhere. Nothing made sense. The police moved toward her. "No..." Mia stepped back. "No, no, no." The handcuffs clicked around her wrists. Her wedding bouquet fell to the floor. White flowers scattered across blood-stained marble. The perfect symbol of a destroyed future. "I didn't kill him!" she screamed. Nobody listened. David stood frozen. Unable to move. Unable to think. Unable to save the woman he loved. As officers dragged Mia away, she looked back one final time. Their eyes met. A thousand promises died between them. A thousand dreams shattered. Neither of them knew that this tragedy was only the beginning. Neither of them knew that Mia's parents had already been murdered years ago by members of their own family. Neither knew that Daniel's death had been staged. Neither knew that powerful people were preparing to destroy Mia completely. And neither knew that the child growing inside her would one day return to shake both billionaire empires to their foundations. Outside, thunder rolled across the dark sky. Rain began to fall. The wedding of two empires had become a funeral. And somewhere in the crowd, Susan smiled. The first move had been made. The war had finally begun. End of Chapter 1
