Expectations
Johanna sat on the wooden bench with her legs crossed, slowly twisting her wrist from side to side to feel a cool breeze from the fan she held. She hated sitting outside in the open when the sun was high. she took the napkin with her other hand and dabbed at the tiny sweat beads on her face. Her shirt was sticking to her skin due to her sweating, which was causing her the most discomfort. "It is definitely time." She said just above a whisper to her security guard standing a few feet away. He immediately nodded. "At once." He responded before pushing the button on the device in his ear to transmit a message to another guard.
Kahuna jumped up and grabbed an apple off of the branch. He rubbed it on his clean white shirt before taking a huge bite. He walked lazily up the cobblestone walkway of the bridge leaning against the brick wall. The guard assigned to him stayed back a few feet giving him his space, while still being close enough to act quickly if needed. The guard often wondered what fascinated Kahuna so much about the water and grassy area that was under the bridge. What he didn't know was the scene that actually fascinated the young boy was the children enjoying thier freedom. He took another bite of his apple as he watch the boys terrorize the girls on thier walk home from the school house. He chuckled to himself when one boy pulled the girls hair and turned around and slapped him so hard his cheek turned red. "Kahuna." the security guard caught his attention, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "The Lady is ready to return." Kahuna pressed his lips into a thin line and threw the half eaten apple into the water. He started to object, but he saw the look the older man had on his face. He could see remorse and sympathy in his eyes. Lou had been his guard since he could remember and in that time he had grown to care for him like family. Kahuna simply nodded his head and obediently followed.

Jei grabbed the last few items off the shelf and placed them neatly in the box. Then he pulled out his note pad and drew a check mark for every item that was in the large box. He them grabbed his tape and scissors from his work belt and sealed the box. After making sure the label was taped securely he pushed the chart to the back of the warehouse. "Here you go John. That's all 10 orders, I'm good to clock out now right?!" He said with a smile. It was the day before paychecks were to be distributed and he had managed to save just enough to get a few pounds cuts of chicken breast for dinner and a half dozen eggs for dessert. His family would eat well and his children would go to bed with a smile after eating a slice of cake for dessert. He been thinking about the smiles he would put on his kids face and the warm hug and kiss from his gentle wife. "Actually Mr.Long the boss wants to see you in his office before you go." John told him with a serious look on his face. Jei frowned, normally his supervisor was all smiles and jokes the day before pay day. Happily telling stories, which were probably highly embellished, about what he had done with his last paycheck. Jei squared his shoulders and fixed his clothes. Not many employees had been able to see the boss in person and this would be Jei second time. The first time he requested a meeting to ask for an advance on his months pay to pay for a hospital visit and medicine when his wife became ill about a year ago. He ran through many situations in his head while he silently followed John down the long hallway. Once they got in front of the door John turned to him and placed a firm hand on his shoulder. "Everything is gonna be ok." Jei looked into John's eyes and Something told him not to trust the words that had just came out his mouth. He started to panick on the inside, but outside he kept his composure. He swallowed the fear that had crept up quickly and took a deep breath preparing himself for the worst as he turned the doorknob. His boss was sitting at his desk busy with paperwork. Hearing his door open his head shot up and they immediately made eye contact. "Ah..Mr.Long, come in...."

Turro closed his eyes, took a deep breath and released it slowly. "Would you like to begin with the salad sir?" His eyes open slowly focusing on the older gentleman standing over him with his arm extended offering a large bowl filled with salad. "No..I will wait for my wife." He said dismissing the man with a wave of his hand. If Johanna was late it could only be one explanation. She was somewhere running behind his son that she had successfully made into a brat (in his opinion). He calmly pulled his cellphone out of his pocket and pressed the number one and green call button. "My King!" Johanna said when she answered on the second ring. "We are just pulling into the gates, my apologies. I will be immediately." Turro clenched his jaw. "You can tell your son the next time his adventures interfere with your wifely duties he will be thw one answering to me and not you." without waiting for a response he pressed the red end button and put his phone back in his pocket. Turro placed his hands on the table and intertwined his fingers impatiently waiting on her entrance. He had strict schedule to keep to and her being late pushed all his time back for the rest of the day, because he was not allowed to cut her time with him short being as she was his chosen wife.
In thier culture The chosen wife was the only one allowed to give him a male heir, however she wasn't allowed to have girls. The king could have as many concubines as he was able to provide for, but they were not allowed to have sons and were only guaranteed to spend 24 hours a week with the king. all thier other time was spent taking care of the household, which included cooking, cleaning, and seeing to the needs of the king and his chosen wife and male heir.
Of all the woman Turro encountered over his years, Johanna was the only one he had a soft spot for, but he did his best to try and hide that from everyone including her. Lately he was irritated, because his soft spot was showing through, because of the way he allowed her to spoil his only heir. "My king!" Johanna greeted. She was clearly out of breath from rushing to get to him. She had basically been dragging Kahuna with with her. She bowed respectfully and quickly pushed son to his rightful chair at the right of his father. She stop and posed in front of Turro with her hands to her side and her head bowed, awaiting her punishment for being late. "Look at me woman!" Turro growled out through clenched teeth. She was visibly shaking as she raise her head to meet his glare. Once Turro saw the creases and frown on her beautiful face and the fear and remorse in her eyes his whole demeanor changed. He took a deep breath, pushed his chair back and extended his hand for her to take. With trembling fingers she placed her delicate hand in his large palm. "You have been a good wife, don't let the distractions you've been occupied with lately tarnish my perception of you. Am I understood?" She quickly nodded "Yes my king." All her fear faded when he placed a gentle kiss to her hand. "You may be seated."
