On the way to work
*CRASHING INTO YOU*
*Chapter 1: On The Way To Work*
I was late.
Again.
The hospital shift started at 8. It was 7:48 and I was stuck on 3rd Ave with traffic crawling.
My phone buzzed. Grandma.
_“Noelle, you’re 24. When are you going to get married? Your mates have 2 children already. Are you waiting for the angels to bring you a husband?”_
I groaned and tossed the phone on the passenger seat.
“Not today, Grandma.”
I didn’t see the car in front of me brake.
Horn.
Brakes.
I jerked the wheel to the side.
Everything was loud. Then it was quiet.
---
He was in the backseat of his car, going over reports, when the driver slammed the brakes.
“Young Master, there’s an accident,” the driver said.
Ethan Cole didn’t look up at first. Traffic was always a mess.
“Check it.”
A minute later: “It’s bad. A woman. She’s unconscious. Blood.”
That made him look up.
He got out.
Rain on the windshield. Steam from the cars. And her.
Slumped over the wheel. Dark hair over her face. Blood running down the back of her head onto the seat.
He swore under his breath.
He opened the door. Her pulse was faint but there.
“Driver. Hospital. Now.”
He lifted her out. She was lighter than she looked.
Blood on his suit. Didn’t matter.
Her face pale.
As they sped to the hospital, he told the driver to take _his_ hospital.
