*CRASHING INTO YOU*
*Chapter 3: Discharge*
Three days later and I was sick of hospital beds.
Concussion cleared. Stitches in the back of my head.
“Dr. Brooks, you’re free to go,” the nurse said, handing me my bag. “Just take it easy. No night shifts for 2 weeks.”
I nodded. “Nurse, about the hospital bills...”
She smiled. “Already covered. The gentleman who brought you in took care of everything.”
Ethan. Of course.
I rolled my eyes and walked out to the gate to call a cab. My head still throbbed if I moved too fast.
A black SUV was parked by the entrance.
As soon as I stepped out, a young man in a suit walked up to me.
“Dr. Adeyemi?” he asked.
“Yes?”
“I’m Asher Lyman. Mr. Ethan Cole’s assistant. He sent me to take you home.”
I blinked. “He... sent you?”
“Yes ma’am. Please, the car is right here.” He gestured to the SUV. The driver was already opening the door.
I should’ve said no. I should’ve been professional.
But my head hurt and arguing felt like too much work.
“Fine,” I muttered. “But only to my apartment.”
Asher nodded politely and got in with me.
10 minutes later we pulled up to my building.
Asher handed me a folder before I got out.
“Medical documents. And Mr. Cole’s contact, in case you need anything for the police statement.”
Then he left.
I stood there holding the folder and thought:
The man who saved me is the most infuriating person I’ve ever met.
