*CRASHING INTO YOU*
*Chapter 5: The Interrogation*
The next morning I was barely awake when my doorbell rang.
Non-stop. Like someone was trying to break it down.
I opened it.
Lisa Wilds. Two grocery bags in one hand, a pot of soup in the other, and concern all over her face.
“Morning,” she said, walking right in. “I brought groceries.”
“I can feed myself, Lis.”
“You had a concussion and 6 stitches. Let me feed you.”
She dumped everything on my kitchen counter and started moving around like she owned the place.
Which she basically did. Best friends since uni privileges.
“Okay,” she said, turning to face me. Arms crossed. “Talk.”
I sighed and sat on the couch. “What do you want me to say?”
“Everything. Start from ‘I crashed my car’ and end with ‘Ethan Cole paid my bills.’”
So I did. The traffic. The accident. Waking up. The nurse.
Asher picking me up. The folder.
Lisa listened with her soup spoon halfway to her mouth.
When I finished, she put it down.
“Let me get this straight,” she said.
“A billionaire pulled you out of a wreck, paid for everything, sent his assistant, and you’re acting like he gave you directions?”
“He was cold, Lisa.”
“Cold people don’t pay your hospital bills, Noelle.”
“He probably just hates paperwork.”
Lisa rolled her eyes so hard I thought they’d get stuck.
“Or... he cares and he’s bad at it.”
I threw a pillow at her. “Stop.”
She dodged it and grinned. “Come on. What did he look like? Tall? Suit? Rude jawline?”
“Your so annoying.”
“That’s not an answer.”
She sat next to me and bumped my shoulder.
“You’re okay though? Really?”
“Yeah. Head hurts. But I’m okay.”
“Good.” She stood up and went back to the kitchen.
“Because if Mr. Cold CEO did anything to hurt you, I’d have words with him.”
I laughed. “You and what army?”
“The army of best friends who make very good soup.” She held up the pot. “Now eat. And tell me again... what was his email?”
I groaned. This was going to be a long 2 weeks.
