Party Animals

I spend the entire day in bed. Sleeping for the most part. Dreaming about sirens, flashing lights and prison cells. As if the night in the uncomfortable cell wasn’t frustrating enough, now my sleep is repeatedly disturbed by police. I can’t catch a break. Kate finally convinced me to go out, so she went out to buy necessities while I catch up on my beauty sleep. After a few hours of restless sleep, I decide it’s time to get out of my dark room and become a functioning human. Well as functioning as I can be. I wrap an oversized, fluffy blanket around my petite body to keep the warmth from my bed with me. I’m absolutely starving so I make my way to the kitchen. Our fridge is always full of food that my housemates buy. I rarely go grocery shopping, it’s boring. Today’s breakfast is being eaten at 4 pm and my choice of food is grilled cheese toast. Easy to prepare and ridiculously delicious! I don’t even get to finish preparing it when Kate skips into the kitchen. “Good afternoon lazy butt,” she laughs as she watches me stuff my face with my toast while being wrapped up into a human version of a burrito. “Don’t judge me,” I growl at her making hr laugh even more. Kate lifts a plastic bag full of goodies onto the counter. “I’m trying to save some money, so I only bought the things we absolutely need for a night out,” she begins and reaches her hand into the bag. She pulls out two bottles of vodka, a bag of crisps, two bottles of soda and a huge box of chocolates. My eyebrows knit together in confusion. “Kate those things aren’t absolutely necessary. That’s way too much drink for just the two of us,” I state. Kate rolls her eyes at me. “I’ve never heard you say too much drink,” she complains and opens a bottle of vodka. I watch her as she takes a glass and pour triple vodka into it. She tops the clear poison with some soda and hands it over to me. I push the glass away from me. “Gross, I need to eat something first, I want to get drunk, not die,” I explain. Kate shrugs and drinks the liquid with ease. She’s much more fond of alcohol than I am. I think it’s nasty. We begin getting ready for the party at around 6pm. It usually takes us about two hours to look our best. Kate begins with her hair while I apply my make-up. It’s been a while since I’ve gone to a party, so I decide to put extra effort into my appearance. Who knows, I might come across some eye candy. I create a masterpiece on my face, bronze eyeshadow with gold glitter to compliment my green eyes and a bold red lip. I decide to curl my short brown hair to add some volume to it. For my outfit I go with simple ripped jeans and a nice red top. I usually skip heels but tonight I decide to wear a red pair to match my top and lipstick. Kate ties her long ginger hair up in a tight pony on the top of her head, she expresses her fun personality in her make-up. It’s bright and colourful. She picks a little more daring outfit which hugs her curves in all the right ways, a leather skirt and a matching top. She dances across the room, giving me a personal fashion show. I laugh, clapping my hands. This is why we are friends. Kate and I are both goofy characters. We call a taxi a few hours after having our own little party in the house. Kate stumbles ahead of me as we try make it into the taxi without falling on our faces. We tell the taxi driver our destination, which isn’t far from our home, but Kate and I chose to wear heels, so we aren’t walking. “Whose party are we going to anyway?” I ask Kate, who’s singing along to a song on the radio. “Some guy from college, he’s got a sports scholarship,” she begins. “I heard he’s super hot!” she adds, throwing her hands in the air. I laugh at her, Kate has had enough to drink for the night. When we reach the destination, it’s already very busy. Girls in tight dresses wander around the lawn aimlessly, leaving very little to the imagination. People flood in and out of the opened doors carrying all sorts of alcoholic drinks. I spot Amber, a friend of ours talking to some guy at the door. We thank the taxi driver and hop out to join this huge circus. A few guys walk past us, eyeing us up and down. I stick up my middle finger at them and laugh. We slowly make our way over to Amber as our heels are restricting our movement. When she sees us, she jumps up and squeals. “Oh My Gee! I haven’t seen you in like forever!” she shouts over the loud music. Kate and I exchange looks, we literally saw this girl like two days ago. Amber gives us both long, awkward hugs. Her hair extensions get caught in my earring making me flinch and I can smell the fake tan from her. It’s almost like this girl bathes in fake tan instead of water. “We got to go do shots!” she shouts, taking Kate and I by our hands and leading us inside, leaving the man she was talking to outside on his own. We continue the night like any other party. We drink, dance and flirt our way through the hours of the night. I can tell that the party is beginning to get a little out of hand, but who cares? I keep drinking any drink that is shoved into my hands like it’s water. I’ve had a rough few days and this is certainly making me forget about it, as well as forget who I am or how I got here. I stumble through the hall, unable to walk from the shoes and alcohol. I make the wise decision to just take them damn shoes off and leave them somewhere, never to be seen again. I wave goodbye to my shoes as I walk into the bathroom in which Kate is throwing up. Typical night out, Kate always goes “full send”. I just rub her head and leave again. I know I should be there for her, but the sound of vomit makes my stomach turn, I can’t risk getting sick too. So I decide to sit in the hall and wait for Kate to come out. Naked men run past, jumping over my head as if I was some sort of obstacle on their path to success. Students never fail to amuse me. A girl walks past holding a branch while her friend tries to convince her she isn’t a wizard. This night took a turn, there’s definitely some drugs going around. I’m not into that. So I gather up all my strength and get up from the floor. I grab Kate and proceed to leave the party. Except we can’t. Because when I try shove past the crowd to get to the door, I’m welcomed by an annoyingly familiar face. I squint my eyes to make them go into focus, and before I can register who the man standing before me is, I hear someone shout “Police!”
