CHAPTER THREE: THE CHASE

I was so surprised that the darkness didn't just surround me- it consumed me. I felt weightless, yet there was something cold breathing down my neck.

“Elena…” A voice said in a whisper, very low and serpentine, dripping with malice

I awoke, gasping for air as reality dawned on me; my breath skipped, and my legs burned.

The words Kael said to me reverberated in my mind.

“You're the Prophecy, Elena. You're the one we’ve been waiting for”.

As I was escaping from the shadow fang, the words kept echoing in my ears.

Right behind us, the howls of the Shadow Fang echoed, each one very closer than the last.

“Faster, Elena” Luca barked, his voice sharp.

“I'm trying” I yelled back, nearly tripping over because of an exposed root.

The forest was very alive with noise, most especially with the growls of our pursuers and the occasional roar sent shivers down my spine.

Blade suddenly grabbed my arm and we continued on the race without looking back. I was looking at the stones and dirt flying when Blade tapped me.

“Focus” Blade growled, his grip very steady but bruising.

“No problem then,” I said tearing my arm free from his grip

As we raced deeper into the forest, the oppressive energy of the Shadow Fang seemed like it had curled around me like smoking. I was choking but could not talk. I was trying to signal Blade on what was happening to me, but he was not looking in my direction, and I slumped. Blade thought I was joking.

“Elena, what are you doing on the floor? Come, let's leave this place!” He screamed.

I could hear his voice but could not say a word. He came closer and pushed me, but I was not acting like I was alive.

Blade could not believe his eyes. Is she dead? How can the one meant to save us die” He said aloud and ran to announce that I was dead.

I was still lying there helplessly alone in the forest when a mysterious being appeared. His ora was so commanding and the tension I had intensified. I was still hearing the growls of the Shadow Fang. They were close now but don't know why they’ve not seen me.

“Hello”..The mysterious figure said..

I managed to raise my head but could not talk..

“You're not saying anything,” The mysterious figure said again.

“I could not utter even a word. I was even battling to stand up from where I was lying.

Immediately, the mysterious figure came closer and fixed his eyes on mine..As he was looking at me, I was regaining my strength and could no longer hear the growls of the Shadow Fang.

He stretched his hand towards me when he saw I was looking well.

“Stand,” he said. I stood up immediately. This figure was really looking so mysterious that I could not behold him. I bowed my head because I could not behold him.

“Elena, I’m not here to hurt you. I'm here to help you. I’ve been watching you from afar and there's something I want to show you. Follow me”. He said.

“Follow you where” I asked, looking confused.

“Just follow me. I’ve got to show you,” he said, his voice very calm and soothing.

I stood, torn on what to do.

A voice inside of me was saying I should follow him while another that is more louder said I shouldn't.

“I won't harm nor kill you. Let's go” He persuaded.

I decided to follow him, to bear whatever will be the outcome of following him.

“Let's go,” I said, ready to follow.

He gave a sly smile, and it sent a signal to me that there was danger on the way.

He took the lead and I followed suit. As we were going, something was dragging my spirit backward. I felt so much dragged that I paused.

Unbeknownst to me, Blade had arrived with Kael and had been watching everything happening from afar. I never knew until I decided to follow this mysterious being.

We walked a distance, and the mysterious figure had not said a word to me. I was still feeling something dragging me, but this time, I was also feeling the presence of a being walking behind us.

“Please where are you taking me to?” I asked, my voice shaking.

“Don't worry, we’re always there. I have something special that I want to show you, and you’ll be glad that I did,” he said.

The fear in me was reduced because his words were so soothing and convincing

We kept walking down and he was not saying anything to me. I was still feeling the way I was feeling when I agreed to follow him.

From where we were standing, I could see a hut, and we were walking down to the hut.

As we were approaching the hut, the birthmark on my wrist started becoming hot and red. As we were approaching further, it was becoming hotter and red. This was a sign I always get whenever I am approaching danger that could take my life.

Immediately, the birthmark was getting hot and was making me uncomfortable.

I stopped and tapped the mysterious being I’d been walking with.

“Where are you taking me to, and what did you want to show me? Do it now because I want to go back,” I said, authoritatively.

“It's time to strike,” He said in a low voice, not knowing that I heard him.

It was then that I knew the truth I was in danger and needed to escape

I was still deep in thought when he interrupted my thought.

“Elena, you said you want to go back right” He mockingly said

Before I could say a word, he opened his mouth and spit out fire from his mouth to consume me.

I did not know what to do seeing the fire coming. I stretched my hand towards the fire, and it quenched..

I can see the shock in his face. I was also surprised that only the hand I stretched quenched the fire coming from the mouth of this figure.

He did it for the second time. I still stretched out my hand and the fire quenched.

Just then, Kael and Blade appeared from nowhere.

“Elena, please run. He is evil”, They echoed together.

As soon as the mysterious figure saw and heard Kael and Blade’s voices, he turned and disappeared but dropped a note at my feet. It reads:

“They said you're the savior, I’ll kill you before you save”

“What's the meaning of this? Since I transformed into a

wolf, it has been from one challenge to another. Who is this strange figure and what did he want from me?”.
