CHAPTER FIVE: THE BATTLE LINE

1094 Words
The mysterious figure’s words reverberated in my mind: “The battle has been drawn. Get ready” I felt a chill run down my spine. What did he mean? Did I transform into a wolf just to fight? As I stood there, pondering on the situation, I immediately heard rustling in the bushes; I turned to see Kael emerging from the bush. “Elena, I’ve been searching for you. What happened? Kael asked, his voice so calm and his eyes scanning the area. “The mysterious figure”, I replied, still trying to process everything. “He said the battle line has been drawn. I don't understand what he's talking about. Kael's expression changed. “I'm not happy that all these are happening to you. I need to get you a safe place now so that you can be safe for me”. But I hesitated. “Wait, what's going on? Who is that mysterious figure, and what does he want from me?” “I’ll explain everything to you but first of all, I need to get you out of here” I nodded, and together we set off through the forest. As we walked, I felt I was being watched, and all my mind could set on was the mysterious man out there watching me. “So where are we going? What's the plan?”. I tried very hard to keep my voice steady. “I’ll take you to my pack’s hideout,” Kael replied. “I assure you, you’ll be safe there. I just nodded but I wasn't so sure. The whole thing was not settling well in my spirit. I observed one thing: that mysterious figure seemed to be always ahead of me. Then what about the Shadow Fang? I believe they're still out there waiting for who to strike. As we approached the pack which is the hideout, I could feel a strange energy coming out from within. It was looking like the air was so charged with anticipation. One of the things that has been happening to me ever since I transformed into a wolf is the ability to sense things even before they happen. “What's going on?” I asked my senses on high alert. Kael's expression was grim. “My pack is gathering; they're really preparing. They know the battle line has been drawn. You're not the only one who knows that the battle line has been drawn”. I swallowed hard, my heart still racing with anticipation. What did the future hold for me? Am I really ready for what is to come? As I entered the hideout, I was met with a lot of faces, all of them were looking at me with a mix of concern and curiosity. Out of all of them, one was looking at me with so much hatred and anger. I tried to remove my face but hers was still very steady on me. I could not bear it so I reached out to Kael. “Kael, there is this one of your pack members that has been making me uncomfortable ever since I came in. Is there something you told them about me? Kael smiled. “Which of them?” He asked. I pointed in her direction, but her eyes were still fixed on mine. Kael smiled again, this time tapping on my shoulder. “I know why she's acting that way. She was meant to be my Luna, but I am yet considering if she can fit in such a position before making her my Luna. She may think you're here to take her position” Kael explained. I was wondering why she would be thinking that way. “Can I go and meet her so that I can clear the air for her to know that I am not here to take what belongs to her?” I asked Kael, so worried. I did that because the way she was looking at me, she could poison me. But if I was to tell myself the truth, deep inside me, I was already growing something for Kael. The way he talks to me takes care of me, and stands in the gap for me amazes me. I was already falling in love but had to prove that nothing was happening. “Elena, you don't have to do that. She’ll be fine” Kael assured me. Kael assisted me to the apartment he had arranged for me in the hideout. I moved in and loved how everywhere was looking well arranged. “Kael.. all these for me??. A hideout is not meant to be this beautiful but mine is different”. I decided to take a nap because I was so exhausted. Immediately I lay my head, I heard a knock on my door. “Who could that be?” I thought I opened the door, and something left me dumbfounded. I saw one of the wolves standing in front of me with a tray of food. I could hardly recognize the face but I knew it was one of the faces that glanced at me with curiosity and concern. I was standing looking at him but was lost in thought. “Kael said I should give it to you,” He said, interrupting my thought. He handed the tray to me and turned and left. How did Kael know that I was so exhausted, not just exhausted but very hungry? “Kael of my heart” I whispered to myself As I sat down to eat, I kept a lot of sound outside where I was staying, I remembered Kael told me about the preparation for the battle. I hurriedly ate the food so that I could go and join them in preparation for the battle. I was feeling sleepy, but I had to eat and leave so that I could join them and get things done. As soon as I was done, I hurriedly left to where I was hearing the sounds and different voices. As I got there, all the wolves were very ready, they were almost done just tidying up some things. I was new in the pack and was not meant to be there if not for Kael, who brought me there to stay for security's sake. I was still looking around for Kael; all of a sudden, something that sounded like a bomb was thrown into the middle of the wolves already gathered and prepared for war. Immediately, that center caught fire, and everything went black.
