6. Scheduling an interview.

Several hours of roaming in Queen Street, I reached my house all shivering in fear. Maze must have come by now and filled her ears against me. I knocked over the door and bit my inner cheeks hoping to not get locked outside itself. My heartbeat arose listening to the sound of unlocking the knob. Despite hopes, I knew I was doomed. They are going to do something worse tonight with me. I only hope to survive through their torture. “Mrs. Carter.” My so-called mother was standing in front of me, holding a belt in her hand and Maze was standing beside her with tears in her eyes. Now I wonder how she gets so many tears in her eyes when she only knows to give me the pain. “Came?” I looked at Mrs. Carter who held my arms and dragged me inside. Ahh! “It is hurting,” I muttered, moaning and wriggling. “Who was he? Your boyfriend? Where is he? Call him to apologize to Maze,” Mrs. Carter pushed me, glaring at me. “No, he was a stranger. He only saved me from the humiliation that your daughter and her friends were going to do so,” I said through tears welled in my eyes. “I don't even know where he disappeared after it. So how can I call him?” “No, she is lying. That guy came out of the blue and slapped me. Aurora was standing beside him but instead of saying something, she encouraged him, holding his arms. Not only this, they both even made fun of me in front of all my friends.” Maze's tears rolled down her cheeks. She locked her strands behind her ear lobe and closed her eyes. “See the slap mark if you don't believe so I can call Julia and Daniel. They will tell you the truth.” “What? Please don't lie like this. If you want to punish me, do so but by lying you are only degrading yourself,” I shouted, trying to stand. “How dare you try to malign my daughter? She is not like you.” I closed my eyes as Mrs. Carter hit me with the belt. “Ahh! It is hurting, please don't do this. You also know that I am not capable of hurting your daughter.” But instead of listening to my plea, Mrs. Carter pulled me through my hair and slammed my head at the glass table. “You are not ever going to change, aren't you?” I closed my eyes getting hit with the edge of the table but it doesn't satisfy Mrs. Carter or her daughter. They both were enjoying my pain while some servants were looking at me pitifully. “Close her in the basement,” Mrs. Carter said, storming out of there. “Tell that new guy to not mess with me otherwise the next time, he won't be able to walk on his own,” Maze walked away after kicking my head. I closed myself and kept moaning in the pain. “Aurora,” said Brett Gardner, one of the housekeepers and my friend. “Please don't lock me there,” I muttered, tears sliding down on my cheeks as Brett gave me a helpless look. I closed my eyes and tried to stand but fell and again got hit with the table. “Mom,” I winced. Brett caressed my cheeks and helped me to stand. “Aura, I am sorry but you know if I don't listen to Mrs. Carter, she will fire me.” “I would give you a lamp so you don't have to worry about the darkness,” she said. I hummed, picking the blazer that Alvis left with me, and dragged my sandals towards the basement. “Can you please give my books to me?” Brett hummed, patting my cheeks. “Please get the job and move out of this hell.” I hummed with a smile over my face as she closed me in the basement. But unlike other days, I wasn't crying. I was thinking about Alvis. Who was he? And where did he go? ************ Asher's POV “Why is my head throbbing?” I screamed, opening my eyes as the sunlight hit my eyes. “Good, you wake up,” Lizzie said as I looked at her with amazement. She was standing in a bathrobe. I glanced around myself and found out that I am in her house. Wasn't I in the club? Drinking and kissing the bar girls? And then Lizzie came, we both kissed and made out in my private room but how am I here? Did something else happen last night? No, it can't. “Don’t think much, I got a call from my editor, so I left in the cab but once I came home, I found you waiting for me in front of my house though you were not in good condition perhaps you got drunk after I left,” Lizzie said, kissing me as I grabbed her through her waist and hovered upon her. “Is it? Or were you planning to drug me and get some business information? So you can sell on the news.” “Come on! Asher, I don't fall on that level if I would want to get your interview, I would get it. And yes, be thankful to me that I took you in else you must have been sleeping on the street,” she narrowed her eyes, keeping her hands over my chest and pushing me away. “Got an attitude after spending a night with me.” I pulled her over me and locked her hair behind her earlobe. Her eyes glowed with mischievousness as she trailed her fingers over my chest. “Yes, you can say that company effect,” she grinned. “Yes, I can see this.” “Is it? What about another session? I have two hours on my hands,” Lizzie curled her lips, trailing her tongue over my cheek. “Babes, I have work to do but are you not expecting so much from me? I remember I showed you in the car,” I arched my brows. “I remember well but I also remember how we both couldn't resist each other last night,” she said. Ignoring her, I moved away from there though it was hard to resist her. She had some charm that desired me to f**k her for the umpteenth time. However, I had some meetings to attend, so I wore my clothes and looked around the bed. “Give me my blazer.” “Which blazer? You were not wearing it,” she said with a frown. Did I again? No, it can't be true. I must have dropped it in my car. Shrugging my thoughts, I was about to move out but stopped when Lizzie hugged me from the back. “Am I your girlfriend?” “Hang on! Where did this term come from?” I arched my brows, turning towards her. “See if you want to say that we spent last night together also about making out in my room then let me tell you that I didn't force you for this.” “I remember you came to the club and took steps towards me.” “So if you want to keep things till the bed, all okay with me but you want more from me, go and find someone else, I don't have time for this emotional torture.” Lizzie closed her eyes and said, “You surely know to keep someone on their toes. Well fine with me but I don't think that I am some kind of a pushover.” I gave her a boring look and moved from there. Several hours later, I was sitting in my cabin and going through a file. “So she is Aurora Carter, belongs from one of the wealthiest families of the Queen but she studies on the scholarship,” I asked as my manager was standing in front of me with a composed look. “Yes sir, apart from her there are two more candidates whose profile is good for the secretary position. We can make the final decision after the interview,” he said. “Give me more details about this girl,” I said as she seemed familiar for some reason. The manager was about to say but I stopped him by showing my hand. “Schedule an interview today itself. I want to see how this girl will do without preparation,” I said. My manager hummed and left from there. I closed my eyes and leaned my head against the chair. To be continued.
