Jimin stopped dead in his tracks and carefully read the sign again. Then he smiled, an immediate surge of excitement and eagerness flowing through him. He passed. It was a beautiful day in Seoul, quite a spacious area where lingers continuous motions of movement. Today students could be heard talking and texting in the streets with devices glued to their fingers. The flock of birds in the nearby buildings chirping loudly and often drowned in the sea of technology. Out here in the city, such sights and sounds were common, but as of today comes a new happening.
"Damn, seven hours of practicing surely swells my muscles, I can barely move my legs." He complained softly as he takes a small step outside of the university alongside his best friend.
"You're legs are moving so why complain?"
"It's just an expression Taehyung. It's hard keeping myself at my teacher's expectations, it can't be helped. After all, I have to pass all my classes to graduate." He said turning his face to his tall friend. Standing there in front of the entrance, Taehyung pokes at the older's arm.
"Hyung, you coming?"
"Where to?"
"The National Library." Jimin softly smiled at the younger and walked ahead of him with his hands inserted in his pockets. Typical! Kim Taehyung, one of the smartest students in Korea National University of Arts goes to the place of mystery.
"I just have to return a book." Taehyung reminded before entering the entrance. Jimin replies back, "I'll wait out here, just don't take too long."
Nothing out of the ordinary, a building emitting off the sense of "national" and bewilderness. A sudden gust of gentle breeze flowing through Jimin's platinum blonde hair giving him the feeling of demand to enter the library instead of waiting.
"It's been a while since I last came here. I was focused on my performance I didn't have the time to visit the library to study. Although I did manage to pass all my class in a jiffy."
As he walked inside, a sudden feeling rumbled in his stomach delivering that peculiar suspicion. Every step he took, it gradually grew causing the young blonde to shiver. Not until that white and mechanical machine decided to pop into his view to save his suspicion.
I'm thirsty...Let's see...Maybe strawberry milk.
He walked pass the spacious zone and approached the vending machine with hands searching in his pocket for any chance of coins. He saw his choice of drink standing in front of him while he scoops out the necessary amount of money in his palms. Reaching to the edge of his pocket, one coin falls to the floor creating waves of echoes.
He took a moment to listen to the echoing noise of the coin rolling through the darkened hallway.
Dropped it.
When something suddenly let out a gentle sound of words that's difficult to decipher in a millisecond and glittering particles of gold. A manly and gentle voice calling out to...him. His voice felt so familiar and alluring to his ears.
And that's when Taehyung couldn't find a single trace of Jimin's presence outside nor inside.
"Hyung? Jimin hyung?"
Stairs leading up to the ominous atmosphere. Jimin walked up the steps and stopped shortly to see a door at the very end of the hallway. He carefully read the sign.
Important Documents Reference Room
No Unauthorized Personnel
He recites the title mentally with question. Then a click was produced from its doorknob. Jimin hesitated for a second and attempted to open the door without thought. The door widely opens revealing the scent of the old and the view of shelves standing across the room containing old documents and books.
He looks left and right.
"Hyung? What are you doing in here?"
"Uah! Yah! Taehyung, don't sneak up on me like that! You nearly gave me a heart attack." Holding his chest to calm his heart rate. After Taehyung questions in curiosity Jimin answers with ease.
"A voice? Gold sparkles?"
"Yeah! I know it was in here! He was whispering some words that I can't even understand. And it was a gust of gold that led me here!"
"Gold dust with a voice of a man led you here?" Taehyung repeated when the sound of a book dropped from its shelf. Their attention was brought to the sound and attempted to crouch.
Taehyung reads the title.
********"Boy in Love?"
"What is it?" Jimin asked laying his head against the young's shoulders. Taehyung opens the cover and turns to the first page of the book. What's written was something that Jimin can't comprehend, except for Taehyung.
"It's an ancient Ch- no...Written by a Korean writer back in the ancient times."
"So an ancient Korean novel?"
Taehyung furrowed his brows to read the first sentence of the page, "And thus, the boy of legend opened the door to another world."
"That's so cool, you can read ancient Chinese! As expected from a genius."
Taehyung continues to read the story.
❝ This is the story of a young boy who single-handedly confessed his love to the man who's soon destined to save history from the actions of darkness and gained the power to make all his dreams come true.
The story itself is an incantation and whomever reads it gains the protagonist's power to have their wishes granted.
This is because once they turn the first page, the story will become real and begin.❞
"What's this suppose to mean?" Taehyung looked over to his best friend with question hovering his eyes. Jimin shrugged his shoulders and replied, "If you can't understand it, how am I supposed to knowー"
Jimin was about to finish his sentence when a sudden burst of gold light surrounded their bodies. The light felt warm to the touch, and its hue dazzling to blind one's eye.
And little did they know that their bodies have landed painfully to an unknown ground filled with drought and dead plants. The baby blue sky carrying the clouds across the land, the scent of the air so unfamiliar Jimin's the first to wake up, then Taehyung.
"Taehyung...Where on earth are we?" Taehyung adjusts and attempts to pinch Jimin's forearm to see whether or not they are in a fantasy or reality, "Does it hurt?" Jimin immediately reacted to the action and punched Taehyung in the stomach.
"Yes, IT HURTS!"
"Ow, ow, ow. That hurts. Way too much to be a dream."
Jimin whined," Whether it's a dream or not... I was simply getting myself a strawberry milk and now we are here in this crappy land we don't know of because of this stupid book you've read Taehyung!"
"It's not my fault that you were in that room in the first place! Besides you weren't even suppose to be there in the first place, so why put the blame on me?! Iー"
"Ah! I am so thirsty, so hungry for Fish cakes. What do we do Taeー" If he were to describe his current situation, the term "petrifying" is perfect to detail the horror because of Taehyung being tightly and roughly embraced by a pirate-looking trader from behind.
"Taehyung!"
"H-hyung!" A trader holding a knife in his hands, spoke, "Ah, at first I thought you two were hot babes, but instead we got some rich-looking men with good looks. These ones are real prizes."
The other said, "We should get a good price when we sell them."
His thought process worked unstably, Taehyung trapped in the trader's embrace with a knife attached to his throat, whimpering as the sharp edge dug into his skin pouring fresh blood. Jimin's body sored from his seven-hour dance practice and his stamina at rock bottom.
Without stamina left in his legs, with Taehyung's life on the line, Jimin barged to the man and kicked him in the crotch giving him the opportunity to save Taehyung from the man's embrace. As time gave him the chance, Jimin stole the knife and punctured the man's forearm. Taehyung pushed him and grabbed Jimin's wrist to follow his pace of escape.
Not when a hand was felt around Jimin's ankles, "You're not going anywhere, you piece of shit."
"Hyung!" Bawling in tears of horror.
Jimin pushed him away from his pulled figure. He yelled, "Go! Taehyung RUN! Save yourself, I'll hold them off! Just run!" The slave trader pulled the older's ankles to his figure, unsheathing his extra knife from his pocket. Topping Jimin, he readies his weapon and his mind went completely blank knowing that soon his life will be taken. Saving Taehyung is a relief, as long as he's safe then he doesn't regret anything. He made his family proud, he helped done charity for those in need and showed his appreciation and love to all he's close with.
He lived a good life when a blast of light unexpectedly exploded around the slave traders including himself and Taehyung. Once the light faded, the slave traders were stoned to the ground with no life in their eyes but consciousness in their breath.
"W-what just happened?"
"Hyung!" Taehyung came and dug his bawled face to the crook of his neck, "You i***t, you should've run."
"No! You're the one who's stupid! You don't know how scared I was when that slave trader was about to take your life. If you're gone, how am I going to live my life?!"
Watching tears overflow his lids, Jimin began to regret his decision of letting the slave trader take his life just to save his best friend. His chest tightened and embraced Taehyung in his arms, "I'm sorry Taehyung, I shouldn't have done that."
"But seriously, how did you do that?"
"Do what?"
"That glow. You're hair literally glowed gold, not just your hair, but your whole body glowed... like bright as the sun!"
Jimin's gaze crept up to Taehyung and froze when he suddenly remembered the phrase read by Taehyung. He recited.
"The story itself is an incantation and whomever reads it gains the protagonist's power to have their wishes granted..."
"..."
"We're inside the book Taehyung..."
"And you're the main character of the book..."
"Shit."
