Liam’s POV.
“You want another one?” Marc asks, already headed to the bar, to get us new beers. We’ve been at the frat party for a couple of hours now. It’s a fine party and all, but I’m kind of bored. Ever since we left Peanut’s apartment, Marc had been talking about Lily non-stop! I mean.. We get it, dude! You like her! I almost roll my eyes. He’s been like this ever since they hooked up the first time, but apparently, Lily made it very clear that she is not looking for a relationship right now. Which in my ears doesn’t sound that bad! So you get to hook up with a girl, and the no relationship part is her idea. Win-win if you ask me..
“Isn't it funny though, that Lily and Jess ran into each other and hit it off?” Marc laughs as he comes back with our beers. “Sure, dude.” I’m exasperated with this topic, though come to think of it, it is nice to see Jessie with a girl around her. She never had that many friends, and some of the girls around school were kind of bitches towards her. She mostly just hung out with us, or alone listening to music, either in her headphones or on her record player in her room. She’s such a nice girl, she deserves to have good people around her, and Lily seems to be, at least from what I know of her.
“So what about you? Find any girl you wanna pursue tonight?” Marc asks, looking around the room. “No, man. I’m kind of over the girls coming to every one of these parties.” I answer honestly. Sure, I’m a guy and an easy lay isn’t bad, but it’s also boring and predictable. I know I’m not a bad looking guy, and as the quarterback of our football team, getting girls is not a challenge. But I’m honestly kind of over all the superficial crap.
“I’m gonna go say hi to some of the guys..” I say, moving towards the backyard. Just as I turn around, my eyes catch sight of a blond amongst a group of girls coming through the front door. “s**t!... Shit.” I grit my teeth. “What??” Marc asks from behind me, putting his hand on my arm. “Heather is here!” I see Marc look around before his sight falls in their direction. “s**t, dude.. Wanna get out of here?” He asks, knowing that the last thing I wanna deal with right now is her! “Yeah, let’s go out the back..” I say and he follows me out. Some of our teammates are in the backyard, so we say a quick hello. “You guys heading out already?” Dylan asks, he’s the team's biggest linebacker and also a member of this frat house. “Yeah, man. I gotta bounce, Heather just walked in, and I don’t need the drama tonight..” I answer. All the guys know about my chaotic relationship with my ex. “No worries. See you at practice on Monday.” We give a quick handshake and then Marc and I are out..

I wake up and stretch looking at my phone, it’s past 10 am. I’m well rested, we didn’t get home that late after the party stopped abruptly, for us anyway. So, luckily, I’m also hangover free, since we never really got the chance to drink that much. I get out of bed and stretch one more time before going out of my room to get some morning coffee. “Good morning,” Marc says, not even turning around from the coffee machine as he hears me coming. “Morning.. Coffee’s not ready?” I ask. “Nah, dude. I think it might be broken.” He turns and looks at me for a second before continuing “Wanna go with me to the diner? We can get coffee there, and also show some moral support on Jess’ first day..” HA! He can’t fool me, sure he wants to support his sister, but he could talk to her later after her shift. He just wants to go so he can see Lily at the same time. I’m not gonna bust him though. He’s my best friend and I’m up to being a wingman to make him happy. Also, the diner has good coffee. “Sure, man. Let me just take a shower real quick..” I say, patting him on the back before turning towards the bathroom.
I strip down, and go to stand under the hot stream of water, washing my hair and body. I get out and dry myself off with a towel before fastening it around my waist, going back to my room to get dressed. 10 minutes later I’m dressed and ready to go. I smirk to myself as I notice Marc's hair being styled. He never styles his hair. The guy really is smitten. “Let’s go.” I say walking straight for the door, and Marc taking long strides to catch up with me.
As we walk into the diner, I see Lily behind the counter. She smiles as she looks up to see us entering, when the bell above the door rings. I say hi, before going to a booth to sit down. Instead of following me straight to the booth, Marc goes to the counter and Lily. About 5 minutes pass before he joins me. “She’s gonna send Jess over to take our orders..” His smile is so big, I’m almost blinded by his white teeth. “What’s got you smiling like that?” I tease. “I asked Lily if she wanted to hang out later.” the smile on his face not changing. “I’m guessing she said yes, then..” I raise my brows. “Well, she didn’t say no.. Just said she promised Jess that she would go shopping with her, but that she would text me later..” He smiles, looking hopeful. We both pick up our menus.
“Welcome Mama J’s. Can I take your orders?” I look up and straight up stare at Jessie! She normally wears big sweatshirts or oversize hoodies. I don’t think I’ve seen her in anything else other than that. She’s wearing a black t-shirt that might as well have been painted on her body, and let me tell you! That’s some kind of body! She’s voluptuous in all the right places. I can’t help but look her up and down, and that’s when I notice that she is also wearing a damn skirt! It goes right beneath the knees, showing off her calves. The sight of her makes me swallow a lump forming in my throat.
Thank god Marc is here, since my vocal cords seem to be gone for a moment. “Hey Sis. How’s it going?” He asks her. “Great, I think..” She giggles. I can’t help but smile at her. What the f*ck?? I do not understand what is happening right now. I close my eyes for a second, just to shake this weird feeling that suddenly appeared. It’s just Jessie, for god’s sake! The little sister of my best friend, only right now she doesn’t seem that little anymore. The woman in front of me is not a little girl anymore! Eager to get her away from the table so I can think again, I almost choke out “Coffee!” Both Marc and Jessie seems confused for a second and I get the feeling that I was interrupting a conversation between them. Get yourself together, man! “Sorry, It’s just that the coffee machine at home apparently broke this morning, and I haven’t had my morning coffee yet, guess that makes me kind of desperate..” I try to redeem myself a bit. “Oh! Well, if anyone can understand the need for coffee first thing, it’s me!” Jessie beams at us, “I’ll get you both coffee, before coming back to take your orders.. Be right back..” And then she’s off, leaving our table. I can’t help but watch her walk away…
