Chapter One.
Jessie’s POV.
“Jess! get your butt out of bed. It’s moving day!” I hear my dad yelling from downstairs. I grawl down on my pillow, and try to wake my body up. I was up so late last night packing the last of my things that I'm taking with me to the city where I'm gonna live right next door to my brother Marc and his best friend Liam. They moved there last year when they were my age and going off to college. Today I finally join them in the citylife, which kind of makes me laugh - Citylife! It sounds like I'm going to New York or something, HA, not at all. It’s just the central part of the small town we already live in. The only difference is that we grew up on this farm on the outskirts of town, with a lot of fields and not that much else. I can’t wait to begin my new life with actual life around me. But i do worry about dad though. When I leave today, he will be back here all alone.
I made sure to fill up the freezer with every favorite meal he has, so I know he will be having food for at least a couple of weeks, and I’ll make sure I’ll be back for a visit before hand. When the woman who was supposed to be our mom left when I was two and Marc was three, dad was kind of helpless and lost, being left alone with two little crying kids, who missed their mom. But after some time, he picked up the pieces and rocked it as a single dad! Though cooking never really took for him, so as I grew older it became my thing, I watched a lot of cooking shows and read a lot of cook books to learn, and by the time i was about 9 years old, I could make a pretty mean meal, if I say so myself, and dad, brother and even Liam would tell you the same.
I stretch out my entire body before I flip over on my back and sit up in bed, looking around at all the boxes I'm taking with me, sighing, but I can feel the excitement in my stomach. This is going to be great! I catch a look at myself in the mirror across the room, and flinch a bit at what I see. My dark brown, almost black curly hair is sticking out everywhere on my head from my yet again restless night of sleep. I can't remember the last time I slept well. Also, I have huge bags under my eyes from the lack of sleep!
“Jess! you up?” my dad yells again, “Yeah pop, I’m up..” I yell back. “ Good. I’m making coffee”. “Great! I'm just gonna jump in a quick shower and get dressed, then I'll be down.” “Okay, Sweet pea, we leave in an hour, don’t take too long.” Dad is going to drive me there, so he can also see Marc before coming back here.

As I'm descending the stairs, I smell the fresh coffee, and follow the delightful smell into our kitchen. “Good morning pop. coffee smells great.” Dad walks over and gives me a kiss on my forehead, saying “Morning Sweet pea, got any sleep last night?” “Not much, had to pack the last of my stuff and you know i don’t sleep well.” I see the fleeting concern in his eyes before his eyes fall to my shirt as his mouth turns upwards into a smile. “Stealing my favorite shirt I see.” He says, raising his eyebrows jokingly. Gesturing to the old vintage t-shirt with the British band Queen on it, “Come'on Pop, this old thing”, I laugh a little and continue “ You know the shirt doesn’t fit you anymore and I love the Queens just as much as you do! It’s only fitting that I wear it! Such an iconic shirt shouldn’t just hang on a hanger in a dark closet, that doesn’t give it justice!” “Fair point Sweet pea, okay you can have the shirt.” He says, lingering in front of me for a while before pulling me in for a hug. “I’m gonna miss you like crazy Pea.. I can’t believe you are all grown up, you look just like your mother!” I flinch as he says it. I hate being compared to that woman. Sure, some would say she was beautiful on the outside at least, but what kind of woman just up and leaves her whole family. Not one worth mentioning in my book! I don’t want to be anything like her. But whereas my dad and Mark have light brown hair and blue eyes, I have very dark curly hair and deep brown eyes just like her. Though she was tall and thin, and I'm more petite at 5’5 feet tall with a lot of curves. Don’t know why I didn't get taller, my dad and Marc are both towering over me at well over 6’ feet. Marc is even taller than dad. I try to hide the fact that his last comment made me uncomfortable, so I put a smile on my face, lean my head back to look up at his face and say “I'm definitely going to miss you too, Pop!” “You probably have too much fun there, to even have time to miss your old man. But that doesn’t stop me from calling and bothering you all the time.” he laughs, lets go of me and moves to pour us some coffee. “You can call me all you want, but don’t be surprised if I call you first” I say, and nod my appreciation for the cup he puts in my hand.

As we pull up on the curb outside of the apartment building that I can call my new home, I see Marc standing outside in the doorway of the building. It’s a small building housing only 6 apartments; three bedrooms, ones on the left side of the building and two bedrooms, ones on the right side. Which is perfect since Marc lives with his best friend Liam, who grew up with us, so they need the extra room, whereas I don't need that much space since I'll be on my own, so we have the second floor to ourselves, with their apartment on one side and mine on the other. “Greetings from the north” my dad says, smiling big at Marc as he gets out of his truck with all my belongings packed up in the back, to head over and pull his son in for a big bear hug. As I step out of the truck I hear my brother saying “Let up Pop, I need oxygen to be able to help carry up Jess’ stuff.” “Hey there Lil’sis” he says, walking over to hug me. Grinning, I give him a big hug. We’ve always been close, it has always been the three of us against the world. “Hey there bro’man… come to help a sister out?” I ask, smiling widely. I take him in. I haven't seen him for awhile, since he’s been busy with school, football and citylife. He looks good, getting bigger with all the football and training I guess. “No place I'd rather be.” He says, giving me a wink. “Liam should be down soon to help get your stuff up to the apartment, I just woke him up before coming down here 10 minutes ago.” He informs, while going over and opens the back of the truck to start unloading boxes. “oh and the furniture got here yesterday.. didn’t know where you wanted what, so Liam and I will help move it around if you want.” “Sure, thanks” I say as I go to him to help with the unloading. I pick up a box and start for the apartment building. Just as my feet hit the doorstep, I’m stopped by something as I try to look around the box. A large arm is covering my arm on the box. “Wow there, no need to run me over with the box.” I Look up and see a smirking Liam towering over me and my box. I stagger backwards a step, feeling my mouth go dry. How could I have forgotten how freaking good looking Liam is. “Let me take that for you.” He says, taking the box out of my hands, turning around and heading back into the building while I stand here trying to catch my breath - What the heck just happened?
