Selena Moretti had always believed her life was quiet, manageable, and predictable. Her days were spent at the little café on Bellagio Street, where the smell of roasted coffee beans and freshly baked pastries filled the air, blending with soft jazz that drifted from the speakers. She liked it that way—safe, ordinary, unremarkable. Until today.
The moment he walked in, the ordinary shattered.
He moved with a confidence that demanded attention, though no one else in the café seemed to notice him. Dark hair, a tailored black coat, and eyes—grey, piercing, impossible to ignore. Selena’s heart stumbled. He wasn’t the kind of man who lingered in ordinary spaces, sipping coffee and pretending to read. He carried the kind of presence that altered the room without effort.
“Selena Moretti,” he said, his voice low, measured, almost a whisper yet somehow loud enough to make her stop mid-step.
Her fingers tightened around her mug. “Do I… know you?” she asked, striving to sound calm, to mask the thrum of panic—or was it curiosity?—racing through her chest.
He didn’t answer at once. He simply studied her, his gaze sharp and evaluating, like a predator assessing prey. There was a strange intensity in his stare, one that unsettled her deeply. And yet… it was intoxicating.
“Not yet,” he said finally, the smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth faint but undeniable. “But you will.”
Selena’s mind raced. How did he know her name? Why did he feel like danger itself—at once thrilling and terrifying? She wanted to step back, to retreat to the safety of her apartment, but something rooted her in place, a magnetic curiosity she couldn’t explain.
He moved with fluid confidence, taking the seat at a table across the café, though it felt more like a challenge than a casual choice. She kept stealing glances, pretending to scroll through her phone, but every time their eyes met, a jolt of something unnameable shot through her chest.
The bell over the door chimed again, signaling the world outside, but she barely noticed. When he finally stood and left, the faint scent of expensive cologne lingered in the air, and Selena’s pulse didn’t slow. The encounter had lasted mere minutes, but it felt like hours.
By the time she stepped into the cool evening air outside, the city seemed sharper and darker somehow, as if her life had tilted just slightly off its familiar axis. Rain-slicked streets gleamed under the streetlights, and shadows stretched long and hungry across the pavement. She told herself to forget him, to return to her simple routines—but she knew the truth: her life had changed forever.
Luca Romano was no ordinary man, and for reasons Selena could not yet understand, he had chosen her as part of his world. And worlds like his did not let go.......
