Chapter 4

1560 Words
That night, Logan can’t sleep, he feels agitated and irritated and decides to go for a walk. The brisk cold mountain air blows over the small town, as the stars and the almost full moon share their light with the earth underneath. Usually, by this time, Logan has made sure to be very warm, but tonight the cold didn’t seem to bother him. Alex’s glowing eyes stuck in his mind and the thought of becoming a werewolf made the air on his neck stand up. One of his neighbor's neighbor's dogs started to bark at him passing buy this is not unusual for the mutt to bark at him, but when he looked at him the mutt suddenly gave a cry and started to run in the opposite direction. What was that all about? He asks himself. He finds himself standing in front of the dark green door he left that morning. He cant recall he walked over to Alex and Jenn's house. The house is dark except for one light burning inside of the house. Just as he turns around, the door opens. Even before he looks over his shoulder, he knows who opened the door. “You are welcome to come in!” Alex’s voice came from behind him. “How did you know I was here?” he asks as he walks up the steps again. “I could smell you, and your anger and anxiety. You will also be able to!” she says as she closes the door behind the two of them. Logans takes the seat on the couch where he sat the very same morning. “Sorry I don’t know what I’m doing here.” He tries to excuse himself. “It’s normal, in fact, it would be weird if you didn’t feel this way.” “Is it just you?” “Yea, Jen had to go to work, you know night shift…” Alex puts on the kettle. “So on full moons you turn into wolves and run around eating people, or what do you do?” “Hahaha!” Alex burst out of laughter. “Not quite, some of us with control change and go for a hunt or just to run through the wilderness scouting and protecting the surrounding arias as a pack. The ones with no control get chained up and, yea, they have to wait it out. But in short, yes, everyone changes on a full moon.” “So with other words on other nights you can decide if you turn or not?” he asks her hesitantly. She presses her lips tighter and takes a seat on the coffee table opposite to him. “Not every wolf can change at will. Normal wolves that are not an alpha or a super-wolf can’t change during normal nights, they are bound to the night’s cycles. They are stronger, faster and some have stronger senses, but that is how far it goes. Our alpha is a black super-wolf, as you could have seen from his enormous size. ” “But you were almost just as big as he was, or is every werewolf that big?” “No, I’m part of that exemption. I’m also a super-wolf.” The kettle whistles in the background and she excuses herself. The fresh smell of roasted coffee beans fills the small house and Logan can’t get enough of the smell of it. His nose forces him to follow her to the kitchen. “Wow, that smells delicious!” Alex looks at him and tilts her head. “Could you smell that from where you were sitting?” “Yes” “Wow, that is weird, your senses are not supposed to be awake yet!” she says with a frown on her forehead. She takes his chin between her index finger and thumb and investigates his face while moving his head radically up and down and from side to side. A warm feeling runs over Logan and he feels memorized and he experiences a loss of control. She could do anything with him at that moment and he would allow it. Alex pulls herself up onto the counter and takes a seat on it with her legs dangling down, while taking in the aroma of the fresh warm coffee in her hands. “So you were saying you are a super-wolf; what’s that?” “Well, once every couple of years a special wolf is born, they are either black, white, silver or red. They are larger and stronger than any other wolf or alpha. They are very rare and only one of each is usually born every century or so.” Alex drops her head and a tear comes running down the side of her cheek. “What’s wrong?” “If I wasn’t a super-wolf, my family and friends would still be alive today. I was taken from my pack to be Nathan’s mate. When they didn’t want me to go, he went and killed my whole pack, leaving only me. I had to beg and promise to become his mate to allow Jen to live.” “He sounds like an asshole.” “Yea well, that asshole is now your alpha as well and you will need to meet him tomorrow. You will need the support of the whole pack when you turn for the first time. Sometimes the wolf inside of a persons turning for the first time takes over and then takes off with them, and if the hold is to strong they kill and destroy, as far as they go. Then there is a second problem. If the hold is to strong and the wolf is too strong, it can resist turning back to human and then the person is locked inside for eternity or till the wolf one day decides to let go." “Well, I don’t want that.” There needs to be a relationship or a partnership between the person and his wolf.” Logan says his good byes and starts making his way home. He feels a bit better after the talk with Alex but he still has so many questions. He turns around and looks back at the house in the distance. He doesn’t want to leave this place. Why is he drawn towards her the way he is? He doesnt not know for how long he had been standing there, but the constant switching on and off of one of her neighbors neighbor's lights pulls him back to reality. I need to get home. Going up to his home, he sees a familiar car standing in front of the house. He has been in that car far more times than he could count. Noah! Logan turns around and starts walking in the opposite direction. “I see him. There he is. Logan; Logan!” came Noah’s voice from behind him. He can hear the fast passing food steps coming closer. Logan crunched his fists and his cheek bones pulled tight as he felt his rage building up inside of him. “I’m not in the mood!” “Please let me explain, Logan, there is something you should know!” Logan turns around and grabs Noah by his thick green Monte Carlo Jacket and pins him up against a tree, lifting him up into the air. “I said, I’m not in the mood for back stabbers like you, nothing you say or do will make a difference!” “Let me at least give you a car or something to drive, till your truck is ready!” “I don’t want your charity, now get lost!” Logan throws him to sidewalk that makes him tumble. Diane watched the whole spectacle and so did some of their neighbors. His neighbors have come to know that Logan is a troublesome young man. The slamming of doors and things braking in the house next door was not an uncomming thing for them to experience. Everyone was just always concerned about Diane's well being and everyone always made sure to keep a close eye on them. They thought he had finally lost it one day when the sheriff's SUV came to pick him up. If something happens in a small town, it does not take long for everyone to know and that instance was no different. A boy, none other than the sheriff's own son, made fun of him for being abandoned as a child and being adopted. Logan could not take the rejection of his peers any more and he snapped. Throwing the sheriff's boy to the ground and hitting him repeatedly. The boy ended up in the hospital with a broken nose and jaw. Luckily for Logan, he was still under age and the court ruled that he should attend anger management classes and do community work a couple of hours a week. Diane just stood there on the porge her hand covering her mouth as she watched the spectacle. Fear crept up inside of her, not fear for her safety but fear that Logan might lose himself again. Its times like these that she misses her husband, the one person that could work with Logan and help him manage his anger. Was the promise she made, really worth all the worries and sorrow that it brought?
