Chapter 2 - Dominic’s POV
I watched from my room on the third floor as Alena, my mate, trained. I hated the fact that my mate was from the Beta rank but I had to admit that she was strong. As well as beautiful, with long white-blonde hair and gold eyes. She was the image of perfection, she would make any male happy. I didn’t want her to accept me as her mate but I heard from my father that Lucas had said that Alena was never going to reject her mate. My family had no idea that she was my mate or the future luna, but could I bring myself to reject her. I know how bad it would hurt the both of us and with how rare second chance mates were, I honestly didn’t know if I could bring myself to do it. I guess time would only tell how things would play out. I glanced at the forest, knowing that I should go to my patrol shift, but I couldn’t bring myself to move from my place. I look back to where my mate is sparring. Of course the 5 foot 7 inch ball of fire was fully in control of the fight. My mate was something that no one would have foreseen. She was a white wolf and very strong for being born into the beta family. I sometimes wonder if she would have been an Alpha instead. I sigh and turn from my spot, hoping that Alena hadn’t noticed me. Over the last few weeks, it has become harder to keep my eyes off of her. Sometimes, she would growl at me because I wouldn't stop staring but other times, it seemed like she wanted to get closer to me. Only a few more days, three to be exact, until my mate came of age and could finally realize why I had been so focused on her.
I head down to the front of the pack house and shift into my large silver wolf. This is something my parents didn’t understand, as both of their wolves were black. Every wolf born into the Black family had black wolves, but their mates were any color. My wolf, Storm, is the first not to be black. I shake myself to release some of the built up tension and take off towards where I was to be placed for the day. I had taken on the patrol shift because I needed to be away from the pack house when Alena was around.
I went east and met up with Victor, the pack's head warrior. He told me through mind link that there were a few rogues that had come near the pack but had yet to cross the line. I wondered what it was about and told him to inform my father. I left Victor and began my walk along the border and let my wolf take over for a little while. I knew Storm was ready to claim his mate but he also couldn’t bring himself to do it while she was still fifteen.
After about an hour of patrolling, I smelled the scent of rogues. I gave a growl and began to track it. I came upon the rogue pinning a young pack female down. She was on the verge of uncoisoness. I gave a call out to the pack warriors and tackled the rogue. As I waited for the pack warriors, I fought off the rogue. I couldn’t stop to check the female, as the rogue was strong. After what felt like hours, but was only like five minutes, I was able to bring the rogue down. I didn’t kill him but I wounded him enough that he couldn’t run. I stopped and looked around. I saw Victor near the female and knew she would be ok. The other warriors arrived and a few of them took the rogue, who had now shifted back to human form. They picked him up and took him away to the cells.
