Kazuna's Fated Death

1124 Words
It was a Monday, and Kazuna was sitting in class. His eyes were closed, as usual, so Ms. Saugoma decided to throw another rock at him. But, to her surprise, the rock actually hits him. Kazuna opens his eyes and looks at his teacher. "I really don't think a teacher should throw rocks at their students," Kazuna states. "Well, you should be paying attention," Ms. Saugoma responds. "I was. I just thought that if you actually hit me that you would stop throwing them at me," He replies. "Right," Ms. Saugoma says, more in a questioning tone than anything else. Later at training, Kazuna was sparring with Kagura. Things seemed normal, but Kagura could tell that something wasn't right. His movements were sluggish, at least for him, and he seemed to be out of breath even though they hadn't been sparring for very long. Once they were done with training for the day, Kazuna was struggling to catch his breath.  She watched Ria bring him water and help him drink it. She knew that Ria was attached to Kazuna, but she was never this attached to him. Something must have happened while they were gone, and she wasn't going to let him hide it. Later, once class had ended, she decided to question him about the condition he was in. "Kazuna, are you alright?" She asks. "Never better," He replies. But it was tough to believe him when he was struggling to catch his breath and drenched in sweat after a routine training session. "Come on Kazuna, do you think that you can trick me when you're in that condition?" She asks. The two stare at each other for a moment before Kazuna breaks. "Fine, there is something." He says. At this point, Ria had come over to help Kazuna, but he held his hand up to stop her. "Since there doesn't seem to be any point in convincing you otherwise, I might as well tell you." He says. "Are you sure Kachi?" Ria asks. "I am. I'll tell you once we split off from Matt on the way home." He says. Kagura eagerly awaited the time when Matt split of from them on the way home. As Matt was about to split off he waved goodbye and was thrown aback by how ready Kagura appeared to be rid of him. He solemnly waved and headed home with his head down. "Sorry Matt, I'll be sure to apologize at some point," Kagura says to herself. Once he was gone she glares at Kazuna, ready for his story. "Don't worry I"m not going to try and snake my way out of this." He assures her. "So?" She presses. "Well, during the week that I was gone, I returned to my clan's mansion in order to tighten the sela on the king of the dragons." He says. "HUH?!" Kagura exclaims. "Try and keep it down," Ria growls. Kagura covers her mouth as she looks around before speaking again. "You did what?" She whispers.  "I tightened the seal on the king of the dragons." He reiterates. "Does that mean that he's going to break free soon?" Kagura asks. "Yes," Kazuna replies. "But how can you be sure I mean, tightening the seal seems like something that should be done every couple of years." Kagura points out. "It is something that is done every few years, but that's not what convinced me that he will awaken soon." He replies. "Then what did convince you?" She asks. "He's been communicating with me in a sense, and he's done it a couple of times now." He answers. "Wait, you didn't tell me about this," Ria says with a hurt expression. "I didn't want to worry you, plus Kan, the original wielder of these swords, assured me that he would not invade my dreams any longer." He says. "Still, I've known you longer than anyone and know more about this than anyone. You can tell me these things." She says. "You're right, I"m sorry." He says while lowering his head. "as long as you promise to tell me things like that from now on." Ria pouts. "I promise," Kazuna replies. "But, in any case, he shouldn't break the seal for another couple of years, so it's not something we'll have to worry about in the immediate future." He assures her. "Are you sure you should be that relaxed?" Kirin asks as he appears in his shirt. "Should you really be out in the open like this?" Kazuna ask. "It'll be fine, they'll just think that he's a weirdo that carries a stuffed dragon in his shirt," Kirin says. "Thanks," Kazuna grumbles. "What do you mean?" Kagura asks. "Well, he is supposed to face death in his battle the king of dragons," Kirin notes. Kazuna glares at him and Kirin takes the hint and quickly returns to his sword. Kazuna looks between Ria and Kagura and sighs. "You just had to open your mouth," Kazuna mutters. "Kachi, what does he mean?" Ria asks. "There is a prophecy and there is a part of it that states that I will face death in my battle against the kind of the dragons." He answers. "You never told me about this!" Ria says angrily. "My grandfather told me that it would probably be better not to tell you since it would only cause you to worry needlessly." He says. "Kachi, I promised to be by your side for as long as I lived. Just because this would worry me doesn't mean that I shouldn't know about it." Ria retorts. "Even so, if I am to die in my final battle, then there is nothing that I can do about it," Kazuna replies. "Whether your prophecy says you'll die or not is one thing, but relegating it to something that you can't do anything about is something completely different. It just says that you'll face death not meet it." Kagura points out. "I don't often agree with her, but I do now," Ria says. "The girls are right. There is no guarantee that you will die." Bahamut says as he appears where Kirin was. "So you think that there is a chance that I could survive?" Kazuna asks. "Yes. We may not have the army of dragons we did in the past, the king is also weaker than he used to be." Bahamut points out. Kazuna looks at Bahamut and then Ria and Kagura and smile a little. "Thank you." He says too quietly for anyone to hear. "Well, if I"m not going to die then I'll have to take training more seriously from now on." He says. Kagura and Ria nod as they continue home, a little closer to each other than they were yesterday.
